YOU WILL GET THE TRANSCRIPTION AND THE TRANSLATION IN ENGLISH.
The audio is not the best because I didn't use a microphone, so you're gonna need them. I also kept switching between Ham's phone and mine which explains why the audio has differing quality. LAST TIME I'M DOING THAT. Maybe. Until I get desperate.
Hamizan and I explored Tamarind Square one hot, sunny day in Cyberjaya and enjoyed the beautiful scenery tremendously. The place was quite empty, probably due to Covid. But the plants and trees just look absolutely amazing!
I highly recommend it just for the plants and trees and leafy greens! And BookXcess of course, even though it's incredibly hot inside. Wear nice clothes and don't forget your camera. And a fan. Definitely a fan. Everyone was staring at my RM5 fan jealously. If you wanna make some quick buck, go peddle fans in Tamarind Square. No one sells any there.

Dear Lisse, I absolutely love your channel and listening to you speaking Malay. My first encounter with my favourite SE Asian country was in 1979 when J made. Trip to KL with my Mum.. 3 years later I won first prize at a monthly party for ‚Airliners‘ in Frankfurt, Germany. Their was the usual raffle and 1st prize was a flight on MAS (now Air Malaysia) to KL and Penang (Pulau Pinang) which included a weeks stay at the beautiful Golden Sands Hotel at Batu Ferringhi. I couldn’t believe my good fortune! So in 1982 I went on that trip and fell in love too while there. The rest is another story.. and since then I visited many times and always try to brush up my spoken Malay with the aid of a little book I picked up in KL called ‚Speak Malay‘. I still have way to go though. But I get real pleasure out of learning this delightful language of my favourite country apart from my own (U.K.) . Wish you continued success with your life and endeavours, God Bless.

Shakshouka has always been popular in Malaysia? You know the region it originally comes from?
@sierralisse8897

Not sure about before, but recently I kept seeing it pop up in random cafes. I learned how to make it from a RU-vid recipe video when I was looking for a low carb recipe. Not sure about the exact origin, but in the North African/Middle Eastern region?

@@sierralisse8897, right! It has it roots in Maghreb. Later, it was brought to Israel by Moroccan Jews and peaked it's popularity there.

Hi Lisa! Your drawing is really nice!

Hello Gabrielle! Thank you for saying nice things about my drawing :D Definitely need to spend more time drawing, but there's always so many things to do. As for your question, in Malaysia it's definitely normal to be hijab-free, especially in Klang Valley and other more urban locations. Most of the time it does not bring any inconvenience as most Malay people are non-intrusive about it, unless if I'm unlucky enough to run into rude, unsavoury characters who forcefully try to push their values on everyone around them. But honestly I haven't run into those types for the longest time, like maybe years? Maybe because I live in KL and these people are not so outspoken in urban areas. But there is definitely an increasing trend of people donning the hijab. The country has many issues that are difficult to solve, so one of the favourite issues people love to safely tackle is the matter of hijab since it's incredibly populist and panders to a majority of voters - Malay people. Problem is it doesn't solve actual problems like food insecurity, increasingly squeezed middle class, the increasing people below the poverty line, stunting from malnutrition, low quality of education, and having absolutely no solid plans for the future of the country. Yeah, nobody wants to solve those glaring big problems, so they focus on how women should dress. Lol, sorry for the rant. The hijab has become a very political thing in Malaysia.

Your face when you try your husband's coffee is so cute haha :) Also your watercolor/drawing is amazing! I think you really captured the graceful drape of the leaves. I appreciate your honest review of the Botanist. It's helpful to know what you should really expect when going to a place, even if it's just to enjoy the ambiance. Oh! Book Xcess! They have one of those at Gurney Paragon in Penang! I loved that shop, it's got such cool atmosphere! I didn't realize it was a chain bookstore. Thanks for sharing this lovely day with us! I've never visited KL but these kinds of videos make me want to visit next time I'm traveling.

I'm the greedy one in the relationship :D I'm always trying his stuff even if I might not like them. He likes his coffee bitter but I feel like if I keep trying, then maybe one day I might like it a little more. And thank you! I miss drawing very much. Would love to do it more! And I'm happy you like the review. I prefer to give a proper review so people can decide if it's worth it or not. I've been disappointed by glowing reviews only to discover that something is just subpar. Before Covid, this particular BookXcess is supposedly open 24/7 so you can literally stroll there at 3am. But post-Covid I'm not too sure how their operating hours are like. When I recorded this video, it was until 10pm only. Thank you for watching and sorry the caption wasn't ready earlier. It's ready now so you can turn it on and catch what we were saying. It's really noisy because I didn't bring my microphone :

Just a recommendation from someone who lives in cyberjaya (and a regular at tamarind square), if you're thinking of going to botanist/tamarind square again, their lamb sandwich and beef sandwich is pretty good (do note that the serving size is quite filling for 1 person) - interesting combo of ingredients. Other than Botanist, After Seven Lounge (balcony seating, during sunset!), Pastribella, Kojo, Alcea (across Botanist), Burger & Taco are my favourite to go.

Wow, thank you for the recommendations! I will definitely go again and try the sandwich now that you mentioned them :D And that's a lot of places. I'll put them all in my list!

I can totally relate with going into a bookstore without the intent to buy books, but inadvertently coming out with books regardless... Great video! I'm looking forward to visiting Tamarind Square when I go back to Malaysia soon!
