What will happen when you try to cool down extremely hot gas furnace with regular CPU coolers? We tested water cooling kit, heat pipe cooler and regular heat sink cooler until failure. Will coolers explode or melt? Watch the video with thermal camera shots to find out

I think the hot air was getting to the radiator, should have maybe protected it with the glove like you did the wires. Interesting that even the small heatsink was enough to make a big difference in melting.

I think it might be interesting if you took a smaller, about CPU sized piece of aluminum, and sandwiched it between the cooler and a steel plate or something, and try testing the CPU coolers again, except this time gradually increasing the heat, and seeing how long the cooler can keep the aluminum from melting.

The thermal paste is just to bridge the air gaps between the microtexture of the metal surfaces. It has a lower heat transfer coefficient than metal-metal, but higher than metal-air-metal. So more paste is not better. I wonder what would have been the result if you had longer lines on the water cooler. And if they were shielded from the radiant heat of the furnace.
