I know. Didn't realize how rare they are.

@@Soladaddy i guess people buy the 4x4 ones more even though the RWD ride better.

@@photomasterstudios9495 Got the truck in 2012 and didn't really have a preference, but 2WD is easier to maintain and the ride is a bit better.

very timely for me - i have a 2004 E450 2wd that i have to do tomorrow, same part numbers for the rotor, so i expect it should be a similar job. I didn't know that there were two sets of bearings so not only did you probably save me some time, you also saved me a second trip to the parts store!

Great vid, thanks. Last time I did the front brakes on my 97 F350 dually was in 2002, only put 3K miles per year on her pulling a tractor in the springtime..twas a long time ago, was nice to have some reminders. I remember not having the torque specs for the spindle nut, that was interesting, but makes good sense. Glad people like you take the time to share their knowledge.

I looked in the book and my procedure for e350 is very similar for the bearing. 17 inch lbs. It was actually loose and i had movement in my wheel. Someone clearly left it loose and come to think of it, thats what i always heard was to tighten it and then "back it off a quarter turn or eighth turn". I dont know where that comes from, maybe it was a procedure for older trucks or passed down from the wagon days. I went on a ford trucks forum and some guys there were saying its roughly as tight as you can get it with your fingers, so you got it about right.

Had a new RV trailer with one tire wearing on the edges. Was chasing my tail until someone mentioned the hub nut. Turns out it was a good 1/4 turn loose from the factory.

if the rotors have good greased bearings ,and the rotor is just glazed ,you can use a 3M striping wheel to clean up the rotors while it is on the truck .
@Soladaddy
@Soladaddy 7 месяцев назад
Current situation is warped rotors and not too happy because the bearings have been perfect.

Thanks for the video. Super clear and the right amount of detail. Very helpful. Was curious how much more involved it would be with the added step of bearings (i've only done car and light truck brakes in the past). Looks pretty straight forward. Curious if anyone can comment on calipers. Looks like it would be much the same procedure as any caliper. Brake bleed would also be a similar procedure I'd imagine.
@Soladaddy
@Soladaddy Год назад
Thanks. I didn't film the bearings this time as its messy, buts its old school bearing set with typical grease packing. There's a rear bearing seal, outer and inner bearings and grease. I have reused seals before without issue. I did have to replace a rear caliper and slightly covered that in another video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PkpULd8Nhag.html Brake bleeding is straight forward with bleed valves on each caliper. Think I used somewhere around 48-64oz to get the whole system refreshed. If not done, the hydro booster really benefitted from a fluid change. It uses tranny fluid and is looped into the power steering system. About 4 quarts was needed. With all that done, the brakes are pretty good.

@@Soladaddy Thanks for the reply. Confirmed bearings/seals with parts supplier. Nice to get it from multiple sources though. Pretty helpful to have some insights before getting into a job. Will likely tackle this soon...and you've provided some valuable info. Much appreciated. You don't happen to have the 7.3 do you?

It’s easier to remove the caliper from the bracket first then take the bracket off

is there a quick list of things i'll need for this, replacing a seized caliper. bearings and hub are already done just caliper is old
@Soladaddy
@Soladaddy 2 года назад
Great idea. I'll gather a list and put in the description.
@Soladaddy
@Soladaddy 2 года назад
Off the top of my head the caliper was two bolts for the mounting bracket (21mm), two bolts to get the caliper off the bracket(17mm?) and one bayonet bolt (regular 6 sided head 14 or 17mm?)

Yes, one on the outside and another on the inside edge. Packing them is easy, but messy. This video covers the bearing job in more detail. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I4oGEQx9V4E.html

The double metal rim goes into the rotor/hub with the rubber lip on the other side.

I found them at Autozone for something like $150 each. They were their lower level brand and the only ones I could find. Sadly they are starting to warp so next time I'll try Napa.

Did the outer bearing come out? The nut is all that holds it on. If the inner bearing is dried and rusted, it might hold the rotor to the spindle.
