America originally agreed they would adopt the FAL if NATO would agree to adopt it in the American developed M65 7.62x51 cartridge in exchange. America had a lot of political power in the post-WWII era so the rest of NATO begrudgingly agreed, leading to the 7.62 NATO FAL being universally adopted. Then, the US reneged on the deal and adopted the inferior M14 anyways. NATO had originally intended to adopt the FAL in .280 British, which was an intermediate 7mm cartridge based on the idea of the 7.92x33 Kurz used by the STG-44. So, the FAL was originally intended to be a controllable assault rifle like a STG-44, AKM, or M-16, but instead ended up as a battle rifle due to political intervention by the US. Also, the FAL being less accurate than the G3 in-game also holds true in real life. The accuracy of a semi-automatic firearm can be contributed to how consistent the lock-up of the bolt group is every time it cycles. The roller delayed blowback system in the G3 has very consistent lock-up, where as the tilting bolt used in the FAL does not. This is the reason why HK was able to modify the G3 platform into the PSG1 sniper, which was the most accurate semi-auto sniper ever made for a very long time. The FAL, on the other hand, couldn't really be easily accurized, so FN never offered a factory FAL sniper.
@@rickfastly2671 technically speaking, the US does have an Americanized FAL. Search up DS Arms SA58. Also, the SA58 SPR (Basically a FAL DMR) was sent out to US military trials. (and lost to KAC SR25(?))
My first time playing Insurgency sandstorm immediately picked the FAL and I've been running with it ever since, any other gun I use just doesn't feel "right"
I’d recommend going with the 1x okp-7 sight. It doesn’t really obstruct anything and is easy to use, definetley better than the irons. That being said, I always run the 1x kobra. But that’s just a habit of mine.
If you mean the velocity will show then yea it will def show but if you arent hitting your shots then you are either missing completely or have shit internet connection
Best way to use the FN FAL in this game is on semi-automatic, as in real life. Unless you have a bipod to use the full-auto or at close range up to 30 meters (or 50 if you're good). To me, the best rifle in the game.
@@That1Historian it is physically impossible to keep the recoil controlled with this gun, but only while in combat, if you fire it out of combat and standing still ot is controllable even if it has high spread, but you stand still while bullets fly past you it is impossible to go downwards. I've tested it. Maybe it's suppression or some shit idk.
I would have looked to the actual rifles for balancing inspiration. The FN-FAL is more controllable on full auto. The G3 is more accurate and can do some DMR work. The FAL isn't *that* inaccurate but they did try to make it a DMR and it failed. So limiting the scopes to underscore that isn't a terrible idea. Both should do the same damage. If they come across as samey that's because they are.
Either way insurgents have way too many op guns, at least relative to their counter parts, only gun i can think of that is an insurgent gun and functions worse than its equivalent is prob the SKS and the galil ACE, i guess the MG3 too but that depends on playstyle and the Beretta, i can't think of anything else
i wouldn't mind them adding the extended mag back into pvp, 5 points plus another 2 (or they could even make it 3) for an extended mag which is pretty much required in order to use it i think would be a fair trade off
U really dont need extendo mag the problem is since it is super easy to control it would go back to being the only gun worth using in my opinion any skilled player can work past the problems and plus you can use the fal with light carrier a 2x and a reloading grip and still have 5 points to spend else where like nades and smokes however I will say the ak 74 will still stay towards the top should they add the extendo back bc every one has moved towards it the m16a2 or the qbz if they are tryharding
fun fact, the guy who designed the browning Hi power (with a little help from john browning) also designed the FAL. also had some trigger time behind an inch pattern rifle, it doesn’t beat the shit out of my shoulder like my cetme does.
Despite the nerfs, the FAL is still the best option for an Insurgent rifleman. The ttk is significantly lower than anything else in that class, you can even bring down enemies running light armor with a single shot at close ranges. It’ll 2-shot every armor at up to 110 meters, meaning you’ll never need more than 2 shots to bring down an enemy provided you’re accurate. That being said though, the weapon is best utilized in close quarters engagements and shouldn’t be used as a sniper rifle, neither is any 7.52x51mm rifle for that matter (except the mk14 ofc). The only real downfall is the lack of an extended mag, but this can be countered with good general game sense, knowing when and where to reload is essential. Of course though, that won’t really work in Domination since the spawns are instant and random, so you can’t really have a good grasp of the situation on the map. In gamemodes like Push and especially Firefight, the FAL will do a lot of damage in the hands of a skilled player.
@@lambsauce5312 qbz 97 is just a worse akm slower reload similar fire rate theres no reason to ever use it even on demo since the gl isnt bugged anymore
They did before, more horizontal recoil and a point change as welll as the removal of the extended mag in all gamemodes, g3 had the same treatment for maginzines but FAL was given the short end of the stick many updates ago
I stumbled upon up a STG58c lightweight carbine “Fal” made here in southern ca by enterprise arms. (Part of a trade) They call it a light weight carbine w a short barrel. Gas mechanics was weird and the magazine would occasionally fall to the ground “probably because I had to remove the screw by the trigger to make it CA legal. However, shooting abandoned cars in the the local desert for $1.25 per round of win .308 was worth it. Fastest 20 bucks you’ll ever see. Makes for a different desert psychedelic experience. Have a like.
worthy to note that in real life, unlike the G3, the FAL is very rarely used as a DMR/sniper role due to the fact that it's recoil system is way less prone to precision shooting.
Bah i'm not sure , in REAL life i have consistent pling on stell uman torso from 50mt to 400 mt ( my best ) on you tube there are a ton of video with people who shot at 500 or more yard and 500 meters , WHIT IRON SITE STOCK and with rifles that are up to more than 50 years of age, or service !!! Which rifle does the same? AK-47 I don't think so, m14 not if you don't mount an optic. Not to mention that by mounting a TRILUX or a HENSOLT optic, the situation improves even more es Balcan war in the 90's the Croatian sniper have FAL and Hensolt optic check google .For the recoil you have to train on little burst of 3 max 4 shot : is under control in this way !! Of course I'm talking about shots to the torso so we trained and train in military ranges no bullshit to the head risking missing the shot and for these targets it's actually very accurate. The brazilian CAVEIRAS most deadly special force in the world using FAL : long and para model . In games of course real life doesn't matter especially for weapons!! Happy Gaming .
quite funny that in the game the fal is the german version g1 and germany had it adopted but the belgians didnt want germany to produce their own weapons which led to the adoption of the g3
I have an FAL. Being a smaller guy, I prefer the AR. I can carry a twenty and thirty round mag for it for the same weight as one 20 round FAL mag. For a big strong guy, the FAL will work.
1:14 I don't mean to sound rude, but that's not exactly correct. Yes they did some brief experimentation with the cartridge as everyone did, Saive's first prototype *was* in 7.92x33, but everything after that pre-NATO trial in 1951/52 was in .280 British. The Royal Armouries' National Firearms Centre has one I think. Other than that, I enjoyed the video a lot, I really like using the FAL in Sandstorm and I'm glad someone did a video on it :D I wish they'd add the L1A1 SLR back in from the original Insurgency, I loved that thing.
Hey Snipes, Ambush got added to console like about 2 to 3 weeks ago and have been testing the waters but I like it. Do you think the FAL would be viable in Ambush? It could be good with the good ol loading grip but I want to first use the bipod and flash hider and see what I can do with it.
The old fal has the 424pp & 840m muzzle velocity 12 horizontal recoil 30 vertical recoil it was op weapon in the game and then deva nerf that weapon so fucking badly they ruined sandstorm's beautiful rifle...
my father used the south african version of the rifle called the R1 in the border war against SWAPO in Namibia if im correct they used it for a month and then swapt over to the R4 wich is the south african version of the isreali Galil
It is best to fire 4 rounds towards your enemy with this thing. Do not use irons because they block a shitton of your view so instead use a 1x Bipod is best, don't even attempt to put a recoil grip or compensator on it won't help. Honestly the biggest yet most reasonable buff this gun could have is give it a burst fire mode. But for what we have, a 1x with a Bipod and fire in ~4 round bursts, any other attachments are a waste of points and more rounds just makes you less accurate.
Well, the FAL still does do more damage than the G3A3. It's not a major difference, but the FAL can one-shot a Light Armor player within 14 meters and an unarmored player within 40 meters. The G3A3 cannot one-shot Light Armor whatsoever and only one-shots an unarmored player within 26 meters. That being said, you are absolutely right in that Battle Rifles basically aren't the meta anymore, especially since the FAL nerf. Assault Rifles are far more versatile and often have far better performance, especially nightmares like the VHS-2 and FAMAS F1. The VHS-2 is a two-shot to Light Armor out to 92 meters, and the FAMAS can two-shot a Light Armor target out to a whopping 150 meters. I'd also argue that the AUG A3 is probably just a far better G3A3. It can even two-shot a Heavy Armor target out to 92 fucking meters.
I have an NVidia Founders Edition 30 Series graphics card. Max settings on a system that can 'run' them versus max settings on a system that can finesse them are two very different things. In short, RTX.
Epic gun. Always has this iconic image to me of the Paras carrying it in Northern Ireland in the 70s and 80s. It can be used as a DMR but the kick back is nasty. Should you have a top shelf gun pick in this game? I think not. Guns should be useful to a user's play style
Shame about the extended mags being removed. I used to use thein conjuction with AP rounds and bipod in insurgency source. At least then it could be used like what traditional automatic rifle was supposed to.
Idk dude I use the ACOG on it and it’s a tac driver at range, but I also almost always keep it on semi, so that might be it tbh or I’m lucky. But tbh you just have to treat it like a 308 instead of playing with it like it’s an M4, you gotta play slower and pretty much only use semi or else as he said in the video, you’re all over the board. Kind of the same flaws it has IRL and how you should use it IRL
Took my FN FAL to my buddy’s house and his family who actually owns a very large amount of guns had the audacity to call it some sort of Chinese junk. I just laughed it off and tried to explaining the origins and they just kept doubting. Goes to show how much the USA swerved on the platform.
If you use the FAL for a decent amount of time youll learn how to use it at range also it has super easily controllable recoil its pretty easy but than again I have 880 hours so I guess I have that going for me
The recoil can't br controlled, like genuinely i have tested it, even with the joystick pulled all the way down once the bulets fly it just doesn't function. I think it has to do with suppression? I have no idea.
@@wooblydooblygod3857 theres no suppression system in the game at all other than visual effects but I was talking about mainly PC in this comment not console
@@Sheriff_tasty_beans PC kinda cheaps out in the recoil department because otherwise you would drag the mouse off the table. On the other hand a lot of the time console makes some guns have impossible to control recoil because otherwise it would be too easy to control.
It really makes me sad to have not been around during the heyday of this in Sandstorm. The FAL is one of my all time favorite firearms and I get to use so few of them in the games I play. Yeah, no way am I paying 5 credits for that when the QBZ 97 is 3 credits
It wasn't as fun as people make it out to be. If you've played BF4 with the AEK you get a really good picture, just a bunch of sweats using a gun that was accidentally way too good.
@@SickSnipes Oh believe me, I get that. Played BF4 from 2015 to now and Locker was always dreaded if I didnt want to use a shotgun. Yeah, I guess in practice it wouldn't have been all that fun. Theres just so few games that I play that have an FAL, I get really excited
Have you fired a G3? The recoil is far more unpleasant than the FAL and the bolt doesn't lock open meaning you have to pull the _absolute bitch_ of a cocking handle back for each reload. The FAL is a far nicer rifle to use, this is especially true of the Commonwealth pattern L1A1 SLR.
