Lawyer here. First of all you should have asked them if you were being arrested. If they say no. You have no obligation to speak to them. If you were arrested then you remain silent and you say you're not talking until your lawyer gets there. You have the right to remain silent. Use it. Remember these cops are not your friends.
Concealed carry reciprocity laws vary from state to state. They went over NY specifically in the cc class I took. The airlines can only instruct you on how to travel with a gun. Airlines don’t know where you got your cc so they would not be able tell you where you’re allowed to travel too. Knowing where you can bring your guns has always been the responsibility of the gun owner. Glad you made back! Praying for you bro.

My brother was a retired NYPD Health and hospitals Captain, and also a registered gun dealer, and he was treated VERY BADLY. I hope all works out for you. Sorry this happened to you. I'm a retired Police Officer from N.Y.C. and they try to make it hard for us to carry after we retire, so I can only imagine what a regular citizen must go through. I now have a license to carry in all 50 states. Best of luck to you.
@@ginaparker211 Hi Gina the license is called H.R. 218. Check your local gun shop to see if they have classes for you in order to receive that license. There is a gun store here in Orlando that does it. Don't know if it's only for law enforcement or not. Good luck

Bro, I’m a licensed gun owner as well. The person who said, “ you didnt have to declare your firearm ” is idiot. They probably thought you was a federal/government officer/employee or police detective. #1 you can’t have any firearm that is not register to the state you are visiting. #2 get a Utah CCW License, you will be licensed to carry in 38 states.
It’s really just New York and cali where you run into these problems, with a NC ccw you can have your gun in 48 states but some got restrictions but it’s always a no no in Ny and Cali
The Florida CCW has reciprocity in most states, more than the Utah one. And yes I have mine and keep it on me bc I don’t leave home without bare minimum a knife and at max a gun. BUT I will say I’ve never flown with a weapon outside of mace because I’m scared to death of this happening to me.
It’s called reciprocity hi I am a CCW license holder in the state of Florida and I too can carry my weapon in over 30 states. Sometimes people don’t do their research when it comes to the reciprocity I understand he wasn’t told at the airport but everyone still has to do their due diligence.

Prayers bro!!! As a former NYer (born n raised in BK), them gun charges aint nothing to fck with. If I recall, minimum is 2-4 years for possession or something like that, and they like to tack on years per bullet (which is why the judge mentioned you had 18 in the clip). Took my CCW class a couple of years ago and one of the biggest things that they covered was travel. They made a special point to mention NY laws and to never fly there with a weapon. I waited a while for this video and just knew that was the reason you got booked. Good luck with your case.
Exactly. The police officer that taught my course told us you need to know the laws of different states you travel to. For example a hollow point in one state is perfectly legal while in another its a felony.

I don’t know about the gun laws in all states but I know cali and NY has some of the strictest gun laws and it’s best to buy a pocket knife of something after arriving and staying out the way. Even here in Florida I was arrested for not having my gun in the trunk and for having it under my seat without having a ccp. That’s complete bullshit honestly my boy, I’m a vet and me and my gun was legal but I was arrested and gun rights was stripped for like a year due to my gun not being in the trunk since I didn’t have my permit. It’s bs but it’s the law and it was my fault for not knowing bruh, same case for him. Gotta do your research when dealing with firearms and traveling.
The fact that there is no uniform process about this makes it not only dangerous for staff and other people flying but for those who carry. Not to mention being black in this plays such a crucial role...thank god you're as chill as you are. As soon as you said the lady said "he has a pistol" my heart instantly sank.
There actually is a uniform process. It’s on TSA’s website and EVERY airline website BEFORE you buy your ticket. There is an entire page dedicated to firearms and hazardous materials.
There is quite literally a standardized "uniform" process exists on the TSA website my guy. I fly with a gun regularly, is it annoying, yes, but is it 100% the responsibility of the gun owner to thoroughly understand all applicable laws and rules regarding flying with a gun to another state? Also yes.

Man first of all, I hope everything works out for you…but how did you NOT know that your NC concealed carry permit is no good in NY? NJ? You have to know the reciprocity laws for every state. Whew! As a Texas CCL holder & frequent traveler to NYC (via the road), I always stop by the family's house NOT in NY to drop my equipment off before I hit the Holland or Lincoln. Not trying to have those types of problems, I have a professional license to protect. SMH Glad you made it out safely.

You can’t bring a gun to New York period! Out of towners have been getting tripped up by this for years.. including celebrities.. (Plaxico Burress, Lil Wayne, etc. all having to do jail time) I’m really praying for you brother 🙏🏾 I haven’t seen someone argue successfully against these laws.
This same thing happened to me and my body guard partner at jfk . They lady checked out guns in and called the cops on us . After showing our credentials they let us go . Prayers up for you .

I used to practice in Queens. I’ve represented dozens of people with licenses from other states who get arrested and then had to fight gun possession charges for years, slogging back and forth from their home state to sit in Queens criminal court for hours. Sorry this happened to you. NYC prosecutors basically treat gun possession like a strict liability offense.

I’m sorry to hear about your situation, but I have to say that as a former CO I’ve seen this type of situation happen numerous times. The reason nobody has said anything in the past is because a lot of people probably don’t know the rules of their job. Some learn the bare minimum to maintain their job and nothing more. I worked with so many people like that in the past that the only time I’m surprised now is when a person does actually know several aspects of their job. Good luck! Google information takes 5 mins. Gotta do your own due diligence. Most 9-5 workers are incompetent and will tell you yes and ok to get you out the way. Also its not the airports duty to enforce state law. As a truck driver who travels all 48 states. Im im the most sketchy of places. I have to sleep almost anywhere i can. Still i keep my firearm at home because laws vary state to state and i dont need anymore problems on my plate. God bless brother and hope everything works out in your favor.

Unfortunately we live in a country where each state is like it’s own country. Nothing is universal except for the fact that we get taxed coming and going! Yet and still idiotic things like this happen, and we get tripped up by the same people we pay to do their job.

Moving forward when you travel, I'd call the local Police station in that city to inquire abt what steps (if there are any) that you need to take to bring in & carry your weapon while visiting. All will be well young brother. Just got my gun license about 2 months ago and when you take the concealed license class they do let you know which states that you’re permit is valid in. I’m from florida and the 2 states that I know in fact are not apart of our system are California and New York. Prayers up

I will say yes you should know your rights and the laws…. P.S. some states have county specific laws. Where a gun is legal to bring in the state but not in a certain county. BUT….. their should be a checks and balances system where they don’t allow you to travel to that place with the right documentation. They don’t let you travel international with a passport. You shouldn’t be able to travel domestically, with an illegal gun!

I’m really sorry that this happened to you. That being said, if you’re going to carry your weapon with you at all times you must learn the laws of all jurisdictions you are traveling to. I feel like it’s widely known that New York and California have some of the toughest gun laws in the country. I can’t recall the football player’s name but he was carrying a weapon in NYC and accidentally shot himself. He was prosecuted and sent to jail for 2 years. New York give zero Fs. Truly 🙏 that this works in your favor.
Plaxico Burress. He not only had an unregistered gun. But it went off inside of a club, which could have injured other people even though it discharged accidentally. I live in South Jersey, and you can’t even go to a indoor gun range without having a gun permit, which takes 6-9 months to get. The way it was explained to me is that you can’t even use the facilities weapon, because you need a weapon permit to purchase the ammunition…
I just had a flight recently and was thinking about packing mine but after doing research I still didn’t feel comfortable taking the risk so I left it for this very reason.. I’ll send a prayer your way 🙏🏾

I have a friend that carries a weapon in different states but he makes sure that his permit covers those states. All will be well and you will walk a way free and clear. You got a lawyer so that’s a major plus i don’t see you doing any jail time technically it’s not an illegal firearm and you followed the guidelines to travel with it.
