Decided to close out Fallout 2 properly by killing the last bunch of Enclave goons at Navarro using everyone's favourite big gun, the Bozar in a solo run. I've a Lv99 character with almost all the relevant combat perks and ST, PE, IN, AG and LU at 10 and I'm using the Advanced Enclave MkII power armour. The restrictions I've imposed on myself were as follows:
1) No use of items for the run. Not that it's going to be an issue with 999 HP, but crits can hit you for over 100 damage so the fight here isn't completely trivial. Most of my key stats are maxed, so the main one I'd be missing is 2 AP from Jet.
2) I can only use the Bozar and nothing else. I did have more than enough ammunition for it and was pretty sure I wouldn't run out before everything was dead. My Big Guns skill was at 151%.
3) Whenever possible, if there is an enemy in visual contact, I will initiate combat from my current position.
4) No followers, though seriously, they'd just get in the way for the most part, or soak up some fire.
0:00 Just showing off combat difficulty as Rough plus a quick look through of all the relevant skills, stats and perks. The only things I can think of that I screwed up on making this character even more effective in ranged combat is an extra rank of Earlier Sequence and Living Anatomy for +5 damage against all living creatures. I forgot to show off AP, but as I have two ranks in Action Boy and two in Bonus Move, that's a total of 12 AP plus 4 yellow AP just for moving. Also, this character was built to play with Aimed attacks, so I don't have Fast Shot. Not that it matters much. Fast Shot would only reduce the Burst cost for the Bozar to 4. In theory, it means up to 3 shots a turn at 12 AP, but your Bozar needs reloading after 2 shots anyway so that's impossible without using Jet for the +2 AP buff. All it means is an extra 2 points of move or one inventory access to use items with Quick Pockets, which isn't happening in my no item run.
1:10 The attack begins. The lamp post apparently blocks line of sight, so I use it to hide from the Enclave Trooper who would normally have line of sight to me. For the most part here, it's just hiding around and popping out from behind corners to shoot goons where possible.
2:55 I was actually hoping to hit the guy right in front of me with that shot too, but it didn't happen. I don't get the burst cone mechanics. Oh well.
7:16 I'm still surprised the guy to the south here that I'm about to eliminate hasn't reacted yet. No idea what's up with that.
12:38 I was doing so well and here I completely blanked out and forgot about the turret here. RIP my potential no hit run.
13:15 Here begins my extreme confusion at why I keep flipping in and out of combat mode when there's no one else to kill. That leads to some scanning around for someone to kill
14:05 These guys are separate from everyone so I decided to deal with them first. Frontal assault rules, so straight into combat mode. Not that it was any problem at all.
14:44 More flipping out again wondering where that magical last enemy is.
15:46 Frontal assault rules for the last time.
16:39 My only miss this run. Wish I saw the hit %. I'd guess it'd be 95% anyway, but we'll never know. Oh well...
18:50 The last two scientists.
Was fun, never thought to use the Bozar at higher ranges most of the time. The Bozar also has a maximum Range of 35 compared to the Vindicator's 30, which makes it a little better for these things. IF ONLY I DIDN'T DERP AT THAT TURRET. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A NO-HIT RUN. Sigh. Until next time.
