I think that I'm actually coming to appreciate some of the music from the F-Zero franchise even more, if that was even possible. Particularly that from the original first SNES version and the subsequent F-Zero X sequel on the N64.
My go-to favourite is most certainly "Silence" but now even "Port Town" is grabbing my attention. There is something about those tracks that I absolutely adore - I think it's those high-ends with a vibraphone-style and light synth as well as some incredible drum patterns. To wrap it all up, it is actually mildly minimalistic when it comes to the melody and I do wonder how much the sound effects in the game influences the background music. There are a number of sharp and stark sound effects in the game like crashing into other racers and getting notifications about how many people and laps are left.
Getting back to this track, it was incredibly enjoyable to come up with a brighter section towards the end of the loop, while retaining my quintessential madness throughout most of the rest. It's a very delicate balance between chaos and control and while I feel I might have overstepped a few times with the almost aggressive breakbeat style earlier on, I think it goes rather well with the main chunk of the melody too. Instead of doing complete 1-to-1 renditions, I love to use my creative freedom to go a bit wild, especially when I reduce the amount of channels available in comparison to the original itself.
I don't usually but I did decide to throw in some DPCM here as I feel that it really gives things a boost. You could even say ........ IT'S GOT BOOST POWER!
Anyway, hope you enjoyed this one. Let me know what you think in the comments below as always if you got this far!
All the best.
