I decided to make a quick video looking at whether it is true that only one actor was needed to play Little Ricky. What do you think?

My cousin was James John Ganzer. I've never seen this before, but I remember the photo my aunt had from the taping. He passed away several years ago. We grew up together, I miss him. Thank you very much for sharing this, it means a lot to me.

I remember one episode where Lucy had to baysit a boy. Turned out he had a twin brother and Lucy had her hands full. Wonder what ever happened to those child actors 💕

I had no idea the 5 yr old little Ricky had six different actors. I’ve learned so much about I Love Lucy seeing your videos. Thanks for doing the research that makes us appreciate this show even more, Rick❣️ One of the first TV 📺 shows I was exposed to since the mid 1950’s when watching TV was a family affair. ❤️🙏🏻

I knew about the 2 twin baby Rickys not a single one before them! And I did not know about using 2 toddler Rickys (I thought there was only 1, not twins!) and of course I knew about Keith. Good trivia, Rick! Thanks!! \|/

What a great video, 👍. Love the baby pictures and sweet baby smiles! FYI Rick, Keith's family name is pronounced Thib-ah-dough, accent on first syllable. Great French Cajun name found in Louisiana, like Boudreaux and Gautreaux and others. 😀

Putting Desi Jr. in that shot would have been a pretty difficult given that the episode with newborn Little Ricky AIRED on January 19, 1953 -- the day Desi Jr. was born -- and was filmed two months earlier -- on November 14, 1952! Television can work a lot of magic, but it can't extract a baby from its mother's womb two months prematurely in order to film a TV episode. Even if they filmed everything in advance except that one shot of the baby, Desi Jr. was only 10 hours old (born at 8:15 AM PT) when the episode went on the air on the East Coast. I don't think the hospital would allow a 10-hour-old baby to be taken from the hospital to be put on television!

Thank you, Rick. And as you probably know, the reason they continued using these other actors to portray Little Ricky instead of Desi Arnaz, Jr. is that (besides the child labor laws you discuss in your video) Lucy and Desi did not want their young daughter, Lucie, to feel left out if everyone in the family was on television except her. Thanks for all the great work you do. These videos are wonderful.

I remember seeing or hearing a program that said the newborn baby was the real Desi Jr. I stand corrected. The baby did look like him though.

Jerry Mathers ("Beaver") appeared in an uncredited role in the episode "Ricky's Old Girlfriend" Episode 78 in Season 3. He appears in a dream Lucy has. You look up "I Love Lucy Episodes" on Wikipedia and see him listed there.

I also heard that they taped to 2 versions of the childbirth episode which included some clips stating that Lucy had given birth to a baby girl. The show was taped with the 2 versions of the baby announcement in case the baby was a girl. Not sure if they used a baby girl also since it wouldn't have been noticeable anyways. Nonetheless, both versions were sent to CBS in NY and the crew played the "it's a boy" clip after Lucy and Desi made the announcement that same day.

There were actually 7 kids that played little Ricky. Jerry Mathers, yes, the beaver, played him in a dream sequence in 1953.

That has always floated around. Ive read it here and there and no authoritative source, that I have seen, has backed that up. Have you read anything concrete on that? Im curious :)

I met Keith Thibodeaux back in the 80s. He still played the drums but never got rich from his childhood stardom. Rick, I think you may have started a new rumor that Richard Simmons played little Ricky! KIDDING!

I went to church with one of the Meyer twins for two or so years. And his brother showed up once at an activity. It was pretty awesome, and probably the closest I will get to any genuine I Love Lucy history without going to a museum. ;)

I like the show very much. In Brentwood county market their is a candy store and they have a picture of Lucy and Ethel episode when they get a job in the candy factory job. Lucy and Ethel get fired . Their husbands get them a 5 pound box of chocolates 🍫. All the actress and actors were very 💯 percent talented in every episodes of the show.😁

@@ricknineg Words, sure. Names, never. If a name is unfamiliar or could have different pronunciations that can vary with culture, region, dialect, etc., I ask. It's actually a psychological compliment when you make the effort.

The second set of twins, Michael and Joseph, were miserable, whining little brats who should never have been in this series nor any other series. Many scenes were ruined by their crying and whining. The scenes should have been reshot, but retakes were "rare" not because they wanted the show to be "fresh" as they always claimed, but because retakes cost money and Lucy and Desi were penny pinchers--both tighter than Fred Mertz.
