Not something for Fallout 2 Fights, so I was pondering renaming the playlist to Fallout 2 Fun or something along those lines. We'll see. But yes, this is not a video involving fighting.
@danielmiller9012 mentioned on one of my videos that he didn't manage to get the Alien Blaster from the Enclave terminal maze easter egg. As I happened to have a save near there, I figured I'd record this. On a side note, to open all the doors in the maze, the sequence is 2, 1, 2, 3, 3, 8, 9, assuming the rooms are
123
456
789
with the northwestern room being 1 and the southeastern room being 9.
One of these terminals can be repaired for some loot. I don't know if the actual terminal is randomized. In my case, it's the terminal in Room #4. The loot you get is determined based on a list of criteria, which are as follows:
1) You need at least one of these following skills tagged: Science, Repair, Outdoorsman, Gambling, Throwing, First Aid, Doctor, Traps, Speech
2) The tagged skills need to be over 100%
3) You only get one drop, and the drop order also follows the list above. This means that if you have Science and Doctor tagged, and both are over 100%, you'll get the Science reward instead of the Speech reward.
The list of rewards according to various Fallout 2 wikis and guides are as follows:
- Science: Opens all doors in the maze (using the terminals afterwards will open and close them as usual).
- Repair: Creates 1 Magic 8-Ball and restores electricity to the floor if you cut the wires so you can cut them again for 1000 xp (the floor doesn't actually start discharging unless you leave the map and come back).
- Gambling: Creates $2000-5000, 1 Loaded Dice and 1 Pack of Marked Cards.
- Outdoorsman: Creates 1 YK42B Pulse Rifle.
- Throwing: Creates 10-20 Plasma Grenade.
- First aid: Creates 1 Psycho, 1 Buffout, 1 First Aid Kit, 1 Mentats and 1 Stimpak.
- Doctor: Creates 2-4 Buffout, 1 Medical Supplies, 1 Poison, 2-4 Jet, 2-4 Super Stimpak, 2-4 Psycho, 1-2 Doctor's Bag and 2-4 Stimpak.
- Traps: Creates 2-4 Plastic Explosives, 2-4 Dynamite, 2-4 Electronic Lockpick MKII and 1 Motion Sensor.
- Speech: Creates 1 Alien Blaster.
As I demonstrate here, my Doctor skill is also over 100% on Easy difficulty. Even if my Speech is higher, repairing the terminal still only gets me the reward for Doctor. Fortunately, you can temporarily lower your skill values by raising the difficulty, so by raising the difficulty to Hard, my Doctor skill now is less than 100%, while my Speech skill is still over 100%. This allows me to get the Alien Blaster.
Also, for reference, this is played on the stock version of Fallout 2 from GOG (setup_fallout2_2.1.0.17.exe). I don't know if there's any difference over any other versions of Fallout 2 out there, so if you still don't get this even with only Speech over 100%, I can't really help you. I also don't know what happens if you don't have any of those 9 skills tagged or under 100%, I assume nothing happens.
