Cities Skylines Industries:
In one of the most in-depth expansions in Cities: Skylines history, Industry becomes a larger and more meaningful part of the game with this expansion. Players can customize their industrial areas with supply chains for the four different resource types and unique factories. Well managed industry areas will level up and become more efficient. Aside from production chains, there is a new city service for handling mail and the cargo airport eases import and export of factory goods. There are FIVE new maps, new policies, new city services, new buildings (including resource extractors, manufacturers, warehouses and unique factories) and more.
Key Features:
- MAKE IT HAPPEN
Follow your products from harvesting to processing, storage and production, then transport them to commercial zones or export to other cities.
- CAPTAIN YOUR OWN INDUSTRIES
Define an area with the industry area tool and place highly specialized industrial buildings to build and manage the production chain from raw material extraction up to final end product. Industry Areas are divided into four types based on the natural resource they are processing: Farming, Forest, Ore and Oil. These areas can level up upon reaching productions goals and staffing requirements.
- BUILD IT UP, BUTTERCUP
New industrial buildings include Extractors, Warehouse Facilities, Processing and Auxiliary Buildings, Industrial Props and Roads. Unique Factories, such as Food, Toy, Furniture, Car and Electronics produce luxury products, and require a large number of workers, water and electricity as well as input from your industries.
- SHIP IT
Manage traffic and logistics with industrial warehouses and the use of the new Cargo Services including a cargo airport.
GO POSTAL
Boost your citizens’ well-being with mail delivery and collection services. Post sorting facilities handle mail between outside connections and the post offices, and new Post Van and Truck vehicles enable the carriage.
- WONK HARD
Three new Industry Policies and four City-wide Policies, including Workers’ Union, Sorting, Tolls, Wi-Fi, Logistics, Work Safety and Automation.

At 4:50 the button you mentioned, just to point it out to ppl. It lets vehicles enter a junction even when their exit is filled with cars ie. it's blocked. This is generally against traffic rules around the world as well, hence the default setting. The feature is, that if you have many offramps etc. on a road, many of the roadspace will not be used if this setting is left disabled. Enabling it can also speed up cars because instead of stopping at the entrance, starting, stopping at the end of a line of vehicles - they immediately go straight on. The downside is that it gives less chance to merging traffic to enter the road, because cars are coming more densely and faster (which is the point). Also, if the exit is blocked, and cars enter the junction, it will block the junction from crossing traffic. This means that for example on a roundabout, if cars pile up on the second lane, but the third (inner) lane is empty, any cars that could easily go on their ways have to wait until the traffic clears out, meaning no/few vehicles will cross that junction, causing pileups elsewhere, eventually ending in a gridlock. Leaving intersections clear means that as long as there are empty lanes, at least some bit of traffic will move through. Blocked junctions can also stop city services/emergency services from responding up to a minute, enough for a couple of buildings to burn down. (emergency vehicles automatically try to find the right lanes regardless of the situation, but this scenario means they are completely blocked)

I don't often leave comments, but this episode reminded me of a roundabout that has been just built on modest highway access road from my district of the town. Roundabouts, roundabouts, roundabouts.... It's the third one on my route out of town. I had feared them when learning to drive, but by now i love them... What people can't really notice ingame, is that they are in fact safer than usual, say, four way crossroad. The roundabout i mentioned on highway access was made to replace a horrendously long traffic light (We're speaking a whole minute of waiting to go on it, lest you turn left and merge along the traffic on your side of the road), and only around 15 seconds to cross. You can imagine how it looks and feels from the game. The ones made before it, though... Were possibly built due to drunk drivers, in fact. They had caused multiple lethal crashes before the crossroad there with traffic lights was replaced by a generous roundabout. not a single death there yet, and the traffic speeding in from the road into town has to slow down rather than hope to pass in the yellow light. Partially eastern europe issues, partially YEP, ROUNDABOUTS ARE A COOL THING Guess it's therapeutic to see you fix the flow, and see how it works oh so similarly in real life. Also, an idea for you. I recommend you to check out "Freeways", a rather simple game that achieves a lot by limiting. It's sometimes ridiculous requirements to interchanges make for fun puzzle, and you might try and incorporate in a trully beautiful mess of spaghetti, the ultimate absurdity that actually works well. Somehow.

This thing is weird and I get that in a game mechanic it works but in real life... Our major intersection had a malfunction in traffic lights once and everybody was driving onto the intersection effectively blocking the traffic coming in from the sides... It took a bunch of cops and half a day to clear that out lmao... I'd never think of allowing that in game xD But then again, in other countries people have common sense and manage to always keep moving and not have accidents even though nobody follows traffic regulations :')
@guillaumegaudin694
@guillaumegaudin694 5 лет назад
@@Lilian040210 When you come into Paris from the north (porte de la chapelle), once you cross the ring (périphérique) you come to cross a lesser known ring, which is actually an assembly of boulevards. Both the road coming into Paris there and this inner ring are roads with 2 lanes each way, separated by a few meters. So at the crossing of these two roads, they put traffic lights and a concrete square island. It once happened to me that all the people trying to go left simultaneously (and in Paris they don't worry about leaving clear the intersection, neither about staying on the left lane to turn left) all blocked the intersection. And we sat there for a good 15 minutes, nobody could go nor back up. So i think that the rule of leaving the intersections clear when you can't get out of it before the lights change is a good one. It is actually in the french road law, but often forgotten and not inforced. In paris there are no roundabouts (the few one are not the ones where cars driving on it have the priority but the opposite) and a lot of traffic lights. We need Biffa to sort it up !

Lmao that's the problem with old cities, when they were build nobody could even begin to imagine the amount of cars we have these days... Currently I am living in a small(ish 200k+ ppl) town and it was thought out when it was build - prospects everywhere, going around the blocks, inside the blocks 100% pedestrian area with exception of parkings for residents. Lots of space between the road, sidewalks and buildings... Roundabouts. It's all neat. Except for the old part of town that is around 400yo and has tiny streets. But they made them one way so it's good unless someone bonks into someone xD The city I was living in before is an almost 1mil ppl old city and it's central road is a rather small one (2 lanes both way) for the amount of traffic going through it - it's the only road basically that goes throughout half the city with no ways of going around - only tiny roads where 2 cars can barely pass one another - it's a disaster... They need a few roundabouts xD And it needs metro ASAP... (I wonder if u can use the game to simulate the changes in reality.. hm.. gotta build the city first :D) Never realized how well done my current town is until I moved into the disaster one and now that I'm watching these vids I'm also.. proud kind of? I guess xD But boi, after being stuck in traffic a great deal of times it feels so good to just be able to hop in and go with no worries :'''') PS Also roundabouts we have work in a medium traffic (and in game) but I wonder if they'd work that well in some heavy traffic of ''millioner cities''...

I have cities that consist of mainly the two lanes each direction, 3 lanes each direction for main roads (used sparingly). My cities have populations over 100k and my traffic at worst will sit around 80-85%. Also keep in mind connections on and off highways - find a good balance. You don’t need to go overboard and have on/off ramps every 10 squares, but you also don’t want just one to an area. Best thing to do would be to build a quick city and play with the traffic to get to know how it works. Once you get that you’ll be right - also make sure to get the Traffic Manager President Edition mod. This is great for managing traffic a bit more finer than what the base game allows. GOOD LUCK!!

Ellie Andriotis no worries. It’s addictive! One big thing to remember is that you won’t start off making cities like you see on here. Took me a while to make things look realistic etc. feel free to add me on Steam if you have any questions or get stuck... s.team/p/vpg-mnnf/HJFPPFTG I’ve had this game since 2015ish - so I know my way around pretty well!

I haven't played this game, but an assumption I'd make about the 6-lane road situation is that the pathfinding algorithm gives preference to larger roads. Meaning that, counter to what a new player might think, a wide road means lots more traffic, rather than plenty of room for people to drive. You can think of it as every section of a road having a cost for driving over it. A 6-lane highway might have a cost of 1, while a 2-lane street might have a cost of 10. A residential area with 4 lanes throughout could be a shortcut to the highway, but with smaller streets, it becomes "cheaper" to stay on the main road and go around.

24:30 "It's all coming into this section here, and that is the only way in." They used to be able to come in by train, but you wanted that traffic on the highway. So now they unload, get on the highway, and drive all the way around to where they used to unload because that's where they want their cargo.

16:35 not always a good idea to cut the industry off from the cargo trains. The industry uses the cargo trains for export, so when you limit access to only the highway you make all the trucks go on the highway instead of driving around their own neighbourhood, which literally means you're just shifting the problem onto another road. Ideally you want to change the whole setup so the trucks don't have to drive far to get to the train, which means moving the cargo terminal to a more central location. You do need to keep the cargo terminals on separate loops from the surrounding area to avoid the worst jams, but by placing it in a more ideal place you'll shorten the distance the trucks have to move, which in turn will drastically reduce how many trucks are on the road at any given time. Also to properly reduce traffic through town you need an internal freight train system that hauls freight from the industry to the commercial zone, and ideally you want to place one of those freight terminals close to the one that receives all the external trains, so when your city import goods they can come in on the train, go onto a truck, drive across the street to an internal train, and then the train will take the goods to the final destination. That way you get minimal traffic going to the commercial zones.

"Let's find some other hot spots" *_That road between the downtown area and industrial area._* It's a hotspot, a veritable _stroad!_ I'd take out all the properties along it out from the fringe of the downtown to the industrial rotary and make it a surface highway and connect it to the nearby freeway

Biffa, I think this is your best job. Dude! This city's traffic was almost NOT moving! You got it going by adding roundabouts and freeing up intersections with the Traffic Manager Mod. You added highways and interchanges to give Cims more ways to move around. Congratulations! 😁 But I wonder: Why does adding wider roads actually seem to INCREASE the traffic? 🤔
@randomcommenter494
@randomcommenter494 5 лет назад
That's due to road hierarchy: In the game same as in real life, people tend to leave small roads quickly to get to wider connector roads with fewer junctions that lead outside the area they are leaving and towards the area they want to go to. If every road is the same width, they lose orientation and start cruising through the entire neighborhood instead of leaving it the quickest way possible because then they choose their route only based on travel distance - but in a city, the shortest way isn't always the fastest. Especially not if everyone uses ist.

Frankly once you realized you had so much traffic to that industry area you should have connected the 2 disconnected ones with a much better interconnection instead of only that singular road That would have diverted a lot of that traffic to the highway connection that serves that area.

That symbol is basically the same as a yellow box (here in the UK) you cant enter the yellow box unless your exit is clear. I sometimes don’t use the give way on a roundabout but stop them entering unless the exit is clear, especially if it is particularly busy in one direction to have a slight more priority than other lanes entering the roundabout.

Biffa you could have added another connection between the 2 main areas of the city (so not everyone goes through that main road that you got many issues on). And also you could have kept some roundabout middle lanes as going both ways since trafic exiting is heavy.

Cargo station accessible by only a highway. Trucks from cargo station need to get a whole big round of travel just to transfer the cargo to a few blocks away because there’s just no short road to it. Seems logic by CS standard. I approve as long as the traffic don’t build up.

Tip for handling bus traffic: Instead of putting more and more buses on a line because buses are full, go on the workshop and download buses with higher capacity to transport more than 30 people. Also, if a bus line is being used a lot, see where people are getting on and getting off; can you add another mode of transport with higher capacity options between those two points? i.e a metro or train line. Also, walking paths are friends.
