Hello, omg I just woke up and saw the video uploaded, I had planned the wrong time 😂 I didn't I say that Stranger is connected with Indigo, but also that Andals maybe stopped the heavy magic, unlike other religions because their songs (that septas and septons sing) were to the star, and since the star is no longer there, it didn't work as good.
It’s quite bizarre how much weaker the Faith of the Seven is in Westeros compared to actual medieval Catholicism. It has more in common with Anglicanism in its relation to the monarchy
Mostly the early Targaryens taking away much of their power as they were seen as too much of a threat. Specifically Maegor the Cruel and Jahaerys the Concilliator.
Well if you think about that comparison it should kind of explain why, there is no other power in Westeros for the faith the tip the scales for or to back it up against the crown. There’s only the iron throne which the faith grants legitimacy too, but can at most really only influence, depending on the king.
This was really great! I like the connections here, especially with the Mother and Queen of Heaven figures like Inanna and Isis. Interestingly they are both also conflated with Asherah, and that only creates even more confusing connections to Ashara, Lightbringer and the Daynes!
Yes! Actually this is the second part. Looking at the Archetypes of the Seven and what we can get for characters in the story with the same archetypes.
@11:10 Are you telling me that Darkstar IS Lightbringer?!? 😮🤯😆 For real though, I've said it before, but every one of your videos blows mind. I love it. I hope your thesis and exams go well!
Thank!! I have to admit something, I am waiting for your comments on my videos😊😂 You were my first wholesome comment and I have become attached to them ❤️
I think the star crown thing is a reference to Tolkien's Durin I? He gets a crown of seven divinely created stars and becomes the first king of his people. And the whole thing is part of a creation myth, as Durin is one of the first dwarfs created (though we don't know about Hugor's birth/creation, the line "the Maid brought him forth a girl as supple as a willow with eyes like deep blue pools" suggests that the mythology claims she was created)
Could be, I am not gonna lie, I am not as familiar with Tolkien. About the girl, I think she was magical actually, when the say ah the gods gave him a girl, most of the times they talk about a magical woman, that many time is scraped by the story, bc of the sexism. For example in Stannis' story, I don't believe in 5000 years Mel would be mentioned that much. Like Clerence Crabb's wife, she was only mentioned, he was the hero. Or how Medea was the side kick, but Jason was the hero, even tho he was useless on his own.
Nice to see our morning star at the end of the world mentioned for once, jsksjd. If you were talking about the AGoT LCG cardgame when refering to the color associated with each of the Seven, I'm told the artwork isn't canon, but heavily inspired by the books so it's sometimes taken as such. As always, really good work.
I have been waiting patiently for a video on the seven from you! I’ve started rereading the series and I’m so excited to see what I’ll find this time around. thanks for helping keep so many people continually invested in this series
Just found your channel. Enjoying it. I have a personal desire that in the next few books this goes from high medieval fantasy to a cosmic horror opera.
@@CompanyOfTheCat Ah, woo-hoo! You're a proper dork then :) I'm a med nerd. What material did you engineer? It better be the original formula for Valyrian Steel, or I will be sad. (I really, really, really want a sword!) LML just put out a fun new Mythology vid on his @MythicConcepts channel that you might like. Hopefully, we'll have some IRL Myth-oriented streams soon. That way we can step outside the books a bit. I still think you should join in for a Livestream :) You're a natural on/off camera. Just let me know. I have "connections" ;) Happy Weekend! Tschuss!
I will disappoint you I hate, loath entirely, metallurgy 😂. I am working with carbon structures (graphenes, catalysts, filters, tubes, etc.) I have a lot of friends in med, I hope you are holding on well, it's tough, even more now with the global pannini. A livestream would be fun I guess, obviously if the others are down.
@@CompanyOfTheCat Noooooo!!!! Well, at least tell me when we're getting all this "amazing" graphene tech. Hasn't it been "about to change the World" for a while now? I'm very disappionted. It's all your fault, I'm sure :p As for the Livestream, I'll be in touch with the "Others" to get their approval ;)....you may have to give up one of your first born, or something, but I think you can just FedEx it to them. No need to go all the way up Norf yourself. Too cold this time of year. Cheers & Tschuss!
OK so GRRM is a 1960s hippy, right? I'm wondering if the importance of crystals in Fot7 has something to do with that. Like, GRRM maybe planned to have the souls of dead septons go into their crystals, same as the children with weirwoods? Perhaps a plan he abandoned, though...
Crystals are very important in GRRM's "Thousand Worlds" Universe! From the wiki: "The whisperjewels of Avalon are highly esteemed. Whisperjewels are crystals that have been psionically "etched" to retain certain emotions or thoughts, which are thereafter perceptible when the crystal is held by "resonant" or sympathetic minds. Any type of crystal may be fashioned into a whisperjewel, but certain kinds of gemstones retain the patterns far better than others. The strength and clarity of a whisperjewel may also vary with time, and with the degree of skill of the etching esper. Avalon has both a suitable base-crystal and a number of potent Talents. Some less developed worlds are reputed to produce even finer whisper-jewels, but their products seldom find their way onto the interstellar market." They even make computers of them and they can store entire souls! Much like weirwoods when you think about it...
@@CompanyOfTheCat the former is the modern iteration of the latter. There are STILL versions of the original of course. I also believe that they are tied into the faceless men and probably ultimately worship the same being. There's a parallel theory that connects the dawn age civilization to valerya and ashaii, along with a bloodstone---ghis/sarnor----andals one. Some of your videos are kind of tied in to them although your take is unique as well and very enjoyable
I searched them too, the problem is that since most are combinations, the color could be for more than one. After searching for anything I could find I think they are: Father --> Violet Mother--> Yellow Smith --> Orange Warrior --> Red Maiden --> Blue Crone --> Wood Stranger --> Indigo Now, how correct they are idk 😂
@@CompanyOfTheCat I don’t know a lot about Chakras, had a stint of that sort of thing in Highschool, fascination with mythology is what stuck and the rest I mostly forgot lol I would think that if the Father is the Crown Chakra, violet… maybe the Crone would actually represent the Third Eye chakra, purple. Since she leads people to knowledge. Throat chakra, blue. Maiden could maybe represent the Heart chakra, green. Solar plexus, yellow. Sacral Chakra, orange. I personally think the mother could be the Root Chakra, red. The Root chakra is about what keeps you grounded, Jaime was ‘grounded’ in the dream about his mother, likewise Cersei has no fond memories or feelings towards her and is adrift and chaotic. I should dust off some books and read up on chakras…
Traumatised by youtubers... When the phrase 'but before any of these' is uttered I expect it to be followed by 'raid shadow legends'.... The bear, the bear
As a Catholic scientist with a very deep understanding of Christian origins, I find the Faith of the Seven to be sadly shallow. Most religions claim some degree of historical origins. The Seven just seemed to have erupted out of quantum nothingness into a full-blown stereotyped religion with strict soteriology, ecclesiology, and liturgy.
I am not 100% sure if it's shallow, or if we really do not know much about it. Even though it is the religion most people in Westeros believe in, there are enough contradictions, between the Andals' of old Faith and the current timeline, to make me believe that we really miss a lot. We never see many parts from the Seven-pointed Star, and we never see many septons talk about it and there are even followers who do not understand this religion correctly (the 7 faced aspects for example). Considering that all religions in ASOIAF have a magical aspect (Old Gods, R'hollor, Drowned God, etc) and the fact that their holy text talks about sacrifices and visions, I think people do not talk about or even know what the original faith was about 100%. I am fairly sure we are missing important information about it, now if it is something we will find out in the future I cannot say. As for the similarities with Christianity to me are purely on the clergy and structure and not on the faith itself (I'm not the most religious person, not gonna lie, but I am baptized and grew up as an Orthodox) and as all religions, this is very much connected with the social structure prior and not solely on the faith, so as I said in the video we are talking speculations here, I think.
Yeah, while the «Seven in one» is GRRM riffing on the Christian Trinity of his Catholic Upbringing, I would also mentioned the influence of Tad Williams’ «Memory, Sorrow & Thorn» (there is no doubt in my mind that the Sextons in that Trilogy inspired GRRM’s Septons, prehaps together with the Septs in Scottish Clans). The Maiden, Mother & Crone: The «Three Stages of Women», the «Triple Goddess»/«Three Faces of Hecate» The Father, Warrior & Smith: The «Trifunctional Hypotese» of George Dumezil, that the classes and castes of many Eurasian cultures had their origins in a Proto-Indo-European society divided into priest-kings, warrior-aristocracy and farmers-artisans, which also show up in Plato’s ideal state in «The Republic»: Philosopher-kings, warriors and artisans.
gud shit I've been wondering what the connection between the Seven and the Church of Starry Wisdom is. It can't be a coincidence that the great sept in Oldtown is also known as the Starry Sept and the Church of Starry Wisdom in Lovecraft has "Around the pillar in a rough circle were seven high-backed Gothic chairs [...]". Ominous.
Oh! In George's "Dreamsongs", he talks about in his first published novels were about seven evil gods or demons! Very lovcraftian. "Bakkalon the pale child" is one of them!
Yes!!! Can’t believe I never thought of this. The fallen star that created the long night. It split to pieces. So that’s how the Faith links to the long night. So they worship the star, so are they on the side of the Night of the side of day?
There could be 7 meteors. One in the western sea (naga), one on the arm of dorne, one on the neck, one in the woods, one in Yi ti (bloodstones black stone). Maybe that’s why the Andals wanted to invade Westeros so much- because the knew many meteors fell there, and they wanted to go find them because they worship them.
Shiva means seven. Seven is the 'perfect number' that represents all things in Christianity. Shiva means seven in Isreali and is associated with the tetragramaton. Shiva is a god that is the same as Vishnu In Sanatana Dharma. Rainbow colors most humans see are seven.
I know that there's a lot of falling star/moon/comet vibes and theories in ASOIAF mythology... there's enough smoke that there's probably fire there, so to speak. But at the same time, I don't know if we can take the in-world mythology so literally? The important thing is what they represent thematically, I think? Predominantly themes about gender roles and sexism screwing society up.
The Sexism is extremely prominent in the archetypes, obviously because from the stories, even first men were not as severe patriarchal as the Andals. About the myths, I wouldn't take the into consideration that much, if the whole mythology of planetos was not inspired by our world. It's crazy how similar they are and he himself has said that he is talking inspiration from our world. Myths about the moon, for example and the Sun are very similar, same for planets, I doubt he scraped of Venus l, when he has a sword from a fallen star named after her.
