"In recent weeks, House Ethics Committee investigators have conducted a string of interviews behind closed doors with numerous women who were witnesses in the yearslong Justice Department sex trafficking investigation into Rep. Matt Gaetz, multiple sources familiar with the committee's work tell ABC News.
Investigators have interviewed at least half a dozen women who allegedly attended parties where the Florida congressman was also present and who were paid by Joel Greenberg, Gaetz's one-time close friend. Greenberg was sentenced in 2022 to 11 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges including sex trafficking a minor and introducing the minor to other "adult men," sources tell ABC News."

I do think the illicit drug user thing does matter, because Gaetz is the type of person who believes drugs SHOULD be illegal and that people SHOULD go to prison for them. Thus he's a hypocrite who believes in laws for thee but not for me. He should ABSOLUTELY face any consequences, just as any regular person, for illicit drug use. Perhaps he should have been on our side when it comes to decriminalizing drugs.

In general i don't care about drugs and sex with adults. However, the fact that he is a republican and votes for policies that punnish that behavior. The fact he is one of the big border wall guys, "fighting" against human trafficking and drugs bothers me. He is part of the problem. The hypocrisy is sickening. He should be punnished for any law he has broken.

the drugs don't really bother me, although it's pretty hypocritical for mr. wholesome. but the commercial sex with underage girls should not be sidestepped. of course some will shout that it's political. if it were their daughters going through this, maybe then they'd understand. also, if this case was about a democratic politician, I'd say the exact same thing. so it's not political to me, it's wanting a high moral standard from leadership. that's all. you should try it.

If a regular person did illegal drugs, or solicit in prostitution they would go to jail. He should also be prosecuted, as it is illegal. Should we decriminalize these things, yes, but it's illegal now. He helps keep these laws in place, so that's on him.

This matter should be viewed thru the lens of *ethics* and not the law. There was no mention in this piece about what, if any, ethical rules are placed for the person serving in congress. During my decades of employment there was always one rule about bringing disrepute on the employing company.

I absolutely care if a sitting elected official is using illicit (illegal) drugs! You can't even keep menial jobs if you're caught using something like weed! These people are supposed to abide by our laws, above all else! If he pays for sex, and it's NOT illegal in the state he does it, then I could care less. If he's breaking the law he should LOSE his elected position.

If there was a minor that he paid to have sex with, no question he deserves to be in prison. But if he paid for sex with consenting adults, it depends on his public position on sex work in general. If he is always decrying sex workers and saying all people having sex are going to hell, then yeah, throw the book at the hypocrite. But if he is out advocating for decriminalization, and there were no minors involved, let him go.

I don't support a lot of these laws, especially to do with drug use, but the only way they're going to be repealed is if they affect lawmakers in the same way that they affect ordinary citizens. Let them pay the same price as the rest of us.

Do I care if people use drugs? In general, not really. Should Gaetz be prosecuted for the drug use, probably. But that is to keep him consistent. He's advocated for drug testing requirements to receive welfare, etc.

"School & tuition" as a label for sex worker is VERY COMMON!!! And says NOTHING about the age of the sex workers, BUT many sex workers are between the ages of 19-30. If a woman is over the age of 18, they have every right to consensually participant in sex work and many do. If people don't like this maybe we should make college more affordable. I think we should care about the illegal drugs, because if it something we everyday people can be arrested for, then there shouldn't be a double standard for politicians.

While I don't care about Matt Gaetz paying an adult for sex or using illegal drugs in a way that does not harm anyone else, because it is a crime and because Matt Gaetz actively pushing criminalizing paying adults for sex and putting people in prison for using illegal drugs, then he should be held to the same legal standards that he champions.

My issue with illicit drugs is that there's a supposed War on Drugs that has cost billions and killed thousands. If there was no market for drugs, there'd be no need for a war on drugs. If people want to use drugs, they should be legalised and sold with an appropriate health warning and age-rating, like any other product that collects tax.

Politicians should be required to take drug tests regularly but the results are automatically made public and doesn't automatically equal removal. The bottom line is that American Citizens should KNOW who is representing them, through and through.
