In this falconry video I discuss the genetic and environmental reasons why so many falcon species are orange or red chested, as well as why certain falcons are regionally red, while the same species of falcon is pale in other regions. I discuss Glogers rule and explain examples of how this rule works.
In this video I discuss old worls and new world falcons like peregrines, lanner falcons, orange breasted falcons, aplomado falcons, bat falcons, Taita falcons, red naped shaheen falcons, barbary falcons, etc.

just like how coral snakes and poison dart frogs are predators themselves but they are still brightly coloured and easy to spot

Great stuff Ben! Merlins are also a perfect example of Gloger'e rule with the suckleyi in the Pacific NM vs Richardsoni in the arid prairie areas.

I think the Taita might be the cutest member of the falcon family. It's a hard choice between them and the American kestrel.

Kestrel is both less and more cute because they talk a lot.

Personally, I have to give it to the American kestrel, but I generally think all falcons have some level of cuteness to them. :p

@@gyppygirl2021 I think the White Tail Kite should be put back into the Falco genus where it used to be and is the cutest of all of God's creatures. I pray mine is well, recently I let him go, I miss my little buddy 😥

Species identification is “sometimes” reliant on conservation efforts in a given area. The most concerning thing is that conservation is limited to definition.
@benwoodrufffalconry
@benwoodrufffalconry 9 месяцев назад
True. And sometimes terms and definitions are manipulated for better or for worse. The Everglades have gotten more protection by calling the snail kite an “Everglades kite” and listing it as endangered, when it is actually an EXTREMELY a common neotropical species. The tiny northernmost population that is barely in Florida is only rare because technically it is the very limit of its range. Similarly California condors used to be called “California vultures”. Public opinion was intentionally swayed to help conservation efforts but intentionally changing the term to California condor (a much more inspiring name)

Excellent Ben,if any falconer wants to train a falcon which is best option a dead lure putting meat on it or a live lure as dead bird attached to creance and an other problem is that when we fly a falcon on lure it doesn't gets speed it doesn't not loops. dives speedy it just circles around lure guy it cames closer as it looks like only coming to lure not chasing lure speedy.I hope you will guide me about these problems. once again thaks ben for a good video❤❤

10:20 you must update the genetic findings about peregrine (although not important for the objective of this video): the unique strong divergences within peregrine, genetically, are brookey falcon and taita falcon.
