Cities Skylines Industries:
In one of the most in-depth expansions in Cities: Skylines history, Industry becomes a larger and more meaningful part of the game with this expansion. Players can customize their industrial areas with supply chains for the four different resource types and unique factories. Well managed industry areas will level up and become more efficient. Aside from production chains, there is a new city service for handling mail and the cargo airport eases import and export of factory goods. There are FIVE new maps, new policies, new city services, new buildings (including resource extractors, manufacturers, warehouses and unique factories) and more.
Key Features:
- MAKE IT HAPPEN
Follow your products from harvesting to processing, storage and production, then transport them to commercial zones or export to other cities.
- CAPTAIN YOUR OWN INDUSTRIES
Define an area with the industry area tool and place highly specialized industrial buildings to build and manage the production chain from raw material extraction up to final end product. Industry Areas are divided into four types based on the natural resource they are processing: Farming, Forest, Ore and Oil. These areas can level up upon reaching productions goals and staffing requirements.
- BUILD IT UP, BUTTERCUP
New industrial buildings include Extractors, Warehouse Facilities, Processing and Auxiliary Buildings, Industrial Props and Roads. Unique Factories, such as Food, Toy, Furniture, Car and Electronics produce luxury products, and require a large number of workers, water and electricity as well as input from your industries.
- SHIP IT
Manage traffic and logistics with industrial warehouses and the use of the new Cargo Services including a cargo airport.
GO POSTAL
Boost your citizens’ well-being with mail delivery and collection services. Post sorting facilities handle mail between outside connections and the post offices, and new Post Van and Truck vehicles enable the carriage.
- WONK HARD
Three new Industry Policies and four City-wide Policies, including Workers’ Union, Sorting, Tolls, Wi-Fi, Logistics, Work Safety and Automation.

Hey, why dont you start new series where you teach new players how to start new city, how to make roads that are not grids. If i try it on my own it looks like monkey made it. Instead of fixing trafic you can do guide on how to plan for that. I am new player and have no idea on how to expand my city. Also you can tell us what mods are must have, and how to use them.

Four lanes at most, but one lane roads (one way) or two lane roads, that's really all you need. Besides, the AI isn't intelligent enough to use multiple lanes properly, but then again, neither are humans, so I guess it adds up.
@MarkusReese
@MarkusReese 5 лет назад
@@CottidaeSEA They are if you know how to properly use Six lane roads. I do quite frequently, but that is in conjunction with certain types of interchanges. This video actually has one proper high flow interchange at the 1:05 where you use both sides of the road for exit and merging. This encourages traffic to use all the lanes and they will at full speed. I did a sort of writeup on it last night. @@VascoCC95 If you truly want to micromanage your lanes, I suggest that you go from popular destinations and adjust the road settings from there. The problem of course being that it's a lot of work.

The core of the problem in this city is that all traffic is routed towards the highways and just a few main roads. The neighbourhoods are to isolated. I did this as well earlier in my ‘career’. Really helps to give traffic many many options. Use a lot of overpasses, tunnels and bridges! Good public transport lines and dont forget about pedestrians.
@DC4444
@DC4444 4 года назад
This also happened to be the core problem in Auckland, New Zealand in the 1980's. Minimal public transport and almost no walking and cycling infrastructure. There is still a political party that thinks all of New Zealand's transport needs can be satisfied by private cars and trucks, with no public transport, active transport or freight rail.

A cloverleaf is still superior to a traffic circle in real life once you hit the 3 lane each way road size... a cloverleaf can handle >3,000 cars per hour in every direction, while the 3 lane traffic circle is limited to about 1,500, in total.

Just delete the road in front of it and then have a two-lane road running straight into the doors. It will count as connected, and then the trucks literally don't slow down at all to enter and exit the terminal. It speeds things up massively. Enjoy your videos, sir! As a point... about 9:00 you speak about highways not reducing lanes at exits in the UK... Here in Dallas, Texas, USA, we have cases where they do. You will have four-lane highway approaching an interchange or junction, and one lane will exit, leaving three until the other side, where the on-ramp becomes the fourth lane again. I suppose "They" think that enough traffic will exit so there is no need for the extra lane between, and want to save money or something. Keep up the great work!

Langley, BC has a few of those three-to-two laners as well, and one absolutely GIANT six-lane roundabout circle road that also has businesses on it. It’s fun to drive lol My city handles a few of its suburban intersections with the tiniest roundabouts ever. As in… the first time I encountered them, I literally ran over the centre bump with my SUV. The roads aren’t even that busy, just that they had problems with people flying down them that they put those in to slow traffic down a bit. Great videos. Keep up the good work.

Nice fix! Another option if you have a junk crap ton of traffic on the highway is to put in a secondary highway, treating the original as a bypass. That way you have a high-speed, high-capacity road around your city for locals to get around and the outsiders who are passing through the area won't bork up your traffic with all the congestion they create. It also keeps trucks delivering stuff locally from your industry clogging up the main highway. There are a lot of places like this in the US where through traffic stays on the main highway and local traffic has their own. Just an idea that may help with all of that.

One little suggestion for further fixes, with high congested roundabouts such as the 17:40 with the new cargo hub, you can add a Four lane highway before and after the Cargo Entrance/exit, and use that extra lane to the only one that can be used to get in and get out of the cargo train station with their own lane. Also, could you use the highway one lane slip-road instead off this one lane street to gain more speed (except the section when you put the cargo station), if you have the space for it as on 19:20. I suppose you don't do it on the 17:40 cargo station because of the limited amount of space. But anyway GG men. With you video today we've learned how, even with plenty of highways and junctions to each them, we need to add those extra lanes before the exits (or reduce the next highwaysection at 2 lanes if you have limited space).
@Krapvag

the developers should add a sub game rather than bloated broken DLC that teaches road hierarchy and transport networking, like a scenario where you only have limited numbers of each road type and it becomes a puzzle-tutorial. This city had a ton of highway interchanges but no ring roads or main roads connecting things up

At some point, this stops being traffic management and turns into Industrial Line Throughput Management. The buffers are good for surges, but the true problem ends up being total throughput at the cargo terminals. If the terminals can only handle 100 units of cargo per unit time, then it doesn't matter how much traffic shenanigans happen back along the line. You get 101 or more cargo units per unit time, it will eventually stack back all the way to source. Thus, adding that extra terminal was critical to clearing the cargo backlog. All in all, the biggest theme I see across a lot of these cities you've fixed is a tendency for players to use giant, high-density 'cells' of zones. If you pack 100 square km of industrial zone to the brim with factories, that's a 100 square km of factories, with all the trucks and employees that go with it. And then someone sticks a cargo terminal or two in some out of the way place on the map? That's asking for trouble. If you have a megacell zone like that, you want a cargo terminal pretty much right on top of it so trucks don't even have to LEAVE the area to go clog up your highways. Just look at the actual layout of major industrial hubs or ports that use rail connections. The rail spurs themselves usually come right into the heart of the area and branch out to individual major facilities. Obviously, we can't exactly do that in CS because the cargo terminal is one monster facility. Conversely, if you do a rail terminal for dispersed industry, it makes sense to set it up as it's own exit off a highway, with one-way flow much like an airport loop (as you did with the new terminal and the buffer). Of course, you're not redesigning their cities. You're taking what cities they've built, and spending time making the traffic system work for them as best you can. And I've definitely applied a few techniques of yours that, while academic in real life, did not click in the game engine until you expressly did it. The highway upgrade to 4-lane for slip lane ramps was one thing. I've seen it enough times here in the States that it's just background noise to my mind, but not something I ever thought about in the game, treating explicit road types like they can't be intermingled. The traffic manager definitely takes that to the next level, allowing me to use small streets for parking lots and other such 'non road' setups, while not having to worry about twenty junctions along a short stretch of road, because I set all those side paths to give way to the main road. Just controlling and shaping road ACCESS unsnarls some otherwise untenable road configurations. Makes me want to send you screencaps to give you ideas for your own fixes.

@superdau
@superdau 5 лет назад
Cargo stations have been almost broken in the way they work since the start. You have absolutely no control over cargo traffic, the cargo station is way too slow in accepting trucks and faster cargo stations apparently aren't possible to to due to how they are coded (considering that mods have changed almost everything, but there is no better cargo station available). It would be nice if you could at least set a cargo station to something like "city internal"/"export" only, or set them to only service the district they are placed in. I wish they would fix that instead of releasing one DLC with similar game mechanics after the other.

I also had to edit the triangular rail junctions to accommodate even longer trains than what I had expected (~8 passenger coaches wasn't long enough) Bottom line - the vanilla game is almost unworkable without a traffic manager, and if you draw the wrong hand with the random number generator, you can have one of your neighbors just bury your city with freight - trucks and trains - even before you get to 35,000 residents

Note that you still have to actually fix your traffic rules, or it won't help. It's just a way to see more immediate change while making it possible to troubleshoot other areas, since one part can lock down another.

Not sure if this is also so in UK, but the sliplane in the Netherlands is a bit different, like the 1 lane does exist already, but is a place where only cars with problems may stand still and/or emergency vechicles may drive over. You see a line going diaganoal a bit and then you have your slip lane. And that's with normal highway to normal roads. When it's a big intersection of a highway, you get the well known cloverleaf for example. But the lanes are split. Like you got a 4 lane highway, 2 go straight on, 2 go right, but it takes about 200 meters before they actually go of. Then a middle piece is placed. And then there is another slip lane that actually goes in and/or out. And yeah, to be fair. Cities Skylines doesn't do that and I wish they would, for realism sake. Like sometimes it really causes so much less problems. For example the Brienenoordbridge by Rotterdam. You got 2 seperate lanes. After the A15 to the A16 stopped, you still got that, just so that there are 3 lanes totally going to the end of the highway, which never gets jammed because of incoming traffic from normal ways, because they get there own 2 way highway next to it. (And it needs that, because Feyenoord is a big footbal stadium so... I would love to see that in Cities Skylines to because then traffic will flow even better. The only traffic jams happening now are because of accidents and/or bridge openings. Not just because a huge load of traffic gets to go the one way. At least not on the long 3 way highway... I can't make that, would be interested how you will do that, and/if UK has that to? (Netherlands and UK aren't that different...)

I have found that distributing your industry thru the city, surrounded by commercial, solves the traffic issue from commercial traffic issues. They sort of distribute better. Then put ur rail yard further from the city with multiple road entryways. I start my city centers with 4 to 6 industry grids, surrounded by commercial, then residential on the outside. I have one district with 85k ppl and no public transport. But traffic is epic. Ppl prefer to walk since their residential areas are right by their work.

They almost always add extra slip lanes in the US as well. Only on very low traffic highways or when highways merge into other larger highways do we have lanes just disappear. It might work in the game but IRL it's a pretty big safety concern to just have the lane you're in turn into grass lol.

Random idea biffa, mostly for fun and giggles but have you considered doing a viewer competition where you supply a city to your viewers and ask them to fix it and submit the fixed version back to you then do a judge on who did the best job, sort of a "fix my city" competition for the viewers. Plenty of us do proverbial backseat driving and whilst i'm not sure i could take part it occurred to me it would be fun, (been watching some other fix videos by other people and thinking about what you'd do vs what they do and it got me thinking).
