Tokpe Gola
A handful of wooden gables remark a solitary place amidst the mountains on the northern side of Taplejung. In such a cold place, the economy relies on yaks, herbal plants like Yarchagumba and sometimes tourism as well. Beautiful rhododendrons with the nearby Sodu Lake and a milky pearl river, Mikkwakhola flowing alongside paints our eyes and enriches our soul. According to the Nepali dictionary, gola means ‘a place to do business in the lap of a mountain’. Tokpe Gola is a historic port near the border with Tibet. The ‘Tokpegola’ (locally known as Dhokpya), a listed group in the marginalized group, resides here. The caste is named after the place.
