Dinner en blanc is a fine example of people following a trend for the sake of social media. If I’m going to spend a few hundred, someone is bringing me my food & drinks in a nice vibe atmosphere. This is too much work.

With the ability to take photos in a half a hot air balloon with circus acts and human statues as entertainment until singers came and saved the night, then had to pack up your stuff and take it all back home? Listening, 8 years ago, I wanted to go to this event for the exciting experience they portrayed on social media. Once I read the rules on how to partake in the event it was a big HELL NO for me. The idea I had to pay to bring everything including the food, I was like, what kinda ghetto shit is this? It’s not like you’re paying for a nice location or view. It’s a waste of money, energy, and time. However, you’re so right about everyone’s idea of fun and how it varies.

Each city organizes its own and has a group of volunteer organizers. I went to the one in Dallas a few years ago and you either rode the bus or used your own transportation but there was no walking😂. It was at Southfork Ranch (where they filmed the TV show Dallas). We brought our own food, like a picnic. If we had ordered catering, each person could select their own entree. Everyone did not have to eat the same thing. Their organizers did them dirty. I loved the one I went to.
It's not the "have fun" part. It's that were keep letting "Black business" scam and guilt is into accepting bad or inferior service under the guise of of "coming together". Everyone else has just as much fun and they're going fine.

Especially in this Texas heat; because I am quick to jump back in my car and head back to my home where I’m comfortable and chilling in my 60 degree apartment. I’m not paying no damn $61 for walking or anything for a trash event. Even if it’s free, I’m not going to any overhyped trash event. That’s why I love driving my car to places, because if the event sucks, I can just dip out and not have to worry about waiting until someone is ready. If u look at the ‘21 ‘22 promo for this it looks awesome they were at a college campus with marching band and at some huge park with way more people.. but $61 to walk there, no real food options for you or you guests, and u find out the location the day of, are super red flags 🚩 then u find out the cross street intersection is the picnic location 🤦🏽♀️
I've never heard of a Dinner en blanc. But I don't see the point of a place where you have to bring your own food and tables just to listen to music and a few performances. I feel it's the exclusivity of paying for an event and wearing all white that makes people think it is better than what it really is. It's almost as if people can't admit that it wasn't worth it after they spent all that time getting ready and paying for it.

Getting angry watching this... this is a completely messed up ripoff. And them rudely turning your group away for wearing shorts when plenty of other people wore them is infuriating. I think that's a very generous 2. I'm glad some people still managed to enjoy themselves but that's more of a credit to them for having a good spirit and optimistic attitude than anything the organizers did. Also, thank you for shouting out the musicians and performers at the event, it's not their fault that the people running the show suck.

The “Support black businesses” mantra done got to these restaurants and events places heads. Some black businesses don’t need to be supported. I’ve gone to too many places were the costumer service is terrible, the prices are inconsistent or scammy, the quality is inconsistent. We don’t have to support black people just because they’re black.

From you mentioned the cost, I would have dresses up in white and sat in my back yard eating leftovers and a glass of wine rather than giving them my money. All it was was a glorified street party in a dicey area. Yes, a scam!
So years ago my ex and her friends invited me to go to the one in NYC. When she explained to me everything that it entailed, I looked at her like she was dumb and said "You Buggin.... Hell No!!" I gave them a ride close to the event and watched them as they struggled in 90+ degree weather to drag the tables, chairs, decor, and food several nyc blocks (I couldn't help because I wasn't allowed to drive closer). It's a whole scam. People try to pretend it's fun because they don't want to feel stupid about their decision to go.

They just want to be able to say “oh yes we were at such and such event.” But many won’t support events with substance, that are actually interesting and beneficial. Yeah. It’s fancy/pricey marketing to brand a name. Sometimes the quality can live up to the hype. Just depends on what’s being advertised. The getaway could be worth it for some, but subpar for others.

They just branched out to the American market over the past decade or so and started licensing out the events. That's how "we" got in on it. It's still not worth the trouble in my book.

Some years ago I planned to take my wife for her birthday here in DC and it was a little more expensive then the price you quoted. But when I looked at all of the stipulations and basically the fact that I would be providing everything for the date and all they were did was get a permit to block off a street, my own street senses went off and I was like “ Oh this is some BS!”

You should experience the one in Greenville SC. I’ve been twice. We had a blast from beginning to end. It’s a different experience than just going to the club. You can order what you want, not the same for each person or bring your own. The band was there from the beginning and when they left there was a DJ. It’s not for everybody because some people don’t think it’s worth the money to buy all the essentials that are needed and bring your own food to sit outside all dressed up but if that’s the case it’s not for you. I felt that way the first time as I was preparing to go, but once we got there, the experience was amazing. You should look it up on RU-vid in all the different cities and countries around the world and see how they celebrate. It’s amazing.

My friend was a table leader this year and asked me if i wanted to go. I said yes. When i went to the website to book my tixs i saw all of the nonsense you have to go through and decided not to go. I'm lucky...i couldve gotten finessed.
This would be much better if 1) it was one flat rate per person 2) and that rate included your food and drinks 3) if the location was known ahead of time and in an ideal place 4) pay extra to hold a table, and be told you need to decorate it too.

I think it was the organizers fault (or lack of organization bc that's not how its supposed to go) Your experience was the opposite of our experience at Diner En LeBlanc in Wilmington DE. Even though the bringing your own table and chairs was a turn off for me it was much easier than expected. Everything else was extraordinary, we were located by the lake, we only paid $8 for our bus ride to the secret location, we did very little waking, we could wear WHATEVER we wanted, we bought tons of wine and liquor, I chose to purchase me and my husband's entrees from one of the many black-owned caters available and we could order whatever we like I had the lobster and my husband had braised beef, I even purchased a charcuterie board too! We had a live band, a DJ and performers along with several various activities like 360 photo booths, various bars, the large piano you play with your feet and tons of other activities! The couple that curated everything give aways like large white bags, sparklers champagne ice buckets. etc.... We got a lot for our $50 each. I hope you choose to experience it again in a different city (come to DE) or even country? Much love and respect to you💛

They did one at Centennial Park in Atlanta. It looked like they were having fun while my party was going to The Aquarium. The music was cool and it had to be about 2000 people.

I didn't even get that far. I signed up and got the email back that I was selected. However, when I learned that I would have to walk/hike to the destination, I had to prepare and carry my own food, AND tables and chairs were not being provided, I immediately knew it was a set up.

I went once in MD. Everything he says is correct. It’s ridiculous and our experience was just as lack luster. You pay to do all the work. Not to mention at the end of the night you have to carry bags of trash from your food items. They couldn’t even take a percentage of all the money charged for trash removal. Never again.

They can have that smh. I went to see Saxophonist Jeanette Harris back in October 2022, which was as all white event. I only paid $45 for the tickets, free parking and the jazz show exceeded everyone's expectations.

That's when we got the full scope of what was needed.... Table, chairs, walking, food blah blah blah. Me n my bestie had a quick huddle and decided it wasn't worth it. Let the $120 go to waste because it just felt like more of an expensive headache than it was worth. I enjoy the Noir Picnic though. Concept is similar but you know where you're going from jump and they don't make it seem so secret society-ish. Buy a table or bring one. Dope entertainment. Wear wine colors. Food is basic af so bring ya own! Gotta drink their stuff but we buy a table that comes with a bottle. Etc. Nice lil time. 😊
I totally agree! We have one here in Michigan and the crazy thing is that they invite you, give a short time to pay and respond. And AFTER you pay they send a long ass email explaining the details. I paid $150 for 2 and never showed up. I refused to spend $500 more dollars to white tables, chairs, silverware, plates, food, drinks, tablecloth, decor and wagon. So I myself can pull this mess down the street (not knowing what street) on a hot summer day in my beautiful white linens. Crazy!!!! The biggest scam. After the party found out the people who paid for transportation were dropped off in a damn yellow school bus with no air conditioning to a high school football field in the hood😂!!

This CAN NOT be a true story.😮 Like how did anybody go for this foolishness? They charged y’all to walk to and set yup your own party in a bad area and made y’all pay to eat shit u may not have wanted? Sounds real twilight zonish. Tell me how multiple people with common sense agreed to this?
Apparently they must serve denial juice there too bc EVERYONE that attends always talks about how much fun it is but I never hear about them making plans to go again 🤣
I wish I had seen this video about a week ago before paying for the one that’s taking place in DC next month. 😩 I was invited by someone whose pictures I would see from the previous ones she’d been to in Paris and DC. How deceiving the video and pics are, they look like an amazing event…I had no clue this was all involved 🤦🏾♀️
The people making money off the event: 1. Dîner en Blanc International Inc for licensing the name to organizers in 85 countries. 2. Walmart for all those wagons 3. Amazon for all those mini tables.
I attended one time (years ago) in Brooklyn, NY. It was a "one and done" for me. First of all, waiting to get the location caused me so much anxiety cause the info came "late". Then we have to carry all our food & drink, and set up. People went ALL OUT with their table theme's and decor, it was insane. But all of this is just for social media, I swear Sir, you can do so much better if you & your friends get together in someones back yard, a park, rent a villa with a pool (now we talking 😅) and do your own thing.
