Just did this on a 2012 F550 4x4, if you have the heavy duty frame and front axle that top bolt is a bit of an extra pain because the front of the starter is almost completely blocked off for an extension and it can't be accessed from the top. I used a stubby 1/4 drive ratchet upside down from the bottom and it eventually came off
Thanks for this! I have a 2002, same engine and it's doing exactly what you described. I knew I'd need to get under and remove it, and I looked to RU-vid to guide me if there were ONLY the three bolts holding it. Yes, YOU came to help me. I will be replacing mine tomorrow. :)
I'm at the point of lighting my v10 f250 on fire and just watching it burn I've tried for 3 damn days to get the starter bolts loose I've sprayed I've tried shocking the bolts NOTHING I feel beaten
Thanks for the video! Finally got my truck started after sitting for months. Only question is, Do you have any idea why my starter was spinning without starting the truck? I almost gave up, but then I turned the key without touching the starter and old girl fired right up!

Nationalcitysycho d It's a simple warning based on things I have seen. You can lean over a spinning pto and grind metal without safety glasses and have nothing go wrong. Why take the risk? Because you want to brag about how you are old school. Your dad isn't going to be proud of you when you have no arms or only one eye. But hey, at least you can say you do things old school.
