Thank you - it means a lot to hear! The T-Shirt is my own design too! There's a few items with the design available here: www.redbubble.com/people/deejayone/works/38187788-sheffield :)
Welcome to latest The Sheffield Guide video! Frankly, this is unmissable… Did you know that when you’re stood on the platforms at Sheffield Train Station there is a river running right below you? We go into the culverts of the Porter Brook and river Sheaf and head underneath the train station! From there we follow those culverts under Ponds Forge and beyond to the infamous Megatron storm drain. It was all made possible by the amazing people at the Sheaf and Porter Rivers Trust, who were excellent guides, giving us a remarkable amount of information and history - and a glimpse into future plans for bringing the Sheaf and Porter back into Sheffield. Oh, and there is a scary moment where I genuinely thought I was going to die. 😮
Thank you for watching! Yes, the stooping part really wasn't for me... but plenty of people made it through so maybe it was just me! 😂 It was all worth it for the remarkable tour underneath the city though. 👍
Great video we really enjoyed it. Amazing secrets of Sheffield too. All that effort to get perfect brickwork no one would see. Let me know where you got your bracelet from too
Thank you! The brickwork is really intricate and changes throughout depending on when each part was built, and whose responsibility it was (Midland Railway Company, British Rail, City Council, Highways Agency, etc). Nicely noticed on the bracelet too! It is a Sheffield brand, family-run, based at Portland Works (the birthplace of stainless steel manufacturing!) - and they do some awesome jewellery: www.baileyofsheffield.com
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! More to come once things have settled down... in the meantime there's always plenty over at our website: www.sheffieldguide.blog
The river being directly under the train station is probably why it flooded in 1991. It looked more line a canal than a railway. See photos... www.hpacde.org.uk/picturesheffield/jpgh_sheffield/t03664.jpg www.hpacde.org.uk/picturesheffield/jpgh_sheffield/t03665.jpg
Great pictures! If you walk up Platform 5A, by the old Station Master's office is a small log with a plaque on it regarding the floods in December 1991. I did get it on film, but it didn't really fit into this video.
