It's interesting that you're describing what I experienced when I got this toy as a child brand new out of the box. It was fragile and it was also missing parts. Your car is the first one I have seen completely put together. That said, I loved the toy, and I got a lot of miles out of it. -Pun intended.

Here in Japan I’m in 2024 and I bought this brand new on a Japanese online auction website- It’s the best light & sound Ecto-1 toy ever made, period

Got this Christmas morning was beyond excited

I'm abit late to the party but I have that original Ecto 1 as well! My parents got it for me when I was a kid. It's a little beat up and some parts are missing. I'm 35 now and I will never ever get rid of it!

DONT FORGET ABOUT THE GHOST IN THE PASSENGER REAR WINDOW THAT LIGHTS UP....AND THE PARTS THAT "POP" OFF ARE SUPPOSED TO SHOW BATTLE DAMAGE LIKE THE REAR BUMPER ON THE ENGLISH BOX IT SHOULD SAY IT.. OOOH OK YOU FOUND THE GHOST LOL... I MISS THIS TOY MAN

I had my hands on this in the store, new, back when this show was on the air. At that time I was only into collecting Star Trek stuff and I really didn't like the idea of a new GB. I have the Kenner Ecto-1 and Ecto-2 with the firehouse and the original GB figures and their proton packs. I don't care how much I'm offered, they will never leave me. :)

I used to have the Italian GIG version, box and all, unfortunately I wasn't really all that interested in collecting Ghostbusters toys at the time, so I sold it - really wish I hadn't done that. Someone told me the Kenner figures wouldn't fit! I never observed any durability issues with it. Also if I had been you, I would've put the Ghostbusters 2 decals on it instead!

Mine was junk also right out of the box straight from the store shelf in the 90s... funny you mentioned the trend masters voltron I loved that version as well especially the stealth voltron ! This was my favorite vehicle for years even though mine was full of super glue, I ripped all my stickers off shortly after I got it too!

The ecto on the box is the prototype version of the car wich was also shown in an early toy catalogue aswell at the same time and all the toys on the back of the boxes are prototypes for some reason

I had this Ecto -1 when I was a kid and I was very confused about the fender coming as well

I liked it more than the one from the Real Ghostbusters... at least it wasn't as cartoonish. It always bothered me how the toys were never 100% based on the movie.

Nice, this is the one from my childhood. I don’t think there was even another ghostbuster cartoon after the 90s. Would be cool to see if they do another cartoon for Ghostbusters Afterlife

New stickers look way better, which ones did you use? also any tips on how to remove them? Mine is super old so I want to try to bring back some of the whiteness before adding the og logo stickers

I grew up with Extreme Ghost Buster and this got to be my favorite eco one vechicle and totally matching of it but i notice and see the Ghost Buster Symbol is smaller here then the commercial but not must bump about it, i did wish they had garret figure so he can slide on a ramp on the back side of the vechicle though, other then that beautiful vehicle beside notice you cannot open the other door kinda bump me out bit still great cool detail eco 1 vechicle.

Why is it the fender and bumper falling off reminds me of the crash dummy toys from the 90's? Im wondering if that was designed to reflect battle damage -as if they were having a rough ride or perhaps a bad encounter with a powerful ghost?

I'm thinking the fender and the bumper are meant to be battle damage

I 5hink thr slimer is the same one from the Samhain retro action figure

If I could I'd get the Original ecto 1 and customize it like Extreme Ghostbusters.

Btw Bert, you should try to score the large proton pack and ghost trap stuff -you know the large nerf and projector guns they made for kids to shoot ghosts. I had the proton pack as a kid and use to ride my bike around the neighborhood with it on. haha Good times. They had some good weapons they sold but my family didn't have a lot of money so yeah... I was lucky to get what I had and I still have a lot of it to this day.

I regret never getting this Ecto-1 I really liked it, but the figures put me off even though I bought 4 of them, the 2 Eduardos and the 2 Rolands. The aesthetics of the figures were the things that put me off cause they looked ugly, yet the Ecto 1 looked awesome. I wonder if the newest GB Fright Features figures that has the original GBs whom are articulated like the RGB toys fit on this...I mean they are a bit smaller than the RGBs and it is the original cast of characters so if they do, it would be awesome, bit if they are too small well...anyway, I hope I can get this Ecto 1 regardless in the future, I might end up customizing my own EGB figures that may look good then and even fit this car.

What are your thoughts on extreme ghostbusters?

I distinctly remember in a Toy Fare magazine they showed off this Ecto-1 and it had pictured the back passenger doors could open. I was so stoked about that, and was one of the disappointing features that wasn't in the final product. But I still loved the lights and sound of it.

How much did u pay on Ebay for ecto just asking
