9:00 you forgot the F-35 is a single engine fighter with no thrust vectoring while the F-22 has 2 engines and thrust vectoring (even though it isnt modelled in dcs) to assist it with the turns
@@calebfoster7972 Once the missiles become a real problem, expect proper measures to be promptly taken (APS, anti-missiles, laser turrets, what have you). And then it's back to WWII. If they fail and the missiles win, these kinds of fighters will be withdrawn from the battlefield, since nobody want to lose all of the planes to the missiles on both sides.
When I try fly the F-35A (or any variant), I can't control the aircraft, the AI automatically flies it. I have FC3 installed and I am running the stable version fully updated. Help?
Hey Cap, if you're moving in an 90° angle to a sam site it should'nt be able to track you, because of the doppler effect, right? I wondered how much you could turn into the direction of the sam site without being detected and whether you could spiral towards it to finally destroy it?
I've never understood why people dislike the looks of the F-35. Does anyone remember what the aircraft that the X-35 beat in the JSF program, the X-32 looked like? That thing was fugly! Supposedly it might have been a better aircraft but I remember watching the PBS documentary on them when I was a teenager and being relieved that the X-35 won the contract. My bias was purely based on looks. My point is I've always thought it was a good-looking airplane. I love the look of the single-engine with two vertical stabilizers and its short stubby wings. It doesn't look fat to me either, it's thicc.
The X-32 looked like a guppy. I'd have preferred to see the Rockwell-MBB X-31 (NASA/DARPA) program to have had more influence on the JSF program. Damn thing could fly at a 70 degree AoA, and being on the 6 of one was no guarantee you wouldn't be shot down *yourself* because they could do a tactically useful version of the cobra, turning all the way around and continuing the way it came from and dumping a 'winder and some cannon fire on you for your trouble.
hey cap ive got the f-35 mod installed it spawns in and everything works apart from that i cant seem to fly it only the AI can do i need all of the FC3 aircrafts? or any other dlcs?
I was gonna say the same thing. If the 35 Mod was as developed as the 22 mod. It would be a closer ballgame but even against Rafale and the 35E. The turns is what is setting the 22 apart.
I think the F-35 would actually own the 22 in BVR since it has electro-optical sensors and a better radar. It wasn't really designed as a dogfighter (still a 9-G aircraft though) , but having an HMD modeled would help it a lot in this fight.
@@antimatter4733 maybe it cant spot air targets at a larger range, but it is faster and more reliable, which is gonna give the f35 more situational awareness
It does have a better set of sensors indeed, but the f22 is waaay better kinematically, which means its way faster, giving its missiles a higher probability of kill
@@antimatter4733 Uh... Physics? The F-22 can supercruise at the F-35's top speed with burners, and the higher the initial launch speed is the greater the missiles aerodynamic range gets.

On April 20, an RAF Victor based on Ascension carried out a radar reconnaissance of 150,000 square miles of South Atlantic, including South Georgia, remaining in flight for 14 hours and 45 minutes. On the same day the Task Force arrived at its destination, and Endurance moved into Saint Andrews Bay to the make contact with isolated BAS field parties. On the next day, the 15 men of Mountain troop, led by Captain Gavin Hamilton, were airlifted onto Fortuna glacier by two Wessex helicopters. They were immediately confronted with extreme conditions including 100 mph winds and freezing temperatures. Deep crevasses slowed the advance, and when the men attempted to set up camp and wait out the storm, their tents were swept away by the wind. Finally, after 15 hours on the glacier, Captain Hamilton requested evacuation, with the message "Unable to move. Environmental casualties imminent." Three Wessex helicopters were dispatched from the Task Force: two Wessex Mk5s from Tidespring and one Mk3 from Antrim. After one failed attempt, they managed to locate and embark the stranded SAS men, but in whiteout conditions, one pilot became disorientated and his aircraft crashed. The passengers were loaded onto the two remaining helicopters, but soon afterwards one of these hit a ridge and crashed, though once again without any serious casualties. The last Wessex, Antrim′s Mk3, after having offloaded its troops on board the destroyer returned to the glacier and after two failed attempts managed to retrieve the downed SAS and aircrew, though their equipment had to be abandoned. The pilot, Lieutenant commander Ian Stanley, managed to nurse his overloaded aircraft back to Antrim and make an emergency landing on her flight deck, for which he was later awarded the Distinguished Service Order.[9][10]
The whole deal is the F22 is meant to clear the skies so the F-35 is unmolested. But they US only built half the original order..........and other countries like Australia DONT have an air superiority fighter at all. The latest kludge is that the F-35 will have to fly with 'wingman' drones to give it help. Except we can all expect (its happened already in the USAF) that drones have been taken over by an enemy and could actually be a hostile threat in a hot conflict. Grim does a good job to pull off some upsets with guile and tactics.
But the Felon which is its only match in air superiority (on paper at least) is made in even more less number. And as the Raptor, i don't think the Russian would export it (at least for a decade or so)
The F-22 is my favorite fighter of all time and I have to hope the higher ups know more that I when deciding to move away from the F-22. Maybe a new 6th generation coming down the pike that’s better than the F-22 and 35.

Uhhh its the F22, it’s always been the F22. The F35 is not competitive when it’s avionics and stealth are disregarded. Now F22 and YF23 would be an interesting fight.
@@trolleriffic Yeah but eventually other planes will get avionics of the same quality and the stealth advantage is already beginning to diminish so the other qualities of the aircraft will be far more important in the long run. The F35 would lose to most modern planes in a dogfight, it lacks the payload capabilities of a good cas or strike fighter, and it’s short range makes it very weak at bvr interception. The F35 is good because it’s new and uses new technology, once it’s not new it won’t be good. The F22 on the other hand is still fantastic in its role despite no longer being technologically advanced. The same is true for other non-stealth aircraft like the F15. The YF23 isn’t significantly less maneuverable than the F22, the reason that idea exists is because LHM held a special demonstration outside of the competition where the F22 preformed a cobra. Northrop didn’t hold a special demonstration and the competition ended shortly afterwards. The planes are similar enough in performance and design that it’s frankly silly to think the F22 could perform maneuvers that the YF23 couldn’t.
TBH though the raptor was going to win from the get-go since its purpose is purely A2A whereas the lightning is definitely a multirole built around utility, not maneuverability.
Honestly, the F-35 probably isn't this bad in real life in terms of dogfighting, and we gotta remember that most of the features that the F-35 has isn't even included in the mod. Am I saying that if the F-35 had these features it could win a dogfight against the F-22? No, not really. Even with all the features of the F-35, it still has a very slim chance of winning a dogfight against the F-22 because the F-35 is just not meant to be a air superiority fighter like the F-22. In the end of the day, these two are excellent fighters that are meant for different roles that exceeds in them.

The f35 has a hdm and hobs missiles irl. This really cripples how well this mod performs in DCS. The F22 mod without thrust vectoring cuts its dps continuous but it's only by a few degrees. Officially the F22a can turn at over 28 degrees per second in a rate fight but in DCS it really can't maintain that. Both of these planes are quite a bit more capable than the mods for different reasons.
I'm pretty sure the F-35A's cockpit doesn't look like that. The F35 has the stick on the right and throttle on the left and also I don't think the F35 has that many buttons and has a screen
I'm pretty sure the F-35 mod doesn't model the cockpit and just reuses that of the SU-27/MiG-29 for the A/G models and the A/A model uses the F-15C cockpit.
F22 is king in simulation and real life at the moment the F35 is decent at best, but that’s always what happens when you try to have an aircraft do to many things.

While it may not be as maneuverable/fast as an F-22, an F-35 is still just as fast and maneuverable (if not more so) as any 4th or 4.5th gen out there. You have to keep in mind that of course a jet is going to go Mach 2+ and be incredibly maneuverable while clean, but slap fuel, targeting pods, ECM pods, missiles etc on there and you drop to Mach 1.3 (if that) and lose a ton in maneuvering capability. So while the F-35's main claim to fame may be it's electronics (which can't be excused with a blanket statement like "when electronics fail") it's not exactly a slouch in the kinematics department
@@grimreapers I thought it would be. Perhaps a comparison with just the A and B models, to see how much of a disadvantagethe B is at? I'm pretty sure the Raptor and Typhoon would run rings around the B model. Its around a +7.5 G (similar to the Hornet?) limit I believe?
Wow animated models in a synthetic world that is totally unrealistic and basically ideas produced in software being actively compared to real world aircraft. Some commenters need to take a deep breath and have a sanity check. The guys were having fun at arcade level and more power to them. The only relatable fact one could draw from this exercise is the sim models outline looks somewhat realistic there the comparisons should end.
@@slickstrings They were testing it with the Scorpion HMD that was issued to A-10 and ANG's F-16C back in 2010. The F-22 was supposed to have an HMD system integrated by 2020.
@@linusa2996 yeah i read somewhere that the cockpit design was giving them issues and they ended up prioritising integration of some air to ground capability first.
I believe that the helmet is too big to fit in the cockpit. If I remember correctly that was said in the F-22 episode of the Fighter Pilot Podcast, not entirely sure though.
Not this one, its the A model. I'm not sure the flight computers on the B model would let you as the rotation of the rear nozzle at the rear would also open up the loo seat to use the lift fan.

Even if it was possible to override the operation of the lift fan, presumably the act of rotating the rear nozzle downwards would push the aircraft nose down to the point that it would crash. Of course if you're dogfighting in an F-35 you're doing it wrong given their incredible BVR and networked warfare capability.

The design requirements of the F-35 were to be smaller, faster, more agile and more stealthy that the craft it is to replace. It failed on all counts which is why they are so keen on selling it to other countries before it has finished being made fully airworthy.
F-35B was designed to replace the harrier, I believe it has succeeded in all these aspects. Vs the F-16/F-18, The A and C versions are stuck with being an aircraft that is designed around VTOL capabilities, while not having any VTOL. Can't really win here, the primary reason for these versions is to have a replacement aircraft that shares common parts making them cheaper and easier to manufacture in the long run. Still more expensive though. Vs the F-22, there is no comparison, The F-22 costs 322 million, the the F-35 now costs 78 million dollars.
@@mraviatorboii2510 Even then it's still cheap by modern standards. Especially for a 5th gen fighter. The F-22 costs 322m per plane after inflation. F-35 is getting cheaper and cheaper, and stands at 78m per aircraft now. The block 70/72 F-16 costs 68m, and the Super hornet costs 66 million. Costs per hour of flight time is still very high but that is expected with the stealth coating.
It is not smaller, it is faster, more agile, and definitely more stealthy than what it replaces… Selling it to other countries has NOTHING to do with its capabilities, it is just business. They try to sell it regardless if it is good or bad. But other parties buy it only if it is good, and they are buying it…
Better in the dogfight... not elsewhere. Majority of modern day air kills are not going to be in the dogfight And like the prior commenter said - real stats are hidden.

@@c0ldyloxproductions324 The Air Force stopped procuring new F22s in favor of the F35 and F15EX, but it's not retiring the F22 in favor of them anytime soon. The F22 is planned to be retired and replaced by the NGAD, which is expected to start being introduced into service in 2030. "there were several articles talking about" doesn't mean shit, and either those articles didn't know WTF they were talking about, or more likely, you are just misremembering the exact details they mentioned.
