Paul is going to test to see if it is worth protecting your furniture with fabric protection. He spills red wine on a cushion - one side is treated the other is not. See the difference and know what to do. Thanks for reading.

Thanks so much for the video. I need to buy a new sofa but am hesitant because of our older pets and my sloppy hubby. Now I can buy the sofa with peace of mind knowing I can protect the fabric myself. I actually have fabric swatches I can test the Scotch Guard on, so that will help me decide on the fabric. I am totally looking forward to enjoying my new furniture with less worry. I am also going to take your advice about the extra set of "company cushions".

I just applied some on my couch. I am currently outside waiting for It to air out lol. Something everyone should be aware of Is to be very careful to not breathe It In when spraying. I held my breathe multiple times then went back to be extra careful. It has a really strong chemicals, that's what makes It work good.

Hi Paul, I just bought Scotchgard Fabric & Upholstery Protector for my coats, but can I use this for my car seats as well? Because Scotchgard also has a product called Auto Upholstery Protector, but I am hoping that I don't have to purchase ANOTHER product. Hoping the one I purchased can be used for both my coats and for my car seats.

Thanks for this. Can I ask - if you use Scotch Guard does it prevent dry cleaning from being effective?
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 10 лет назад
Anon Nymous Really good question. In short I would think no, but I have done research on that thought. The purpose of the protection is to prevent any spots from turning into a stain which it does do a very good job in doing. So I can't see how the protection would stop any dirt or soiled area from being cleaned by dry cleaning. I have never had a client say it is a problem. I do know when you clean you do need to reapply or you will not have the same amount of protection. I hope this helps you. Cheers, Paul

Hey there Mike, Really glad the video was a help to you. Thank you for watching and the comment. No to your question I have had others ask the same question. Thanks for the great video. I recently made some slipcovers out of a 100% cotton twill that passed the pretreatment test you demonstrated. Is there a best way to remove other, non-liquid, stains from these fabrics?
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 10 лет назад
Thanks for watching the video. Most spots are food related that usually can be removed with a bottle of warm water and FEW drops of clear liquid dish soap. Lightly spray and quickly blot up with a white towel or with WET vacuum only! Lightly soiled areas can be managed with baby wipes. There are a lot of great household blogs you can go to for any tough spots. All the best and thanks again for watching.

GREAT video. I have watched it a few times over the past couple of years. Now I am ready to purchase a new couch. The Crypton fabrics and the performance fabrics are expensive. Do you recommend one type over the other? Also , do you think its better to buy this pre-treated fabric or to get cheaper regular fabric and spray? Thanks so much for your insight.
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 4 года назад
Hey thanks Anne, for the comment. You have very good questions. Crypton fabric is very good and performance fabric. It really depends on how much use the furniture is going to get. Do you have toddlers or pets. My point being the extra cost might be worth it. Sometimes you can still find Crypton or performance fabric inexpensively online. And yes I do think it performs much better when it is a part of the fabric that is woven in to the fibers rather then a spray on application. All though spray on fabric protection will work as long as you apply it regularly. Look for high abrasion or double rubs when it comes to the fabric that’s indicating its durability. The higher the number the better durability and longevity it will have . I hope this puts you on the right track and helps you along with your project. Cheers, Paul

Hi thanks great video. I haven't tested the fabric yet for moisture penetration but I'm about to have my vintage sofa recovered in Harris Tweed. I have the fabric here ready to go. Would there be any advantage to treating the raw fabric before its trimmed or is there too much wastage for it to be economical. Just seems like it might be easier to spray on the roll as my sofa doesn't have removable cushions. Also does this ever need to be reapplied after time. Thanks. Lee
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 8 лет назад
+Lee Gorecki Hi Lee, sorry for the slow reply this time of year is crazy busy. It sounds like a great sofa with the vintage fabric you going to use. I agree I would wait to have the sofa covered first, then apply the protection. There will be waste the protection if applied first. A good amount of fabric on the market is treated, so do the test if you haven't already. I have never tried using a roller, the trick in ether case is test with swatch of fabric first. Then even coverage especially in high traffic areas top of arms, cushions and top of the backs. You will need to reapply after every cleaning. Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment. Cheers, Paul

After applying the spray can we use the sofa (item spray being applied to) after 3 to 4 hours?
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 4 года назад
Hi Atul, That’s a good question. You can definitely use it after about 3 to 4 hours of spraying, however, there are a few things I would recommend. First, do multiple coats of protect. Second, do it in an well ventilated or preferably an outdoor area. Third, I would let it off gas as long as possible since the spray is quite strong smelling. I hope this helps! All the Best, Grant

What scotch guard do you recommend? Someone told me to purchase commercial grade. Not sure if that’s any different? I just purchased a sofa direct from a designer, I’m not sure if it was protected already. It was from FourHands. I should probably ask. The sofa is beautiful it’s cotton. But I have a toddler and ya know things happen. Our old sofa was destroyed by water alone.
@ucsolutionsgivingmore
@ucsolutionsgivingmore 4 года назад
Hello There Lenah, That is a good question, commercial grade is great,but regular will provide excellent protection under normal use. You can go with either one. You can test the fabric on your new sofa by taking a few drops of water on the zipper area of the cushion. If the water beads up and can roll off then the fabric is protected. There are a few brands out there even bio friendly as well. I would shop around to find the right one for you. I hope this has helped you and thank you for viewing. Please share the video it helps us a lot when you do. Cheers, Paul

@ucsolutionsgivingmore

Hey there Javier, thanks for watching. The fabric content has no real roll in the factor. All fabric can stain if NOT TREATED in the making of it. +prozacania Sorry for the late reply. Not to my knowledge, the product they use might provide better protection. You would need to research to see if this is the case.
