Naachtun is the last city of the Maya golden age. We know little about it and archaeologists have started excavation just a few years ago. Isolated in the middle of the tropical forest of Guatemala, the researchers are trying to understand how it can have survived for almost 200 years after the collapse of the Mayan civilization in surrounding cities, and in doing so, to shed new light on the history of this people. Using ambitious resources, including 4K HD cameras, drones, and cutting-edge graphics, the result is an exciting adventure combined with an in-depth scientific study. This documentary promises the account of an epic saga.

Strongly recommend you watch this documentary. Thankyou so much for uploading this fabulous documentary. One of the best I've seen on Mayan culture. As I was watching I was asking questions all of which were answered. I shall watch this again and probably again to learn more.

Just don't think there are no more Mayans. I know a Mayan who speaks around 6 languages. Je is around 30 years old now. They were made to learn Spanish as children.

@jordanburnette8070 I don't remember the time stamp but ask your partner to listen to the video underneath the talking. They do it a lot in media. Most of the time, it's due to country specific dialects. For example, a person from Spain shouldn't translate Spanish from the Dominican Republic. The idioms aren't the same. For example, in the Dominican Republic, a male can tell his friend "tu esta guapo." That means, "You are angry." In Spain, it means "you are handsome." The Spanish speaker would think the men are gay. 😊 In this video, maybe they used Google Translate. ???

I thought the real name for Teotihuacán was unknown. What was it referred to on the stone? misinterpretation? It was not known in 2016, release date on this documentary. Still enjoyed it.

10:15 15 million days or 15,000 days? I can't hear if the guy said 15 mil or 15 millones. Now that I think about it, it was a mistranslation. 15 mil is 15,000 days or around 41 years. 15 million days hasn't happened yet. 😊

These cities were all connected thrived together.. 20 million strong... their cities are layer out to the star constellation s... prove there built with a purpose and one designer over ruling them all... .. only at then end was there conflict and in there ball games the winner was sacrifice not the looser.... sacrifice was a great honor... not torture...

I think there’s insane amount of speculation always with archaeologists.. everything from dating to putting spiritual beliefs Is so far off in my opinion it seems ignorant to say things like you know nothing hem for a fact from that far back. Even dating is not exact science

Carbon Dating organic residues is an exact science and we can pinpoint exactly when those buildings were inhabited. Stone erosion on the buildings also help to establish a chronology. Also, thankfully to the Mayans themselves, they were obsessed with marking time and their complex calendar systems. We can translate those calendars just like we can translate their script, and they always point out the exact date when something important happened, such as the crowning or death of a king. And all of that (carbon dating + erosion + calendars) show that the major mayan cities were inhabited between 200 BC and 900 AD. So no, it's not pure speculation. There's a lot of real science involved.

May be. Because they find huge structures who are partly destroyed, they need architects to read the remains and make reconstructions.

@@johannesnicolaas architects design new buildings. Archaeologists study ruins. Unless there’s something specific he was referring to, architects do not frequently work on archaeological sites.
