His Steel-types and Ground-type Claydol are obvious, but he also uses the two Hoenn Fossil Pokémon, Cradily and Armaldo, as well as the Unova Fossil Archeops in the PWC in B2W2. Man puts his passion for rocks even in his team as a gimmick and still manages to be very threatening, gotta give him props.

The Thumbnail is a bit missleading for those who don't know Cynthia well enough. Cynthia's family is without a doubt from Sinnoh, and this is hammered on in Legends Arceus that to this point that Cynthia's bloodline is likely from a ancient group of people native to the region long before named Hisui to Sinnoh. Cynthia says her home is a secret, so we really don't know if she's just messing with the trainer or not.

The Kanto/Johto Champion changing hands the most actually makes sense when you consider The Champion and Elite 4 members have to compete with trainers from both regions. I'd imagine that makes for a very competitive league, and it also make sense why Lance is predominantly a raw power trainer in the anime. He has to deal with lots of different kinds of trainers and Pokémon from two regions, and raw power may cover the most ground. As for Steven and Wallace, this is actually touched on in the Adventures manga, but Wallace stepped down as champion in order to take over the Sootopolis Gym after his master Juan stepped down, and also because being Champion would take away from him being with his girlfriend, Winona (still a shame Lisia isn't their daughter). Also, in the manga, every Elite Four member is a former champion. I always felt that Cynthia's region wasn't so much a secret, just that she doesn't tell anyone where she currently lives. Her home is a secret to everybody, not that the region's actual location is a secret. That's just me though.

I think you need to clarify that Nemona is the only Champion fought multiple times *while having the title of champion.* Cause we all fought Blue a *lot*, but he wasn't champion until the last one. Still, great factoid.

However, starting with Trace (and presumably Blue in the original games), the rules were changed so that the Champion was now established as part of the Pokémon League challenge, meaning that the Champion also needs to be beaten now in order for one to become a new Champion. I'm surprised this information seems so obscure. 3:30 I didn't know that. That's clever game design. 4:55 Don't forget Ash beat Iris earlier in the same series. 6:05 I've seen theories that Alder's ancestor is the ancient hero spoken of in Hisui's legends.

Another fun fact about Steven is that he is the only champion that has died and come back to life in any official pokemon media (unless there's some stupidly obscure piece of pokemon media where like Alder kicks the bucket and comes back a zombie because of a Sensu Oricorio). As in the Pokemon Adventures manga during the Ruby and Sapphire arc after using the Regis to try to quell Groudon and Kyogre he literally drops dead after the battle and gets revived because a Celebi did it.

One thing he forgot to say about Lance is the Gym Leader Clair is actually his cousin.

Though in the Nemona section you talk about her being unique as both a Rival and Champion, and being the only one fought several times throughout the game, when Blue exists. I assume that's just a situation of forgetting to clarify you meant "Battled multiple times throughout the story while they are currently the champion" since technically Hau also counts for this.

Leon's Voice Actor in the English Dub is actually KaggyFilms or Cyu or whatever you wanna call him. He also voiced Shallot in Dragon Ball Legends and Roark in Masters. There are other roles he's played but you can look that up yourself.

So uh Wallace isn't actually the first champion to lose to Ash in the anime. The episode where Ash and Wallace battle off-screen was Journey 105 "Reuniting for the First Time!" when the episode focuses on Chloe and Serena in Pokemon Contests. The actual first champion who loses to Ash is Iris. In Journey 65 "Thrash of the Titans!" Iris already claims the title of Unova champion and loses to Ash in a dragon-type-only battle.

I feel Trace is more likable than many think because of the fact he implements Mega Evolution, the use of the Cubone orphan, & isn't a Blue/Gary clone. What holds him back is the game where he is Champion. The Let's Go games are more for those wanting to get into the main games from Pokemon Go, not the experienced trainer.

In Let’s Go it says there was no champion before Lance. It was a new concept when the rival becomes champion, making them the first champion (I would assume this applies to Gen 1’s canon too).

Leon is easily the most fleshed out champion of any pokemon game. We know literally everything about him. Where he lives (even including how his room looks), how he started his gym challenge, which trainers where his friends and rivals during that time (like Sonia and Raihan) and how he relates to them in current times, who trained him, how he got his signature pokemon, how much time he has been the champion, specific details about his gym challenge against Opal (that you can read in her notes) How he influenced the gym leaders and trainers (like Kabu who is stated to have battled Leon multiple times to the point of dropping to the minor league but regained his faith in his own potential after a battle with him, Raihan who doesn't leave Galar despite being strong enough to be a champion to defeat him and that developed an habit of taking selfies as a way to remember his defeats against him, Hop for obvious reasons and even Bea who is seen challenge him to a champion totle defense battle in twilight wings), it's also mentioned how they think of him and its pretty fleshed out how much the other gym leaders aim to beat him in general and which ones are considered in the region to be the closest candidates to the champion title after him (something rarely seen about gym leaders from other regions), We also know that he was endorsed by is Rose and and that Professor Magnolia (who raised Sonia) knows him since his childhood,, how the people in the region admire him which is shown in several dialogues compared to other champions, the kind of aspects that he considers his responsability as a champion (literally saved the region like 3 times during the game), he has a key role in the story not only as the final boss and we also know his entire personality overall (including aspects of him like catchphrases, the fact that he tends to get lost easily, etc) and what happened to him ans what he did after he lost his title (creating the battle tower, becoming the new chairman of the pokemon league and establishing the Galarian star tournament). Not to mention that all the twilight wings episodes relate to him.

I keep forgetting that Alola technically doesn't have a Champion. Kukui and Hau are just the first characters you have to defend your title from and Elio and Selene are 1) player characters so just go watch the protagonist video and 2) are just a way to project myself into the game. Gen 7 only gets like 7 seconds in the video dedicated to Trace, and no one likes Trace.

6:43-7:07: Huh, kind of thought given Iris's role in the anime there be a lot more to talk about for her. 8:55-9:10: Or a third option, Paldea has more than eight Gyms like in the anime, where we sometimes see that Ash's rivals get a few different Gym Badges than him to compete in the same League, implying that each region has more then eight Gyms, possible each region has 18 Gyms one for every type. That could be an interesting video discussing these unknown Gyms.

i think the Lance line is more about Lance being the strongest elite 4 because they called him the strongest of the elite 4 or something like that during johto, so everyone just assumed it mean he was champion like in gen 2

New head canon is Fuji was the previous gym leader. I’d say he dealt a little too shady with team Rocket and consequentially got forced out of the gym leader role by Giovanni after he started feeling regret over the lives he spent while creating Mewtwo. It makes sense in game with the town feeling the most ‘quaint town struck by mighty controversy’ of all the towns- with the alcoholic man laying in the street, it’s proximity to victory road yet lack of a leader, the fact that the original leader doesn’t return after team Rocket’s defeat, and the fact that Blaine and Oak (the other notable scientists on the project) were high ranked trainers in their own right; Each of the three turn their primary focus away from battling and toward maintaining the community by the time period of the games. Fuji seems to be canonically a strong Pokémon trainer, or at least has a portrayed unique connection to Pokémon in all the real-life media. Beliefs and virtues aside he at least has some of the most experience with Pokémon in the whole region, after all who’s to say the experiments didn’t take place underneath the old graveyard tower (later sealed and buried by the radio tower???) and Fuji had to abandon his post to move closer to his work, and now lives as a guru of sorts in Ground Zero to attempt to make amends with Arceus

Your comment at 0:38 made me realise that Giovanni being the one to lose his spot as an Elite Four member could’ve potentially added some great weight to his character. His organisation being dismantled AND losing his powerful spot in the E4 because of a pair of kids would go even further to give him an angle of resenting the newer, better generation surpassing him.

Another fun fact about Cynthia is that gamefreak wants to milk her so much that they deliberately made every female champion other than Nemona after her terrible weather it be persoanlity or battle so that she can be the money cow for generations to come because that woman has no personality other than woman and strong. I'll at least give Geeta points for running the academy as well as being the chairwoman of the league and Dinatha for being a movie star which is much more intresting than being some sort of archeologist who isn't even dressed for the job At least MY champion oc's personality is not woman
