As part of the Australian Defence Force’s support to the 2020 Superloop Adelaide 500, Air Force F/A-18A/B Classic Hornet pilot Flight Lieutenant Kyle conducted two spectacular aerial handling displays and a flypast above the race circuit, showcasing the aircraft’s impressive capabilities.
The displays included high speed runs at up to 900km/h, low passes and a demonstration of the aircraft’s maximum turn performance - all while Flight Lieutenant Kyle experienced forces up to 7G.
The F/A-18A/B Classic Hornet can reach a top speed of 2,200km/h and can defend from air, ground and sea attacks with precision guided weapons using a range of advanced, integrated systems. You can find out more about this aircraft at our website: www.airforce.gov.au
Our Classic Hornet fleet is currently on the process of being phased out, and replaced by the fifth-generation F-35A Lightning.
