Ideas - put the pillows in reg pillowcases or wrap with old sheets to cover them from dust. Loosely put plastic bags over the flowers, lampshades and macrame to cover them from dust. Buy a step ladder to keep at the storage unit for convenience. Take close up pictures of every shelf and box so you can quickly access it to know what you have without having to go to the storage unit all the time (this is great after reorganizing too). Maybe a battery powered light of some source. Maybe labeling the shelves might help too.
have you considered vacuum seal bags for things like cushions and fabric? it'll reduce the space they take up but also protect them from damage and insects.
This video perfectly satisfied my snoopiness to see what cool stuff other people have, and also allowed me to feel satisfied and like I did something productive even though I was just sitting on my couch and you did all of the work 😆
Since you have so many things, you should take a photo inventory of what you already have, it would be easier to check things that way before every project. Love the organization 😊
Excellent job! Now you need to create an inventory management system. Start labeling boxes and shelves, take pics of items etc so you know exactly what you have. As you grow you will be so glad you did.
I feel like everyone should film ‘reorganizing my storage’ bc then you can reference it to see what items you have or where you put things without having to dig through boxes 😅
That jug that you showed in the beginning is actually called a Bharani. It's commonly used in India to store pickles and stuff for a long time. They come in a lot of shapes and sizes too.
Oh my goodness, I want to shop your storage! You have the coolest stuff! For light in your storage space, dollar tree tap lights would be a great solution under each shelf.
Having gone through the Loma Prieta earthquake located by Santa Cruz I would recommend using bungie cords pulled tightly around your breakables especially the lamps and as u mentioned around the shelving. Hopefully the mirror is laying flat if the storage renter next to usually accidentally hits the wall between you things might tumble. It’s good you chose an indoor storage place you won’t need to deal with mice, weather and dust. I enjoy your channel.
Just a tip: you should grab those battery operated stick on led lights to hang in the unit so u have plenty of light when/where you need it. 💙 Amazon sells them, super reasonable.
Totally could’ve used this video back in September. We lived out of a storage unit for three months while closing on our home. This inspires me to organize my cleaning supply closet, though!
I love storage and organizing videos! I am amazed you not only got everything back in the space but made it functional and accessible. Plus you saved space for future projects. With storage units vertical space is so under used. Thank you for sharing- it's so inspirational!
Thank you so much! We need to organize an area of our new garage and we are letting the previous owner’s bad shelf decisions effect our storage. Down his one shelf comes! ❤️
This is the only true video I could find that really really related to me. Everyone else was already somewhat organized. My storage looks about like this and I needed motivation to drag it all out and restart with proper organizing!
Have you ever thought of using vacuum bags for your pillows and throws? All I could think of was spiders! It would also give you room for more things. Otherwise, it looks awesome.
That jewellery holder thing (without spokes), would be great to store the roll of macrame you are working from - it would unroll nicely and not take off over the floor (yes, I have chased macrame cord around the floor!). Meanwhile, imagine ‘storage wars’ purchasing your unit. They’d be gobsmacked!
This was so satisfying to watch and it wasn't even my stuff, so I can imagine how YOU felt....aaaaaahhhhh. I loved the way you organized like with like items while still making everything accessible!
My garage is starting to look like your storage unit. We are "saving" items from our married sons. And things we inherited from my mother when she passed. We have decided this spring we WILL be dealing with it all. You have given me some great ideas!!
Watching this again after the first room decorating video in the new California house! I can't wait to see some of these pieces get a life in your new home 💕
Great video! idk if the amount of work would make it worth it, but since you're wanting to access things potentially fairly regularly and there will be a lot to go through, it could be a good idea to take a picture of everything already in there and everything you add, and then just catalog like into different folders to keep on your computer or something. Sort of like creating an online look book of stuff you already have. Doesn't have to be perfect lighting, but instead of starting a project and just going through everything, it would be more like "i need a vase, what are my options from things I already have." You could even tag the photos in all sorts of different ways. Like not just sorting/organizing by item type, but also tag things like the material or color in case you need something specific for a space.
I saw a cool hack the other day... you use those binder clips...you fold up your cords, put them into the binder clip, then clip it onto the lamp shade...keeps the cord contained and safe!!!!! filling that space is like real life Tetris!!! HAHA
I LOVE your neat storage unit! When we were moving I took a lot of stuff to storage. I got shelving units that would hold all the bins & boxes...all either clear or labeled. Wish my house was that neat! You did a great job.
I would love to see you sew some home made clothing with your dress form! Or even do some clothing thrift flips such as making a blanket into a dress for an example 😊
I Lov you so much I binge watched you so u need to make more!! And I have to say your boyfriend is a trooper!! Always there for you with whatever crazy idea you have or thing you wanna do! Lol
wow!! what alot of things! you did a great job of organizing! that is what makes my heart happy! I love being able to open a door and just look at all of the goodness! thanks for sharing! xoxo
Because you are in LA, putting string, cable, or bungees, across the front, to help keep things in place on the shelf in case of an earthquake. You can use the arealy built in holes on the post, or drill some screws for this purpose.
Cool video! Storage unit for someone like you is a really good solution (in fact I've always been wondering where you store all your thrift flips, considering your house is clearly not flooded with decor pieces :D). Couple of tips: 1) Next time you invest in shelving units check out IKEA's Ivar system, it has flexible shelf height and it's more stable than Hejne 2) Label your stuff! You will grow tired of looking into every drawer and every basket before you know it. Label makers are super affordable now. All the best!
Looks so good from when you started. We cleaned out our attic and garage and got rid of tons of stuff we've collected over the years and reorganized. I've been wanting to do that for the past 10 years and this was the year we finally tackled it for a fresh start to the new year. It was so satisfying!
DIY with KB just did this last week. You guys must follow each other. She also created a beautiful Christmas chandelier over her dining room table. Great minds think alike. Thanks for the creative, inspiring content.
Battery operated lights would be helpful. I finally put lights in all of my closets and under the sink cabinets, major improvement. Accessing those spaces is so much faster and easier when you can actually see.
Giving me so much motivation! We have a storage unit down the hall from our apartment. It quite small which is fine because my roommate and I don’t own very much. However it’s been a mess lately because I’ve started up cycling and selling vintage pieces so I need to keep my inventory nice and accessible for when customer come to pick up their orders!
Organizing has always been a very therapeutic activity for me!! It’s one of my passions with decorating being my #1❣️😌 This was so therapeutic and motivating! 👍🏼
You may want to donate the pillows and keep the pillow forms; I have found that once I store a pillow, I’ve never used it again. And, those macrame pieces .... Thank you for sharing your tips.
