Nah fuck em, if you were travelling through the world blind without using guides you were exploring. It was the most fun part of WoW for me, just exploring the world
RU-vid recommended this to me and I thought it was someone using a copy of the old 1.0 files to explore Mor Dhona as it used to be back then, didn't expect it to be a video from 13 years ago of someone actually playing through 1.0 at the time when it was out. I didn't even realize it until I saw another comment saying how weird it was to see an MMO in HD, which seemed weird to me until I saw the date lol.
I guess because you necrobumped this video I got recommended too. I wonder what FFXIV would have been like today if it survived it's initial launch. The game has a whole different feel and atmosphere than ARR.
@@wretchedabyss1394 FFXIV is still plagued to this day by a lot of the tech issues the game has had since its relaunch as a result of the rushed development, so it's safe to say a lot of the issues with 1.X would still be around and the game would be largely unplayable
@@damir_van_kalazI played 1.0 at launch and kinda still play ARR now, I also played FFXI for... a long time. 1.0 was not XI-2, I wish it was, but it was not-- it's probably further away from XI than ARR is. It was just bad. Gameplay elements like punishing you for playing too much, but also punishing you if you didn't play too much, so the "protective" measures just ended up adding to the grind. Engine was horrible, game performed terribly. There's a reason why it almost took SE down with it. If not for Yoshi, it probably would have.
Yep I'm here. I just started playing in July 2022 so it's really cool to see these old videos! They're like a time capsule of a bygone era that I'll never know
i've only just begun my ff14 journey in A Real Reborn. I've been obsessed with reading about the events and lore from 1.0. Is this location something we can visit in the new ff14? I'd love to see it
Oh! Very interesting! I hadn't realized that they are in a different area of Mor Dhona here in the video. Nevertheless, this was really neat to see. @@Omio9999
Guys take note of the blue Onion Knight helm. That is unobtainable nowadays. Pretty cool to see this part of FFXIV history Edit: Was running Eden last night and I saw a Lalafell that had a blue Onion Knight glam with the helmet. So I can confirm if you had it in 1.0, you still have it
I snagged a copy of 1.0 last month to try out the Project Meteor servers, and I got extremely lucky the code inside was unused. Good thing the codes for it don't expire!
At the time of Heavensward (2015), it was possible to use the code to obtain the helmet . I have this item in my character and I never played the 1.0 version. I got the collector edition box as a gift from a friend and the code did work, at the time.
seeing mor dhona without crystals everywhere feels so strange. wasn't expecting to see the gloom weather either, its one of my favourite weather's in the game as it is now
1.0 veteran here, Love seeing the old videos of the game brings back nostalgia of the excitement exploring and interacting with what was a new and uncharted world.. If could only bottle these memories and relive them, what a time to be an FF player!
I REALLY love that movement when they stop running or walking. So much more weight to it, ff14 back then, even for all its flaws, still had some nice things about it
@@velvetbutterfly they removed a lot animations/pixels to reduce stress on computers back then but with modern computers I feel like a lot of these can return. Graphic-wise FFXIV 1.0 was way ahead of its time, to the point of fault.
@@silkytv I didn't think an animation could make that big of a difference but I guess in an MMO where you could easily have 40 people in one area all moving it adds up
This is the one major thing from 1.0 that I miss quite a bit (that and Ul'dah's old music. I still have it stuck in my head from time to time) lol. When you ran with a full set of armor, you could hear, feel, and see the weight - I really dislike the floaty feather-weight movement in current FFXIV. The other thing is the clutter of the UI on the screen, which is fixable to an extent. You can make a macro key with 1 press that will hide your entire UI, then make another key to toggle it back, on the fly. It really hits different when running through the different areas in 2.0 on your mount, with 0 clutter on the screen. If you learn all your hotkeys, you can actually fight in combat with your hotbars invisible too, its pretty cool.
Interestingly enough, in ARR and onward we never get to visit the south shore of Silvertear Lake and don't get to see what that side of Mor Dhona looks like now.
I really wish I could've gotten to see 1.0, even as scuffed as it was mechanically every video it looks amazing graphically. Seeing these videos is a glimpse into Eorzea's history that we can unfortunately never revisit in modern version.
Because it had a way better graphic than even the current 2023 version of ffxiv has. It was a big reason for its downfall, you needed one of the best gaming pcs at the time to play it with mediocre fps. a flower pot had enough polygon to crash your pc and there was a lot of clutter and details in the citys.
While true, that was also 10 years ago now. Just thinking about it from a games preservation and a player who didn't give the game a chance until shadowbringers POV is all.@@xxxCyr0x
@@armandozertuche4054 it is primarily going to be better lighting, like there will be more detail, but 1.0 had such a high poly count on everything compaired to arr and onwards there is just no comparison, unfortunately 1.0 really fell short on the overworld textures, it was very obviously tiled just about everywhere, and also everything was very laggy. It had far too much going on and needed a lot of potimization which they started to do work on, it got better before they decided to scrap it. I really miss some of the old models and honestly i kinda liked some of the old ui differences, but overall every change has been for the better.
It was a really fun time, things could actually murder you out in the wild if you weren't careful and party play was required for most things. It was massively flawed though at the same time as you say. Not sure if you know but it is possible to play it now, ofc the world is mostly barren but you can play it on private servers to see how it feels. ^^
Still in the game, though only in PotD on various floors (each set of 10 PotD floors plays different themes for floor X1-3, 4-6, and 7-9 with 10 playing the boss music. A lot of 1.0 music has shown up in ARR+ that way. Some has also appeared in some other content, like BLU Carnival.
@@Loved_ God back then it was like stunning 4K graphics in the eyes of so many people. Same with RIFT & Tera, I remember playing them when they first came out and just being blown away at how incredible the games looked. It's crazy to go back and see how they look now, obviously it looks dated but it's just amazing to see how far we've come in such a short amount of time.
The light of the Algorithm has blessed you, Kaeliel Cereziana. Imagine if you could tell your past self that was a dungeon we'd be visiting in 2015. And I hope you still enjoy the game today. I'm about to look at your channel and see.
I’ve got the collector’s edition of FFXIV 1.0 sitting in my closet still, but never knew this game even had open areas back then because the black shroud was like a hallway sim. I’m glad they changed the game, been playing it since ARR beta, but I’d love for more areas that remind me of FFXI.
There’s something to be said about the movement in this game. The characters feel like they have weight to them which is actually very cool. But it would be terrible in a raid I feel like haha.
@@RitzyBusiness unfortunately thats the mainstream perspective, people just want to jump around on colored squares and pizza slices on the ground rather than actually being challenged. modern ff fans just want a social experience, not a real game.
Something about the athetics of 1.0 just vibes with me so much. Wish 14 had this sort of feel. It's graphically better, but something is off that doesn't have this. Reminds me of Dragons Dogma.
By 1.23 this was a legit good game. I stand by my questionable opinions. But the player base was so small they had to do something drastic like 2.0. I do miss me some 1.0 tho
Problem is, they had a bit of start lag, with the character transitioning into the movement animation, that's what makes them look so fluid and good The issue with that though, is it would make dodging AoEs and moving to mechanics very unreliable, and with the much faster paced ARR onwards gameplay with it's reliance on dodging and positioning, it's just not feasible to have that lag every time you need to move 1.0 meanwhile, was a game you rarely had to move during battle in
@@AutumnCrusader They could have worked around it in a better way to be honest, instead of removing it altogether. They even removed the little animation the character does when it stops moving, how was that detrimental for dodging? GW2 also have that starting lag on the movement and It works perfectly and the game is way more fast-paced.
@@AutumnCrusaderthey already change animations between weapon Drawn/Sheathed. they could have kept this animation for exploring without causing any ill effect in raids
wow. I really wish i'd played 1.0, but i was only 11 years old and had no clue about games like this. I know 1.0 was bad, but knowing now that it'd improve so much; id still play it
FFXIV in its current iteration is my favourite game ever, that being said is it weird that I miss 1.0 a bit? Like I miss how freaking huge the maps were (tho I wish they weren't copy/pasted segments). Its hard to explain, but it gave the world a sense of grandeur that I feel is a bit lost in the game now, every zones feels the same, you go there a few times for the story and then potentially never again. I also miss the feeling the game gave me while in character creation, again I don't know quite how to express this, but the menus, the fact that not everything was clearly explained, it gave a sense of mystery, like the game was a bit impenatrable and I had to actively try to understand it. I obsviously wouldn't want to go back to 1.0 but I wish the game had retained some of those things. Heck I miss 2.0 a lot too. I loved the difficulty of regular dungeons, Wanderer's Palace/Amdapor Keep in their original designs, it made dungeon feels dangerous, instead of the them park double pull twice then boss, rinse/repeat 3 times and dungeon done AoE spam that it is now. Sure its more convenient as you can just log on for an hour, turn your brain off, run your roulettes, but it removed something from the game that we unfortunately don't really have anymore.
That last part is one of the biggest factors that makes it hard to want to go back/stay playing the game at times. I feel like it's also lead to way less communication between your party in dungeons as well. Even if someone is completely new to it and doesn't know the mechanics, oh well too bad I need to get outta here as fast as possible to repeat it right after. I've seen the same behavior in trials when there are new people as well, so when they eventually die to something they just stuck in a rez loop the whole fight.
Something about that slight stutter just takes me back. Is there a way to make modern FFXIV do that? Like I don't want action lag but I want that slight stutter
@Tavanasmuse It was like that for me when I went through Coerthas. I'm going to travel back there next during the day and record a video clip of the castle there.
The maps in 1.0 weren't...great....but I do appreciate the old Mor Dhona letting you go around Silvertear Lake in it's entirety. For having such a notable part of the story in 2.0 it's kind of hard to get a good look at the Keeper of the Lake in game nowadays
When I played FFIV in its beginnings, it was not possible to walk through an open world like this. I saw a riverbank an wanted to run down to sit there - impossible, an invisible wall hindered me. So I quitted the game. Interesting that they came back to open world later.
I do not miss how confusing the maps were in 1.0 and the horrendous lag but maybe that was just my laptop at the time not really being able to handle the game after the early 2 weeks release was done. Otherwise 1.0 was quite beautiful.
for me its more of a nostalgia thing. Every MMO i've played until this point has had the nametag above their head, so seeing the nametag above their head makes me happy
It was very difficult to get there. I should have recorded how I actually got to that point since the mobs were ?? level at the time and instakilled you if you aggro.
Visually impressive at what an MMO *COULD* look like, but unfortunately, the FPS slowdowns are horrendous even for it's time. I can see why people didn't like it as much (even tho the visuals are absurdly better than ARR).
