Additional points on the use of AGM-65E:
1) the first press of Weapon Release will activate the laser. This means you can confirm a good track before firing the missile, if you hold it down it will lase and then just fire.
2) "X" on the maverick screen is a good laser track, it's just where the designation spot is relative to the seeker head, a solid square is a good laser track.

The actual real F/A-18C isn't complicated & difficult to use like in DCS. Manufacturer or USN pilots who provided information to Eagle Dynamics deliberately gave the wrong details. The actual just have to designate target using FLIR targeting pod and the missile or bomb slaved to it would just lock & launch. DCS wanted to be realistic but ended up being less realistic than old Jane's F/A-18E flight combat sims. If the real thing is not user friendly being this complicated, US pilots in Iraq, Bosnia, Albania war campaign would have suffered high casualties or bug out after taking hits for getting too close to ground targets.

@@kaisuhina8024 yes, also there's datalink and wingmen are live person. In this game on solo play, the AWACS, ATC, wingmen don't really interact nor help, just doing their own dumb things. Wish ED could add more lively AI instead. My plane was badly damaged & still flying on way home asking for direction, the ATC treated me as KIA and didn't bother to reply

So grateful for the GR tutorials. Maybe its just me, but I can never follow the Matt Wagner stuff. He'll always assume that a key, button, or vital component is known by the viewer. I tried watching a point track video and he ultimately instructed that you should click the point track button. Right.... I'm here because I dont know which button that is. GR videos always lay out the mapping and make sure you know all the details. Fits my learning style perfectly. Amazing!

So what do you think I'm doing incorrectly when I'm at this point 2:47 where I'm switching SOI to left ddi and the seeker head does not automatically uncage? I have to manually uncage it, and then it'll acquire the targeting information from the TGP. Edit: So right after typing this I figured out (pretty sure anyways) that my issue was I was locating the target area using waypoint designate, but the waypoint designate was conflicting with the point/area track information being sent to the mav. There was a URAL on the waypoint marker, but I had selected a tank in my flir. When I shot the mav, I'm watching a tank on my flir, but the mav went after the ural. LOL. Surprise!

Don't need to hold the weapon release button. Press it once to fire the laser, then press it again when you want to release the weapon.

why does the maverick seeker symbol actually split from the TGP symbol in the HUD at 3:27 when launching? Since the TGP is tracking (and lasing) the target, they should stay as before...

Does using the E (laser) provide more accuracy than the F (infrared)? Or is there another reason to prefer one over the other?

I think it's more a question of tactics. With the IR version you can turn away from the target after weapon release. But their optics are far worse than the tpod, meaning you can acquire targets from further away using laser mavericks with the tpod. Also the IR is more a fire and forget weapon, the other requires guidance. That means you can fire the IRs shortly one after another in one pass. The laser version is more fiddly and difficult to fire multiple on one pass.

You might also want to use the LMAV for targets the MAVF can't track. For instance a tank of fuel, a pallet of munitions, or a specific window in a building. Or when someone else is lazing, you just fly to the vicinity, and ground troops take care of the actual aiming ^^

Adding to what has also been said (I don't own the module and haven't used laser mavs but this should work) you should be able to have a buddy lase a target for you, then all you have to do is make sure the laser code is the same, lock it and fire and you won't have to do any of the target searching, just carry the ordinance.

Currently we only have a 2nd detent not a 1st in Hornet. Weird I know.

LTD/R switch only arms for a split second, then turns back to safe. I have followed every step, is there something I am doing wrong?

I had a similar issue. I was able to solve it by mapping the button to a switch. Instead of clicking it with the mouse, try mapping it to a key, button, or switch.

Navy Mavericks all have the large 136lb warhead and are Laser guided (E and E2/L) or IR (F). Air force Mavs are either EO (which suck) or IR - no laser option. The D and H (have the small 57lb warheard (and can be mounter on triple racks) whilst the G and K have the large 136 warhead.
