One of my favorite episodes. Nigel Terry was great and I always like the episodes where Duncan has to fight an old friend even when he may not want to.

"I shoot him again?" "No. You run like hell." Awesome exchange! But seriously, kudos to Richie for surprising us all and setting that Immortal on fire...
This was the very first episode of the series I'd ever seen, found it by accident while looking for something interesting to watch on TV one afternoon back in 2015. I knew about the movies but had no idea there was a series until then. Nigel Terry played King Arthur in EXCALIBUR (1981). R.I.P. Nigel Terry (1945-2015).
Yes. Excalibur. A classic movie that unjustly has not attained the compliment known as "Classic." Good script; Good cinemaphotography; good musical scores/soundtrack.
Loved the fact that they played "She Drives Me Crazy" by the 90's British rock group Fine Young Cannibals. Lead singer Roland Gift ended up playing the role of the evil Immortal Xavier St. Cloud, the thorn in MacLeod's side in later episodes. He was killed off at some point but his character became so popular they invited him to appear as St. Cloud in historical flashback stories. Like Hugh Fitzcairn he appeared in Highlander more times dead than alive.

What is the series had been written but Richie Ryan was a regular mortal but McLeod made him immortal to save his life also I think they could have spoken French better than that god-awful dubbing and they shouldn't have had the same with the Watchers

34:10 Foreshadowing. Richie wielding Duncan's sword, pretending to be an Immortal. In a few short years, it won't be a pretense anymore. That look Duncan had on his face when he saw him, knowing that one day Richie might become a player in the Game for real, wondering how he would handle Richie's transition on that day, how Richie would handle it...
1st episode it is revealed richie is an immortal. it is at the end Conner tells Duncan that the boy will have to be looked after. or something like that.
Great choice in music lol. Always loved that song. Reminds me of someone that drove me crazy for years and she was hotter then anyone on this show. Fortunately I am still and she is not!!!! Karma is beautiful.
@@lloydthomas2896 They learned some choreographed "movie fencing" usually based slightly on the styles those weapons were used but it's still not based on real sword play. Check out some Historical European Martial Arts tournaments here on youtube for a more accurate look at what swords fights might have looked like....with some rules and protective gear tossed in. :)
Every one is very choreographed and level according to the visiting actor's skill. There are some fights where you can tell the guest sucked because it was pretty much Duncan wailing on the other person's still sword.
Amazing show and episode . That was awesome and surprising , when Ritchie set the immortal on fire , so he could escape. He was very smart indeed ! I liked it when Duncan said to Richie (Noone's has ever beheaded themselves before; though you might make history! It was sad to see Duncan get upset, after he had to kill his old friend!
@@lauriedavis400 They started getting better with the quickening effects by this point in season 1 and 2. Compare to the quickenings in earlier episodes.
Most of that list needed to die. With Sean Burns, it was under the Dark Quickening influence. With Richie it was because that demon took Richie's form, and Duncan thought it was the demon until it was too late. Connor wanted Duncan to kill him, and trapped him with the unstoppable move that he taught him.
@mrrictus I saw this and couldnt believe it myself, it was great to see im again...and if you watch, He even shows some of the same facial expressions he made in Excalibur.....
Good ol Richie, that boy does have some cunning from his larcenous days--the kid has a way of growing on you. He's the closest thing to a son Duncan will ever have. And after episode 4 of season two, Richie will need all the cunning he can muster.
I don't know what's right, but FYI, imdb.com says Eye of the Beholder is 5/8/1993, AFTER Avenging Angel 5/1/1993, not that they're always right, being fan-contributed.
It won't let me play this episode. It says it's not playable because of a complaint on the copyright. I hope the same thing doesn't start to happen to the other episodes. I'm so happy to find these. I was bummed that they took them off Netflix. Always been a huge fan.

Makes more sense than the sword Richie wields for most of his time as an Immortal. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure a rapier is even worse for such a task than a saber.
hahha Richie pretending that hes conner. I wish conner would be in more episodes of Highlander. I would of love to see some seens with Conner and Richie. It was pretty cheesy that he was in only the first episode! Also some seens with Conner and Joe the Watcher and Methos.
Christopher Lambert was supportive in creating a HIGHLANDER TV show, but he didn't do TV shows at this point in his career, so he agreed to "pass the torch" to Adrian Paul, but declined to get involved further. Therefore there were no other guest appearences of him.

So no alibi for the first murder and a known aquintence of first victim. Second victim would have been known and could be placed at his residence by 4 cops and a kid who accused him of the first murder who would have been in lock up during the murder??? Not a smart killer.
And when did Tess die? And when did Richie meet the former drug addict who killed Tess? And when did McCloud let people know he was immortal? Need to be able to search by spoilers.
@@lloydthomas2896 They died in The Darkness. Leader of the pack is when Richie found the drug addict. There is a flashback showing MacLeod showing Tessa he was immortal by shooting himself, Counterfeit I think.
That plot device was kind of obvious though... Pitone could have just let her go then forget about it. No point in killing someone who was in love with you who would probably never snitch be it all on good terms. Now he gotta go kill a buncha other people over a painting. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Dayum... Tribute to Roland Gift + Xavier St. Cloud + very obvious callback for his character... 😂😂😂😂 Loved the series all those years ago, still love it a quarter of a century (and more) later.
Richie really needs to engage his mind first before he acts, Duncan seems to be the one who has to clean up his messes. Also, WHY would he mention Mya's name in front of Gabriel?
