Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.

Funny thing, Admin sent the email about him telling the owner what not to do, and the owner said to do it anyway. Not Soho fault, the car was fine for over a year on a safe tune. It's the owner's fault for wanting to go beyond the tuners recommendation.

Just my two cents. I think everyone takes some blame here. They showed the runner that was used and I have to say then shits is small af. If the cylinder can’t properly and efficiently extract the exhaust it will cause high internal temps and if you run a more aggressive timing it will not help the cause which in turn showed the head gasket being the week point before real detonation happened and why the customer would even drive it after it was found out the head was lifted.

Well Soho has my 350z as we speak… Not a built motor, but installing a 72k motor/ turbo set-up (in house tuning). 20k deep. Praying that everything is 100 when it’s finished. Definitely will be doing a YT vid.

The internet loves a good drama but the blame lies with ol griffy. He obviously didn’t break it in properly, second he’s running stock exhaust headers?! Third, he pushed the envelope to chase a number and clout.

It feels like everyone was at fault but no one wants to admit fault. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but it never occurred to Soho, Admin or the owner that the stock headers were way too small for 1000+ whp. Also, it’s never a good idea to just keep throwing boost/timing when a motor is already maxing out.

Do the oem head gaskets not hold up at high boost like that? Also I remember MotoIQs VHR build used titan valves since they were 1mm larger and were sodium filled, was there any consideration for that? Sucks the installation was done so poorly rip motor

What ive gotten from this video is it was just a head gasket failure and if he didnt drive it home after it blew he would have been fine? Am I missing something? Because all the bearing damage seems so minimal that like you said couldnt have been detonation.

After watching this and Soho response. I have to side with SOHO. I dont think Admin did anything wrong either. The client wanted what he wanted. He drove a car with a damaged engine, he disregarded the number one rule. He wanted a certain number and everything else be damned. A built motor does not mean you can do whatever you want. You still have to be responsible with your stuff. Sucks for all parties involved though.

Wait so it was blowing coolant all over the engine and that was the green light for starting to turn up the boost? Why would you crank up the boost if there is such and obvious problem with the motor? Sus. Seeing the other video now, that engine what heavy cleaned before making this video, and you avoid showing all of head, the heavy pitting on the exhaust head of cylinder 5 can't be cleaned up and it makes sense that the oem head would show heat damage more than a forged and treated piston head.

You're the man, and after meeting you in person I can tell you don't dwell on drama. It's unfortunate you have to face these accusations. It sucks for you, but I feel exceptionally bad for the car owner, and I hope he returns to being tuned by you with a better-built engine.

Heard admin turns off knock sensors

As a man your reputation is important and must be protected at all cost. In the future I would keep all tuning log files. If anyone needs a detonation monitor hit me up. Where is the knock strength log from the dyno runs? Your not logging Exhaust gas temperature or back pressure two critical parameters for a highly stressed engine. Also I would like to see the dyno graphs as these will provide evidence of what is going on. If there are issues before power runs none should have not been made. Why was the go ahead given?

I hate seeing this shit go down. From the SOHO video, they said if you cram more air into the engine than the engine can push out, clearly you’re going to have issues. Moncef, did Griff tell you to go ahead and push more power despite knowing that might be a possible issue? Or am I wrong here?

Dynosty head gasket with stainless steel oringed head and CSS block or maybe LA sleeves amphibious sleeves would be the best options under 1100 horsepower. All copper head gaskets and hoops must always be retorqued.

At that high of whp anything can happen, it’s a VQ. Now I understand dude probably paid a good chunk for this engine but it ain’t a 70-80k race engine built by a reputable shop that only specializes in race engines like proline racing putting down 3500hp. Shits gonna happen, VQ’s break daily 😂. It’s not sohos fault nor admins fault, just shit happens

13 mins in, I’m just curious how do you go in and re torque the head gaskets after running it at operating temp? Do you have to disassemble and tighten the bolts back down? Interesting.

How do you retorque a gasket that would void a $24,000 warranty from pulling it apart to do what the HG manufacturer said lol do they expect you to heat cycle it and send it back for a retorque 😂😂😂

Hey, I have a car with an 8 gal tank. Do you think you can get 10 gals in it for me? That shouldn't create any issues for the tank right? It's only recommended that the tank holds 8 gallons, surely that won't matter.

The best part of this is that SOHO sells a “vq trademarked” engine package as a head lift solution but can’t follow the head gasket manufacturer’s instructions for a torque procedure. I’ve seen plenty of motors with pre-det crack a ringland before they even come close to lifting the head. Very unfortunate that soho tried to cover their ass the way they did.

retorquing VQ heads is a pretty big job on it's own. probably would have been better off with an OEM head gasket.

Damn, was gonna change my spark plugs on my g37 which is basically stock minus exhaust, and noticed my head gasket on passenger side was starting to deform/ blow out. Anyone know how hard the job is? Was probably just gonna take it to the dealership to get it fixed even though labor is hefty

I think to make it fair. Is to give the car your driving to the to high profile customer (370z) And take the 370z and rebuild the engine yourself instead of the shop. Real tuners build their own engine. Rebuild the engine for 1000 whp.

This is my biggest fear. taking it to someone who claims they know what they are doing but end up building you a half ass engine. I encourage people to learn their engine and build it as i did.

Man... lol. Just hate this kind of stuff for the car community. It should be us against takeovers, clout chasers (trend chasers) and EVs. At the end of the day most of us are pushing cars well beyond their NORMAL limit. Not saying admin is perfect but I've known about him since i was like 10. Literally he was like one of if not the only person tuning Maximas back in the day. My dads barber had a 96 turbo tuned my Moncef. Never had issues and he used to be WILDIN in the car. Things happen. Things get messy when blame gets thrown around. Its ok to make mistakes. It happens. How you respond is whats important and accountability is a lost art nowadays. It is what it is though and closure was needed bc social media made this issue bigger than it should've been as it does with any problems that can be resolved in better ways. Keep getting better! I'm just glad that in spite of the way EVs are being pushed that there's still Great Tuners and shops that do builds that are out there keeping the passion alive. Good and bad lol

I don’t think this was your fault but you can have detonation on just 1-2 cylinders. Engines often have 1 cylinder that runs hotter than others or runs leaner. These cylinders will almost always have knock before the others and often are the first to fail

Shame it had to come to this, as always there are plenty of variables. But signs of coolant issues are a tale tale sign something is up and not up to snuff. Having built plenty of motors in the past one can always tell quality and attention to detail vs carelessness and lack of planning. Esp with copper gaskets, usage of hylomar and bore roundness/bore trueness and not carefully blueprinting gaskets when boring/honing. Lot could of been resolved as no "race" engine is guaranteed, but a good builder will stand by their product and not just blame others and leave the owner stranded. Hope in the end it works out but sad as it's oh so common in motorsports in general. Great you showed with detail and in real-time video facts that cant be lied, especially to (NO) detonation marks and (NO) micro welding signs and bearing squish, premature heat and wear and deformation. Sounds truly like it was built on a Friday at 4:45pm.

Pre-ignition and detonation are completely different. 30 years of turbo engines, I've broke many ring lands early on. Some show no other sign than just a stacked ring land. An engine that builds coolants pressure cold after 30 seconds of running when the top is opened, has a leaking HG, easy check if suspected. Not pointing blame anywhere, just saying. 12:1 compression and turbo= trouble. Fuel and water aren't compressible but water injection works so....

Took my car to soho once to troubleshoot a chain rattling noise on my VHR37 they troubleshooted it by only listening to my motor and said my heads were fried, tried to charge me almost $700. I didnt believe them, I took the car home, troubleshooted it, found that one of my sprockets were lose, tightened it problem fixed. I told them I’m not paying them the $700 they said I can’t do business with them again.

If this was done before the 2000's , you would have had a lot of old guys putting their input on this video giving " Cruical " information as they have seen it all done it all. We showed our ass claiming we know everything so some lost secrets remained lost with their death. I just feel like if some shops were taught old techniques instead of just " in class" a lot of mistakes could have been avoided.

Nah, this dude definitely runs the cars too rich. I burned through 5 head gaskets and have oil on my spark plugs.. bought new everything and got a diagnostic, and they couldn't find any internal problems. The only thing that was done was a tune
