Expression Pedal for Eventide H9 

Not sure if anyone gives a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my girlfriend for the last few months xD

the SP-H9 will control one H9. If you want to control more than one H9, you can use Expressionator and a regular expression pedal such as a Mission EP-1. This will control up to three H9's but the expression function only, not the switch. We made the switch box ourselves. Any TS momentary switch will work.

The SP-H9 is intended only to be connected directly to the H9. However, you can certainly connect an expression pedal to a Boss controller and then control other devices via MIDI. The Mission EP-1 is the recommended expression pedal for connection to Boss devices such as the ES5 or ES8

+wayne white power on the H9 with the expression pedal connected with a TRS cable. Unplug the TRS cable from the H9 and then plug it in again. Is should now go from a low value of around 0 or 1 to a high value of around 99 to 100

+James Lebihan shouldn't it go from 0 meaning the effect is off to 100 meaning all the way on?

It's displaying a digital sampling of an analog voltage change, depending on exactly where the sampling falls it may sometimes show 0 or 1 at min and 99 or 100 at max. This is normal, it doesn't change the sound.

He’s probably not using trs cable

The Mission SP-H9 in this video is only intended for use with the Eventide H9 and won't work with most other effect pedals. Mission has other models of expression pedal though. We have models that work with most devices. You can find them at missionengineering.com

+wayne white Make sure you are using a good cable (try a different one to be sure). Check to make sure that your H9 has the latest firmware installed and that automatic calibration is enabled

+prettdboy No not really. A volume pedal is wired differently and normally uses a logarithmic pot. You might be able to mod some passive volume pedals, or use a special conversion cable to sort of work, but the taper will be odd. Also a volume pedal does not have an integrated switch for the H9 or an input for an auxiliary switch. I tried a couple of active volume pedals with the H9 and they don't work at all.

+prettdboy Yes. In the pedal settings in H9 Control, you can set the expression pedal to control either the input or output volume. Controlling input volume will keep the repeats or tails. Volume out will act more like a master volume control.

I can't remember exactly what settings I used here, but it sounds like it was most likely the PitchFlex algorithm.

Thank you. Did the delay I'm hearing on that example come from the Pitchflex algorithm or were you using an separate delay unit?

This may have been from the amp. I was using a Line 6 Helix Rack if I recall correctly, and probably had some reverb or small amount of delay on it.

The switch in the video we made ourselves, but most 1/4" TS momentary switches such as the Boss FS5U should work.

There was some modulation and delay on the presets I was using for the video and the pedal was changing multiple parameters at a time. There is no issue with the tracking and plain pitch effects sound fine on the H9

You're right anyway. I've got the h9 and the whammy 5, even without modulation the pitch on the eventide is not smooth. It's obvious, look how fast the parameter of the exp pedal are changing at the beginning of the run...it goes like logarithmic, it's not linear as it should. The range of the whammy is great on the other hand.

Same problem here. I love everything in my H9 except the Whammy feature, It doesn't sound smooth. I can hear every pitch step, and it is supposed to sound like a smooth ramp, just like original whammy does. My axe fx had the same problem, but I solved it with the "Midi Damping" function.

Sadly I have to agree... you can't do USEFUL whammy style octave sweeps with the H9... the sweeps are just way too slow and sound very bad... quite a shame for a 750 dollar pedal.... it's not Missions fault though and happens with every expression pedal I tried.

Yeah, some documentation explaining how to set up the toe switch would have been nice.
