Remmington 96" tall bookcase from Hayneedle is very sturdy and fairly easy to assemble.

She who dies with the most fabric wins! I’m so happy to know that I’m not the only fabric hoarder out there. Thanks for the organizational tips. I saw another video that used comic boards but those don’t really seem sturdy enough. I like the foam core board idea and as a recovering classroom teacher, I’m familiar with using it. Organizing my fabrics is my next big task. Thanks so much for inspiring me.

I think we are sisters from another mother I love your rooms I had a friend help me organize some of my fabric and she had told me I shouldn't buy any more until I sewed this up. I told her to leave lol

Great job!! Suggestion: Anchor the bookcase to the wall at the top. You touched the bookcase and it looked like it would topple on to you.

You are wonderful. And such an inspiration. I had a box of foam board upstairs not being used and I followed what you did with your fabrics. I now have beautifully organised fabrics and can see what I have. Just being able to see the beautiful fabrics I’ve accumulated gives me inspiration. Thank you so much. Please keep the videos coming.

Joy, I love the excitement you show for what you do... and admit that you don't get to projects, just like the rest of us but, storage is a good thing so, if nothing else. Good storage project... got done. Thanks for showing us the details. Yes. Anchor those units to the wall. We need you.

Thank you Mary Beth. I've decided I need a small fabric store in my house. With the prices at Fabric Mart Fabrics, it is easy to do.

Ah! Someone who has more fabric than me! Most of my fabric is in boxes and containers. Wish I had a place to store mine like you just did. Things get way too dusty around here, so I have to keep the fabric covered.

Hey Joy, if you soak the picture fabric in vinegar for 15 minutes then let air dry, it will lock in the color and you can wash it!

"Collet", the part you add to a drill bit to make a stop, for a specific depth. Or they make an adjustable drill stop too. Love your fabric storage. It makes the fabric so mush more accessible, and I love to be organized. Nice to only buy what you don't have, not a repeat.

WOW Joy!!!! That is a lot of fabric!!! That just shows how much you love doing what you do! I have a lot of fabric, but only because my mom keeps giving it to me. I like to sew. I've only made 2 quilts. The first was for our dog we had. Then I made our grandson one and I gave it to him for his 7th birthday this past March. I don't have as much fabric as you do, but I am working (in my mind) on plans to store it exactly like you are doing. I really enjoy watching your videos. You are so inspirational and yet so funny, and I look forward to hearing what you have to say. I hope you are having a wonderful day!!!

I want to store my fabric like that but my boards can only be 13 inches tall. In your opinion would 13 inch tall boards work? Love your videos.
@Joy4650B
@Joy4650B 8 лет назад
13 inches high will work FINE for 45" fabric such as cotton. If you have 58" to 60" wide fabric, the 13" boards will not work UNLESS you fold the fabric another time. You would have to fold it once selvage to selvage (like in the fabric store), for 30" width; then again for 15" width; then again to be 7 1/2" width. OR you could fold the 60" fabric in half (30") and then in thirds (10"). The more you fold it, the fatter it is, BUT it will work just fine. It is SO WONDERFUL to have it all out where I can see it. Hugs, Joy

Hugs back to you Joy and thanks so much for you advice. I don't have very much fabric that is over 45 inches. Can you tell me how wide you shelves were and approximately how many bolts you got on the shelf. That's again. 💞
@Joy4650B
@Joy4650B 8 лет назад
The shelves are 30 inches wide. I got 34 bolts of cotton fabric on one of them. The shelves are 12" deep. My bolts measure 10" by 15".

Great idea. Did you secure the shelf to the wall?
@Joy4650B
@Joy4650B 8 лет назад
Not yet, but we will. It is leaning BACKWARDS into the wall for some reason. We want it to settle into the carpet -- more level -- and then we will bolt it to the wall. We have the screws and hinges ready. If it did fall over somehow, it couldn't fall very far. It would hit the wall in front of it.

I've always said that I could set up a sewing room in a tent if I could get a long enough extension cord and some tables. I enjoy sewing anywhere. I have the same things at both houses, so they are the same insofar as enjoyment. Kitchen and bathroom close by. That's all I need, lol. Hugs, Joy

I've just come me across your videos. You certainly have a massive stock of material. Do any of your kids sew? What are you going to do with it all? I'm envious of all that room in your sewing room. In the UK our sewing rooms are usually the smallest bedroom (and I mean small) or a corner of a bedroom. Yours looks like a classroom. I'd give anything not to have to lay my fabric on the sitting room floor in order to pin and cut. Great video.
