Video FAQ: Skink Oracle on Trogololodon is in fact 220 - 40pts cheaper than a Slann. However, I still don't think he has much of a point or job or role, unless costed so cheap that pure stats for bottom dollar prices would make it worth by default. I could see it finding a good use as a pure Vassal - but not with all that baggage upping its cost (like mount/casting/etc).
@@ShenanigansFox on battletomes with a million units (like this one and skaven) I often skip over non-noteworthy stuff, razordon being generally a neat gimmick without the dps to back it up. Does on average 0-2 damage at range for 80pts and 0-1 when used against a charge so pretty minor for what it is.
@S R This is actually why I'm keeping mine swappable between carnosaur or troglodon. Since I've only just got the start-collecting box, that oracle's the only caster I have. Once I can build up my ranks, he'll likely get swapped to carnosaur permanently. But in the meantime, I want access to at least SOME casting. :3
@@ainzsama1565 I bought 2, just because it was the same price as buying a Carnosaur seperately. I'm now waiting on GW to release new Saurus Warriors so I can expand my army without buying 20 year old models...
The presence of dinosaur riding dinosaur miniatures is the top 3 reasons to collect this army. The 4th top reason is, "no like, I am serious, they have dino riding dinos bro."
Give seraphons and skavens new models GW, and I promise you tons of people will play them, TONS. Because they're both super cool factions. EDIT 2 years later : oooooh boy !!!!
This! Seraphon are amazing but holy shit their saurus models haven’t changed since 6th edition of WFB. Skinks are fine, but holy hell we need a new slann model that isn’t lord Kroak.
They desperately need it too. I have a friend who fell in love with them thanks to Total War and was about to buy a bunch of models but then she saw how much they were and how much they needed a refresh in the sculpts and only got one or too. She was super bummed about the Croksagores.
GW bases their decisions on sales statistics. They have at least a whole department focused on figuring out what releases will sell well and how big profit vs effort they will receive. And that's why even in AoS you'll soon find only space marines.
I’m so glad that the Seraphon lore was retconned so that they are now flesh and blood creatures again. They are all born from the same spawning pools we know from fantasy, but they are infused with azyrite magic until they leave azyr. I honestly think age of Sigmar has the potential to be an incredible franchise if games workshop continues to listen to feedback and improve on the game.
AOS has great potential, but was it worth creating one of the worst stories in games workshop history just to create? That being End-times. They could of given fantasy at least a good send off and create some good will but in the end it only created bad will ,then they just got rid of fantasy, that is why AOS gets a lot of unnecessary hate. With Fantasy coming back tho I do think AOS might slow down a bit. So Old world can have some steam upon release. Tbh I prefer Fantasy over AOS, I miss using my Vampire count army lead by my one woman army Lahmian Lady . And with new armies being added to old world like Kizlev AOS will probs be on the back burner for a bit. Especially if Old world does well.
@@thomastakesatollforthedark2231 Im sure theres plenty of Fantasy fans hoping AOS will get the same treatment as fantasy did, That being the end times treatment out of pure spite. I hope they dont tho. GW wont make the same mistake twice hopefully
I thought the ones bortn in Azyr are literally magically formed by the Slaan while the Coalesced are born in spawning pools once they have left the Azyr and lived on a planet long enough.
I waited for this SO MUCH. Not because I am interested in Seraphon - I just LOVE to listen to your amazing materials. Keep up with good work mate, I REALLY appreciate it! Cheers!
Was sad that these guys were largely ignored in fantasy. Hope they get more lore and spotlight in AOS. I look forward to see where these guys are going.
I used them in Fantasy. We played a seige campaign once and my Salamanders did a pre game shot vs a deathstar unit of Ogres, killed one caused a panic check and they ran from the board. This was the first and only time I've one a game with 1 attack and before the 1st turn of a game.
I can't believe how difficult it is to find a unit channel. . . And not only have you smashed that out the park but the humour is just perfect for it, well done my man
There supposed to be a seraphon warband coming soon so we should be getting a few new models. Although building an army out of that will probably be ungodly expensive
The fact that the models are so outdated and, for me at least, never seem to be in stock at any store I go to has given me interest in using the One Page Rules proxies for Seraphon in addition to the start collecting box I bought a while back because this is my favorite Warhammer Fantasy/AoS faction.
Great; I thought I'd worked out what I was going to start in AoS, but now you've got me looking at Seraphon too. ;D The particular method by which Seraphon armies are selected, constructed and played is highly reminiscent of Warmachine (which mechanics-wise remains my fave wargame, even if it's deader than A-line flares with pockets in the knees). And the lore for Seraphon is soooooo good; probably my favourite in all of AoS. ...I just can't get over how meh so many of their models are. One of the big draws for AoS is that the modern-designed model ranges are startlingly beautiful. Playing Seraphon would feel like I was still playing WFB - and I kinda feel that if I'm to take this dive into AoS, I might as well pick one of the armies that has a glorious modern-design army model-range. What with the latest Seraphon book being a reasonably recent release, I'm thinkin' the star lizards are going to keep looking the way they're currently looking for some time to come. :(
@@ElrohirGuitar I grew up listening to music from decades before I was born. nowhere, gold rush, harvest, rust, etc. And just a lot of stuff from 60s and 70s like captain beyond, allman bros, bowie, who, doors, floyd, cream, queen, robin trower, wishbone ash, tull, elton john, zappa, uriah heep, yes, king crimson, rush. ok now I'm in full nostalgia mode thanks
@@HeyWoah My pleasure. That is still the music I listen to and play most of the time. Great time for music. Uriah Heep was one of my favorites. Take care.
I don't even mind the Saurus models that much. They are great for new players to paint and generally look pretty good on the table. I just wish I could go more mixed/neopolitan with them. That, and if I have to paint any more Saurus Knights, I'm gonna flip a table because they are the worst to get looking only okay.
Seraphon is just the best faction, you can be fighting some Cultists, when out of nowhere a dimensional rift opens, dinosaurs with lazers are pouring obliterating _everything_ around, a psychic flying toad man just **Wom Woms** reality, and just like that the fight is over. They are gone, your army is gone, and the Cultist are gone. You don't know who won, for you do not care; you have witnessed the Ending Credits of the Universe.
@@HeyWoah Manticore. It didn't have it as a save but it had 1+ to wound. Back when AoS dropped there was also some obscure chaos hero that hit on 1+ but can't remember which one it was.
@@ShenanigansFox Not as far as I can see. If you gave manticore claws -2 to wound from debuffs, they would fail on 2s. Which is different than bastiladon armor. If it worked the same, manticore claws would be unmodifiable either as warscroll note or FAQ/designer's commentary, but there's no such notes.
This is really interesting, I've been getting back into the hobby after fantasy died and the commonly held wisdom of the Seraphon/Lizardmen community is that coalesced are more powerful for competitive play. I thought this was interesting given that starborne teleport just seems insane! Great to have options though, had nearly 5000 points in the old days so I reckon i can make it up as I go. Really enjoy your content mate, thankyou for the video
really? no one on lustria seems to think that. even hard core thunder lizards think star born is the better option since with coalesced 2 out of 4 of their allegiance abilities are useless or detrimental and scaly skin only does things when fighting 4ish armies.
You didn’t have to talk about how indigenous cultures were conflated when they designed the Realmshaper Engine, but you did anyway. That’s really cool of you.
Love these vids, just watched all the ones you put out. I have a very small background in 8th, and have been eyeing AoS, and your vids are the things that give me the best idea of what to expect from the factions. So thanks!
I wanna get into Age of Sigmar, and the Lizardmen were my favourite fantasy faction. Should I start with “Start Collecting! Skinks” or Start Collecting! Seraphon”?
Hi new to Warhammer just got into 40k but the aztec dinos made me question if I choose the the right game , any tips. Getting tired of hearing about space marines
HeyWoah not at all a dig. I really enjoy your content. I don’t play AOS, however I do have quite a large amount of the previous Slaves to Darkness models that I got for super cheap since they were old. Keep up the good work.
One “point” of the Troglodon I think is acting as a fast moving and higher wound/relatively tough Arcane Vassal to extend the range of Lord Kroak’s spells.
Right as the pandemic hit, I impulse bought the two seraphon starter boxes because dinos on dinos. Imagine my surprise when I find out they're hella dope
Hey HeyWhoa, I've liked this video very much, as it gives me just another damn good reason to re-base all of my old Lizardmen minis to use them in AoS. I really hope that the new cham skink from Underworlds is soon out. Btw, have you seen the new Rumour Engine? It looks like there's a new Beastclaw mini o n the horizon + Vulture :D
Both MtG and AoS have significant luck factors in them. In your opinion is one of them more problematic to the core of the game? Does one of them express itself in a way that's less "feel bad"?
I think it depends a lot on what each person would consider feel bad. I know that jp ganis has done some interesting math on AOS ELO under various results factors and the better player irrespective of good or bad matchup seems to win 60% of the time, whereas the stronger faction in a matchup regardless of skill only wins 40% of the time. And in games where there is more than a 15% delta of player skill the better player wins 90% of the time. I don't have MtG stats like this offhand, but I would suspect that matchup and deck choice plays a larger role.
@@HeyWoah I guess maybe the feel bads for me come from not being able to play the game. You flood out, you have nothing to do, for example. If you roll poorly in AoS you're still playing, I guess? Moving units and making choices? So maybe for me AoS would be less feel bad.
Yeah, Saurus Knights are a pretty bad kit. Nothing fits right, the riders look old, and the cold ones look so bad compared to the Drakespawn Knights (also riding cold ones)!
So, new player here (coming over from a W40K background so not complete noob), and if I'm reading that 1+ Save rule right for the Bastiladon, then that only applies on a pure dice save. If it's dice plus that spell Big Joe dropped plus my neighbor Charlie's ability plus etcetera, then the 1 fails as per norm. Am I mathing that right?
As long as it's on the profile of the chart where it has a 1+ save, nothing else affects it's armor. -1, -10, +5, doesn't matter. Only way it fails is on a Natural 1. Once he's wounded, his armor functions normally.
Hey that's a good idea for a tier list video :P Easiest to paint "to learn the basics on" - as in not like 'easiest to paint if you're bare-bones lazy', which would be nighthaunt or sylvaneth - but easiest for a new person who wants to learn stuff. I'd float Nurgle and KO up there as well.
Lord croak didnt just become a lich he technically created necromancy before nagash did cause he died went "nah that's lame" and he just DIDN'T DIE and then nuke the demon army that killed him
Could you explain more why Seraphon are like Starcraft units? I didn’t quite follow you on that one lol. I’m thinking about them as an alternative to my first choice, Lumineth, as they seem way cheaper with some excellent Start Collecting, and they were my second favorite faction in Fantasy behind High Elves... their mechanics and play style sound really cool here. Some of the models I’m not a huge fan of, but Skinks, Stegadons, Slann, and other heroes look cool enough anyway.
Mostly that you're choosing specialized units to fight or counter what you expect your opponent to have / sending the right ones out to do particular jobs. As opposed to having an obvious core that you build a strategy around like witch aelves or hearthguard.
HeyWoah oh ok, that actually really appeals to me as having depth for list building strategy is a part of Wargames that definitely appeals to me, like most factions in 40k have.
HeyWoah oh and is it viable to be using both Skinks and some Saurus say like Guard or is it better to put your eggs in one basket to best exploit buffs? I’d prefer to use skinks as my main battle line group and then some Saurus Guard (I like the models)/knights as well but was wondering if that would stretch my buffing too far. I’d probably start with the Start Collecting Skinks! Box if I decided to do Seraphon over Lumineth, which are much more pricey money wise.
Can anyone tell me where it's stated that wound transfers still stack with ward saves as per the new rules? And is it just for seraphon or are all wound transfers stackable with ward saves?
It was the 2nd Super Mario 64 stream, Pikamee put creepy realistic human lips on her model and Heywoah superchatted $5 and asked how much he had to pay to not see that again.
To be fair, I wrote a Seraphon list that has 3 Dread Saurians in Thunder Lizard because funny as hell. Will it top at your locals? Hell no. But you WILL be a true Legend. List: Slann 10 Skinks 10 Skinks 10 Skinks Dread Saurian Dread Saurian Dread Saurian
Me, forever waiting for the new Seraphon book so beautiful Trogs become awesome - :D Me, when the new book drops and I see the beautiful Trogs scroll and points - D:
ty. The Virgo Supercluster is a 33 megaparsecs collection of about 700 galaxies including our own, wasn't referring to astrology stuff. Dinosaurs are cool though.
My recordings end up at about -8db from -12 rec after adding 6-8 gain. If I pump it any higher the distortion becomes too noticeable. I'm playing them back on desktop at like 20% volume and it's loud, and on phone at 80% volume. Are you listening on a taptop? That's the one medium I can't test on since I don't have one.
Fun Fact, the Tau in 40K were created to be the space counterparts of the Seraphon. I don’t get it either but I know which faction I’m playing if I ever come to AoS
I don't know 40k lore, but there is a similarity - I suspect it might be the seraphon copying "the old ones" and that those guys have the necron connection, if any.
@@HeyWoah The Slann mage priests were made in the image of the Old Ones to help them govern reality on the Old World. 40k just has the Old Ones, who made the orks (then the Krork, or biological weapons) and Eldar to help them fight the Necrons and the C'tan star gods about 60 million years ago in the War of the Heavens before current warhammer 40k. :D
