This video exists because I wanted to shoot up Navarro with a fully kitted out combat character. It just happens that the only combat character I have which is fully kitted out is this level 99 character. I did it with the Bozar previously so I used the Vindicator this time. I also wanted to see how it performs in comparison (to the Bozar. Fallout 2 doesn't have a target dummy with infinite HP and armour settings for me to use, so this is my closest alternative. As for the enemies sucking at level 99, this is Fallout 2, not a JRPG. Your character doesn't magically make enemies suck at level 99. You have more HP, more skill points and more perks. You don't need all that. You could do most of what I'm performing here with a level 27 character. You'll usually be there by endgame (my character was at level 28.) You'd have less HP by far but you generally wouldn't get hit if you have more AP and use hit-and-run tactics like I did, and I don't think you'd lose that much either in terms of damage or initiative. And I'm not even using drugs, that would trivialize this even further. If you want an example, I did runs on the Oil Rig with my unoptimized character (ie, worse skills and without most of the relevant combat perks). My character is level 99 so I have all the relevant combat perks to maximize damage output so I can make comparisons when using the different Burst fire weapons. It wouldn't be much of a benchmark otherwise.
Did Navarro, at around 21st level (~140 HPies), with Bozar, nearly 15 stimpacks and very advanced big guns skill. Like in many Fallout 1&2 locations, the starting point is the key; you need to begin the massacre at the place where you will not be attacked by more than 2-3 soldiers at once, and you need to kill as fast as the reinforcements arrive.
I mostly don't use Trans AM because I don't need it for what I'm doing. It's only turned on when I'm finishing off the last enemy with support attacks. The stat boosts are nice, but I don't want to deal with the cooldown, even if it's only 1 turn.
@@mateuszek822 Take Gifted, set : Strength 4 (+4 from Enclave Power Armour and +1 from the Red Memory Module = 9) Perception 8 (+1 from Green Memory Module = 9) Endurance 7 Charisma 4 (+1 from Blue Memory Module = 5) Intelligence 8 (+1 from Yellow Memory Module, +1 from Gain Intelligence Perk = 10) Agility 9 (+1 from Gain Agility Perk = 10) Luck 7 (+2 from Zeta scan from Hubologists, +1 from Gain Luck Perk = 10) I hear you can get more luck with the Pariah Dog event, but I never bothered.
@lurkorrion7156 The only mechanical tricks they had here is what, burst fire mechanics and aimed shots + debuffs from criticals? They don't even have fundamental stuff like delaying your turn, or overwatch. I think they just weren't concerned about making it more tactical. I'd love it if they did. I'm not familiar with Fallout Tactics but IIRC they added positioning (prone vs kneeling vs standing), not sure if they added even more. Maybe Wasteland 3 has some of these options?
@@Kibbitz Yes, Fallout Tactics is more tactical 😅, units able crouch and prone. Also vehicle can be used in operation (battle) mode not only on global map. Unlike F1/F2 FT use octogonal movement grid which is better than these stupid hexes 😤
I have some bad news then, he's gotten killed a lot more. Didn't realise there was a blind chef there though, I didn't hang around to speak with everyone the last time I played.
Yup, that's accurate. They get teleported to afterlife. Won't work oj floaters though. Bastards have high electric resistance. Need to use gauss or plasma.
I think it's fun, but it is flawed in many ways. Still, everyone records either the Dark Alliance series or Champions of Norrath, so I decided to record this instead as it gets no love lol
Nice lol. That part is always funny but it's annoying in combat against people with guns since it gives them distance to shoot back at you, assuming you didn't kill them or knock them out with that attack as well
You want to know something funny about them just to search for this same video, what happens is that I didn't even have to search for it because RU-vid put it first in my recommendations
i would rather live for a thousand years on a planet with no sun, populated only by carnivorous beavers with broken glass for teeth than play this waste of electricity you call a video game. great vid otherwise
Never liked gatling weapons, except Gatling Laser. It was fun cutting them in half 😈 I whiped out Navarro with Turbo Plasma Rifle, H&K G11E or Gauss Rifle. Always prefered to snipe them from a distance. Needler Pistol is also fun. Surprisingly does a lot of damage.
He’s right, it’s all fun and games with your OP gear until you get owned by a critical hit, so it’s always best to take cover. Those plasma turrets also deal good damage, even with APA mkII.
Damn dude, what a slaughterhouse 😅 I finished the game 13 times and I never tried that. In my case it's Sulik who does the work for me 😅 I think he singlehandedly killed all of the Enclave soldiers close to the final boss battle, very long time ago though. Nice job!
Thanks! I mean, there isn't really a reason to shoot up the place unless you failed something really badly after all. I kept Navarro untouched for messing around in postgame like this with my current character. It is the closest way I get to relive Arnold Schwarzenegger's Commando in turn-based RPG form lol. I tried shooting up the whole oil rig instead and it was way too long for my taste. Navarro is about the right size, though a few more enemies around would be nicer too.
@@Kibbitz yeah I know, it was one of the first playthroughs - we had no idea how to get the pass from the president, so we just killed him - then Sulik took care of the Oil Rig. Your Commando playthrough was nice. I imagine you w/o the armor and using knives on top of the minigun next ^^
Y'all posting F1 and F2 builds while we finished the game by pitching different creatures and factions against themselves in random encounters and looting both sides as we observed enemy behaviours and levelled up in 1998. Those games were to be savored not sped up.
This is a level 99 character with ALL the relevant perks (except for Living Anatomy which I could have swapped for Stonewall or something equally unimportant). There is NO build. This is not a build video, I don't tell people how to build a character. All I've done in the description and the start of the video is to list what's on this character in case anyone asks. As for sped up, I don't know what the hell you're talking about since this isn't a video either about how to power up quickly in Fallout. I left Navarro untouched just so I could mess around with it in post-game and shoot enemies, like a videogame version of the end of Schwarzenegger's Commando or any 80s action movie of choice. That's why I have an entire series of Navarro runs. Because it's fun. You're also making some grand assumption that people who are messing with builds didn't already spend hours savouring Fallout in whatever way you're imagining and are looking to do something else besides play the game normally. And even if they were? I don't see how this is any of your business. Let people play how they want to play.
There's basically 3 types of magic in this game. There's regular Runic magic which is regular spellcasting that you see in most videogames, there's Illusion/Summoning magic that creates monsters and there's Possession which controls enemies, though I don't think any enemy can use Possession. Illusion and Summoning are effectively the same thing, they generate monsters based on the amount of SP you spend. However, Illusions cost half the SP and the monsters they generate cannot cast spells, and there's a random chance they'll just disappear every round. Not efficient at all for using in combat, but the enemies don't have to worry about SP recovery after all. Demon's Winter is available on GOG, you can just wait for a sale.
I remember when I was cleaning up Navarro as a kid, back in the 1998 or 1999. It was me and last couple of guards, out of ammo, almost out of stimpacks, with broken arm, etc. Suddenly my dad enters the room and says its 7am and I need to go to school. Ah, sweet childhood...
It's my favourite turn-based RPG to shoot stuff in, so I go back every and now and then. Underrail is way too hardcore for my tastes as a game and it only got the real big guns recently in an expansion, and I didn't like Wasteland 2. I might try Wasteland 3 some day to see how it compares.
They can't target you from the position I took, so yes, you end up having unlimited turns. As I stated in the description, this is an attempt to do this fight from my previous frontal assault video. It's a part of a challenge run, which means I'm not allowed to use the turrets (I already destroyed them on the way in anyway) or ally myself with the troopers. If you were playing normally, yes, the optimal strategy would be to use both the turrets and the troopers against Horrigan. I've updated the description to make this clearer.
bruh, your character is fine, but you can do so much better: - use jet. You can do 3 shots a round instead of 2. Also you can find jet antidote. - use psycho - use Buffout - never reload weapons from game screen. You can reload from your inventory at the same time as using stimpacks. That will save AP. - instead of leveling more, you can do combat armor implants. Use fandom website and wiki/Fallout_2_implants section - play more around corners, start every round with max HP. The moment you lost is when you've started round with 191 hp instead of full
1) use jet. You can do 3 shots a round instead of 2. Also you can find jet antidote. Yeah, I know about it. I just really didn't want to be relying on Jet this early, but I might honestly have to given how rough this fight is. Also, I'm not getting 3 shots a round with my Burst shots costing 5 AP (I don't have Fast Shot), and I don't feel unaimed regular Gauss Rifle shots are worth the 4 AP except on unarmoured targets. My traits are Gifted and Bloody Mess. Jet also only lasts 5 minutes? Not sure how time works during combat, does the countdown stop? I'm not worried about addiction after unless it affects me as soon as the effects of Jet wear of, this is just a run through the Enclave Oil Rig, so as long as I win, it doesn't matter if my character is a crippled addict. During my one successful run, I did all the chems during the fight with Horrigan (and yes, with Quick Pockets during combat too). 2) use psycho 3) use Buffout Buffout looks like it'd be nice for damage resistance if it works. I'm not sure the rest of the stat gains mean that much though? I have all stats near full, unless I get bonus HP from temporarily buffed Endurance too. 4) never reload weapons from game screen. You can reload from your inventory at the same time as using stimpacks. That will save AP. It's a self-imposed rule. I know how to abuse Quick Pockets, I just feel it's too cheap for my taste. It's not as bad as infinite healing for 2 AP with Quick Pockets, but reloading both guns for 2 AP instead of 4 isn't how I want to play this. 5) instead of leveling more, you can do combat armor implants. Use fandom website and wiki/Fallout_2_implants section I forgot implants were a thing, thanks, I'll go get some next time! 6) play more around corners, start every round with max HP. The moment you lost is when you've started round with 191 hp instead of full I was trying to play around the top corner. My problem with that is that I have no sense of what I can see reliably from there due to how the transparency bubble around you works when you're near the wall, so I keep making mistakes. I've not had time to move elsewhere because the enemies kept coming. The HP stuff, like I said, I only allowed myself 1 item use per 2 AP, so that's 1 Super Stim Pak per 2 AP as if you had it equipped in hand. It's a self-imposed rule, but I really don't want to just item spam from inventory to win.
@@Kibbitz well, you have some your own personal rules so it's a bit tricky to give good recommendations, but in two words you have 2 ways: 1) easy way: use two jets and psycho. Most important is psycho it gives +50% DR so with your APA, you will get 90% DR total and enemy shots with gauss rifles and pistols will not cause big problems to you. 2) hard way: don't use drugs and get combat armor implants (all 4 upgrades) and win boxing in new reno. You will get 10% DR from implants and also 5% DR from Prizefighter, so that's +15% total which is permanent
@@plohish1337 Huh, you can use Jet twice for extra buffs? That's interesting. Anyway, thanks for the input, I'll give it a try once I have the mood to try again
I did, but RU-vid blocked my 2 hour 22 minute video because of a copyright claim on 3 minutes or so of the video. I'm not interested in disputing this, so I'll have to see if I can figure out a way to mute just that portion before uploading. Or I dunno, I might record a better run instead. We'll see.
@holydiver5196 Welp, the editing didn't work. RU-vid just copyright claimed the same thing for a different section, so unless you want to watch it without any audio, you'll need to wait till I succeed some day. I uploaded a sad 10 minute failure to storm the barracks if you're interested though lol
