I would say he's portrayed "decently". His mannerisms and voice aren't quite how they are in Rebels, and him being older and living in isolation isn't an excuse.

Ezra hasn't seen a lightsaber in 10 years, while Sabine has been training with it much more recently; who do you think is better at using it in battle? Sabine has also faced Shin twice before, so she is better equipped to duel her than Ezra anyway. Ezra did use a blaster when he needed to. Thrawn didn't WANT to find Ezra. Plus, as we saw in this episode in which you paid no attention to, the Noti are nomadic. Even if Thrawn did find Ezra, they'd simply relocate over and over again. Thrawn only used resources to find Ezra when he needed to buy time for the Chimaera to get ready, which, he also conveniently stated in this episode.

The only way it could have been more on point: "Don't you know who I am? I'm Jabba the Hutt!"

Which she didn't admit to him. She implied she'd been trained by Ahsoka, and Ezra hasn't touched a lightsaber in 10 years and learned to make do without using the force.

Hard to say he's more skilled with it- man hasn't touched a lightsaber in a decade! Yeah, he *was* better than Sabine has ever gotten, once upon a time, but that was a long time ago.

So how is it "hilarious"? I mean she is right, he is more skilled, if anything it would actually make sense. But his reason for not taking it also makes sense. So I don't get the "hilarity" of the situation. Wrong figure of speech.

And he still ends up taking a blaster

I think Ezra has kind of evolved beyond the need for a lightsaber. He feels like an adaptation of the old EU pacifist Jedi who eschewed the use of a lightsaber and just kinda hoped everything turned out okay.

I also like how Ezra has found his own way of how to be a jedi. Remember how Baylan berates Ahsoka with the line "it didn't have to come to this, but you know no other way". Ezra has litteraly found this alternative way. Instead of trying to serve justice with lightsaber combat as Ahsoka does, or trying to re-create the jedi order as Luke does, Ezra simply relies on the force without gadgets and act purely defensive.

@@staffan- He followed Yoda's teachings "The Force is used for Knowledge and Defence... NEVER for Attack" Even when he shot the Storm/Night Troopers, he mostly hit non-vital areas and most likely just knocked them out, he was simply defending himself

So yeah, would make sense that, even when he somehow is a Jedi who uses a blaster more than a lightsaber at this point, he still follows the teaching to disable when possible

In a way I think they also show it with her weapons choice. Before she’d either use her blasters or her lightsaber; but after finding Ezra, this is the first time in the show that she’s using both.

My Problem with her is that she seems to forget the flamethrower quite often, and the wrist rocket would have definetely helped on that cliff

He was playing with Shin and he got up in 3 seconds after a force push. He was not showing his full power in this episode

I don’t think Ezra was weak rusty yes but he dabbled in more force training and hand to hand combat then lightsaber combat which fair enough he has been out of commission for 10 years living with a peaceful community. Ezra definitely had more training than obi wan had as he was keeping his skills in the force honed. He did extremely well and I do think he was playing a little.

this is ahsoka and sabine's show, they're not gonna let ezra do anything

He blocked Shin's lightsaber like a boss, and it makes sense. It's been ten years since he's held a lightsaber and he was a badass with it, but having been so out of practice now if Ezra trying to use a saber against Shin - who has been training regularly - would put him at a disadvantage. Also have to love how Shin came out of nowhere and slashed at his head, only for Ezra to duck at the last possible moment, then he faces her with this look and just says: "Close." That's when Shin realized she was in over her head against Ezra.

Shin really isn't all that impressive, which is fine. Sabine was hinted several times in Rebels that she was Force Sensitive (Loth Wolves, Owls, Bendu), but ultimately it comes down to her ability to use the Darksaber. We see Din struggle with it in Mando because he is not force sensitive and has no desire for leadership (unlike Bo Katan and other Mandos before him). Sabine is in a similar boat, she has no desires for leadership but after only a day of training with Ezra and Kanan (RIP space dad) she's wielding the Darksaber like a boss, which leaves being Force Sensitive as being the other explanation. Kanan also points out that the Force has a will of its own, and he really doubts that it was by pure chance that Sabine picked up the Darksaber on Dathomir. At the same time when he trains her it's clear how frustrated he is, he sees that she has the talent for it but her childhood trauma, innate stubbornness, and plain being a Mandalorian is holding her back. Get a chance and check out Rebel Trial of the Darksaber, Sabine and Kanan fight. It's probably a two minute clip at max but we really see that Sabine has the chops but its clear that cutting herself off from not only others but the Force as well is what's blocking her potential as a Force User. Which goes back to Ahsoka. When Huyang says she has the least aptitude of the Force, he meant it as a way to motivate her - not that she is the weakest force sensitive he's met. The only person she hasn't cut herself off to is Ezra, and it's only until Ezra's about to fall to her death is she able to clearly focus on just him and give him that huge Force push to get him onto Thrawn's ship. A lot of viewers look at that and claim BS, when really it's her finally breaking down that mental wall and connecting with the Force after years and year of attempts. Given her genius IQ, her talent with explosives, her talent with art, and expertise as a Mandalorian - I don't think Disney will make her as powerful a jedi as say someone like Ezra. But as she continues to break down those mental walls of her that had cut herself off from everyone except Ezra, her connection to the Force should grow stronger. Again, it wasn't her lacking skill in the Force. It was her nonstop psychological trauma since childhood that was holding her back. Had it been Kanan or Ezra that were teaching Sabine, she could've pushed past all that. But with Ahsoka also carrying around so much baggage of her own she really wasn't in the right place to be a teacher, especially for Sabine.

...and then he picks up a blaster and uses that instead cause his weak little force pushes werent enough

It’s not that they weren’t enough it’s just that he was being somewhat outnumbered and it’s not like he picked it up he had grabbed a trooper’s arm and made him kill his fellow trooper and then just decided to take the gun and start blasting the troopers also his force pushed weren’t weak they literally sent people flying backwards he just had control over how much force was actually put into the pushes

@@arobin6695 Temporarily. That’s the word. It’s one thing to rely on a blaster, it’s another to beat a enemy, use his own tool, and then discard it.

ezra seemed weak as hell here, got humiliated by shin and had to give up on his little force pushes and switch to a blaster in order to keep up with stormtroopers

I always had a feeling that Star Wars Rebels was the Avatar of other Star Wars series. And a bit like Xenoblade Chronicles 1.

I’d like that. It was cool seeing force-fu Ezra, but give him a lightsaber. On the other hand, it would be cool to see him explain this concept to Luke if they ever meet up.

Maybe they dont explode because of how weak they are. I mean, I would assume that it would be much harder to revive an inquisitor than a stormtropper. I'm still having them listed as dead until we really know otherwise.

Yeah that’s really my only problem with this episode as well as Ezra not being what I hoped he would’ve been in this episode. Back to the fact though if it were regular Stormtroopers I would’ve been cool with it but these dudes are literally juiced up with Nightsister Magick, kind of a bad first impression if I’m gonna be real with you and I hope they aren’t like this in the Heir to The Empjre movie but we can only hope.

Atleast the stormtroopers and Thrawn are bros. Thrawn never like the Tarkin Doctrine, and has probably trained these troopers instead of being cannon fodder. Plus he got the troopers to regroup at the end so he cares
