I was using your idea for folding fabric and thought you were so nice to share this that I thought I would tell you how to save money on those boards. Go to the dollar tree the same boards are $1.00 in White and also Black. Thanks.
This is awesome.. I purchased 20x30 foam board from Walmart yesterday. (10/31/20) They were $0.88. /ea. Can't wait to organize Thanks for your inspiration
This is awesome! Love that blueberry fabric. I use cashier register rolls or cores to store strips, ribbon and bias. Yes some are made of plastic, but hey, it upcycling. Better than being thrown out. I then slip a fitting dowel or rod and hand said rod on curtain rod holders. I make leashes and collars, so I have a ton of ribbon. This allows me to see what I have at a glance. You can also use pipe insulation foam to store ribbon or fabric, no folding creases.
Also, little tip on buying foam board...Dollar Tree sells 20x30 sheets for $1 each...that's 6 10x10 boards you get for $1 once you cut them down...and then of course you can make the smaller or larger ones as well. I'm working on making a yarn wall and then I get to use your ideas to organize my fabric stash. I can't wait!!
Love this video. I realized that I had over 250 FQs! No way I was buying the Polar Notions. I bought the foam board and clips from Dollar Tree. I cut mine 4 x 6 inches, they are perfect from the Sterlite containers and drawers. I now can shop my stash first.
I buy them at dollar tree stores, 99 cents store. $1.00 each. I also take my smaller pieces and use duct tape that I get at the same stores for a $1.00 and tape them together to make more boards the same size. I use book cases for my fabrics and I Love your idea about the scraps on the little boards. Thank you. Price wise you can not beat it. They will be raising the price soon so rush out and get them now.
Beth it is great for that. Thanks for sharing. I️ enjoy using multiple sizes as well. I️ will post a video of the new studio soon. I️ like the foam board because cardboard is easy for bugs to nest in. That is also why I️ don’t use cardboard boxes to store things. Not that I️ have any bugs but I️ don’t want to bring them in using used cardboard shipping boxes. The foam board to me is cleaner and still keeps the fabric in place.
Sequoia Amanda, Yes they do have them. Although you can tell a big difference in the quality of the board. But in order to cut them down theirs is much easier than the expensive ones at Michaels. And the clips still work. Oh and wait till you see the new studio. I’m almost done and I love how it’s coming.
With cold weather coming my winter project is to organize my sewing stuff. I had to move my elderly folks in with me so I lost my sewing room. At this point I'm using part of my living room....but I do need to change that so I'm trying to find a way to put everything in my bedroom....I'm gonna use the 9 cube cubbys and this idea will be perfect thanks!
Am I missing something? The foam board takes up so much space in the containers. I'm confused. What's the advantage of using the foam board rather than the comic board cards? Thank you.
Make sure you buy acid free boards otherwise it can damage your fabrics! Comic book boards are so much cheaper plus take up less space, I paid $5 for 100 boards!
i like using the foam board as i can custom cut the size of my shelf. I have a shelf that was made by father in law many years ago that the shelf heights are 12" and 6" deep.
😊 Thanks for sharing , your fabric looks so neat. I've only just found your channel, I've read your "ABOUT" and you said you were hoping to do weekly videos but I was disappointed to see you have only done 5 and this appears to be the last one. Do you think you will be starting any new projects to share, I hope so.😊💖
@@sewingsurprises2785 😦very sorry to hear you've been ill, I hope you are feeling better. I will look forward to seeing your new projects. Best wishes for a healthy new year 💖😊
Christel Janz you are all set to get you stash organized. Do you mind sharing how much you paid? I’m sure others would appreciate it. Thanks for sharing. I️ will be posting my new studio soon.
Joyous Sewing Everything at the Dollar Store is $1, so the foam board is $1 each and the paper clips are $1 each (80 in a package). I actually do not use the foam board to wrap my fabric. I use comic book boards from Amazon. They are about $11 for 100 pieces (7”x10 1/2”). They are thinner than the foam board so take up less space.
Nancy Crosson yes I will cover that. You can buy them at Walmart. But they are getting expensive. I have a design for the ones I make. I am working on the new blog site where you can see patterns and designs. I can also put the patterns for them on the new website for a small fee to keep all this going. New videos are coming.
Joyous Sewing thank you for your response. I am not able to buy from Walmart as I live in South Africa and shipment and customs will cost too much that’s why I asked for the measurements of the boxes.
char myers yes for smaller pieces like your fat quarters or smaller. I will do a video of the studio so you can see my smaller pieces. The foam board is sturdy and lets you see more of the fabric on the edge while in the bin or drawer. But yes plasterboard works too.
Kathy, Michael’s and Dick Blick I have even gotten some from the Dollar tree. Just be sure to check their labels. Some places have them but don’t say they are “acid free” in their ad’s. When I get them in store they are acid free. Hope that helps.
