The timing on this, I was just installing New Vegas with Viva New Vegas after 7 years of not playing it

Vanilla is also fine, dont worry about crashes, played this game on a 2060 and a 3070 a couple times without major issues. If you never played NV, I would highly suggest trying vanilla then upgrading to modded if you cant stand the older graphics

Surprisingly this modlist has a version for the Tale of Two Wastelands mod. If I hadn't already made a list for myself I would be using it. TTW is the best way to play Fallout 3.

This is wonderful. Yes I did play it when it came out and it was one of my favorites. The janky animations were always a hard sell. I would LOVE to see this game fully realized in an engine like Unreal 5. What a treat that would be. Yes I know it would be a boar of a task, no need to comment that, but you know it would look and play amazing even if it was still the base game but with all the upgrades.

I remember playing this game a long time ago and decided last night I was gonna buy it on Steam for 10 bucks and mod it . I suck at modding so I went with a collection of mods that has a huge instructions list like a step-by-step one. It was like 600 and some took like three hours. worth it, totally worth it. And I usually cannot ever go back and play games that are 10 years older or more unless we’re talking Nintendo because I never get past how bad it looks good for what it is

If anyone is getting into FONV using this modlist, I came across some issues with it in game. Improved Lighting Shaders was causing black flickering on my floors and turning screen blood yellow, so I had to download DXVK. It also didn't download the script extender for FONV, so I had to get that one as well. Rest has been smooth sailing.

Todd can hear you when you say New Vegas is the best Fallout game. Todd doesn't like that. It makes Todd 16 times sadder. Todd will come to your home.

Jsawyer Edition is awesome in that it caps the level to 35 and forces you to actually "Build" a specific kind of character, rather than allowing you to become a god of the wasteland. However by the time you do like 1/3 of the game not including DLC, there isn't much character buidling after. I recommend Viscous Overhaul, with max level 40, 60% more exp for leveling up, -4 skill points to spend. This will extend out the Jsawyer mode we love, and adds some extra hardcore goodies like tweakable scarcity on food, ammo, meds, ect. to make it as hardcore as you want.

this is great to know after the discontinuation of the Mojave Express Guide which was - to my knowledge - the only modding guide endorsed by or affiliated with viva new vegas, which is in itself already the best starting point for new players who want to play the game as vanilla as possible and players who plan to mod the game.

The discussion around issues with vanilla New Vegas are always so over-the-top and the intro here is no different. I play vanilla New Vegas all the time on PC and it's perfectly functional aside from some minor bugs and occasional performance weirdness. To say "It's just almost not worth playing the base version" is such a disdainful, incorrect thing to say about it. Let's hope the remainder of the video isn't ruined by such poor perspective.

I remember playing fallout nv back on release, and then playing fallout 3 afterwards, and being blown away how much better fallout 3 looked even though it was older.

Another great reason for mods and why i mod new vegas is that new vegas has such an interesting and immersive world that modding the game can really enhance the experience! Heck just being able to look down and see my characters body is really cool. That being said 800 mods seem like a lot hehe i only have 231 mods and with all of those my game is completely overhauled and modernized with modern gameplay and graphics.

as someone who played fallout nv for the first time in 2024 I would say this is 10000% inaccurate. The game is very much stable and playable on modern hardware with 4-8 mods depending on if you want bugfixes as well. you do not need as huge modpack like this or viva to enjoy the game. vanilla for the first playthrough made the experience so much better Edit: Sorry its 10 mods ( UIO, JIP LN NVSE, 4gb patch, stewie tweaks, nvtf, fnv mod limit fix, onetweak, actorcause save bloat fix, engine optimizations, YUP)

Personally I'm not a fan of these overalls, I feel they change too many things, and most aren't necessarily better, just different. I use the Viva New Vegas mod list and with it, I get a stable game with extended lods and a high refresh rate experience, with no stutters, texture improvements, a ton of game and engine related bugs fixes, modern mechanics with custom animations and "simple" stuff like sprint, lean, "dual render" scopes and much, much more. For me, it's the definitive way to play FNV in 2024, it's just FNV Remastered.

i always play these types of games fully vanilla for the first time, then after that i go back and mod the crap out of it. I always like to see how the game was meant to be played in the eyes of the devs

Geez, I've got to dive back in after seeing this. I was doing a FO3 play through the last time I had time to boot my PC up. This will probably be my follow up now aside from my unhealthy relationship with War Thunder.

I always love seeing what people are capable of doing in video games. Me myself never used a mod in a game and played new vegas and fallout 3 like 20 times and enjoyed it everytime..but still cool to see whats possible in such old games

About the lighting - it's NOT a wrong lighting. New vegas went with movie desert yellow. This mod compilation went with actual desert - it's hot, it's painfully sunny, it kinda washes subtlety out of colours and a lot of scenery is dictated by the dirt under your boots since same dirt will be the main actor for all the atmospheric effects.

I love how the mods basically turn it into 76, further proving that 76 is most definitely the best game.

Interesting in the divide on this one. I like both games tremendously. I was a little disappointed when NV initially came out, viewing it at a mere update from 3 that seems like it could've been completed using DLC. Dialogue and story are definitely a win on NV though, such better character depth. Playing F03 FWE now and loving it more than ever. Great video, thank you for putting in the time to get this content out there!

One critique I can see at 5:43 is that the modded version removes some of the atmosphere or fog the vanilla has. I like that extra depth, make it look hot and humid.

ngl I kinda love the look of original new vegas. love the fov being more zoomed in and classic gun animations; would love to try running the minimum required mod pack to see how it play

Acting like the vanilla game "isn't worth playing" or "won't run on a modern PC" is a stretch. It has issues, yes, but all older games do. Totally playable.

Something about LevelCap's voice when describing anything is so soothing and trustable. I have said this before but it must be said again... his descriptions are like a good friend explaining a game but not the kind who only tells you the good. The kind who hands over the controls after the boring tedious parts and lets you have fun!

I played through Vanilla Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition last month on my Steam Deck Oled. (2nd playthrough, but it's been 10 years since I first played it.) It looked and played well at max settings. There may have been a crash or two and an occasional stutter, but it looked and played great at 60fps limited.

If this looks like too much, I recommend looking at the Begin Again modlist. It remasters NV and 3 all in one.

So when are we gonna get the 500+ real life mods to raising kids?

I'm a novice at modding and I spent easily a week of my free time just trying to get 90 mods to work on my own, it was brutal. It's crazy how many mods will just break other mods if you don't have more advanced skills😂

I don't own a PC so I can play the base version of a game... The more a game is loved, the more love it gets. Even Final Fantasy 7 for PC is basically a brand new game when modded.

WIll definitely be watching this modpack closely, the pack page says there will be an update in July so it might be a good opportunity to try it after the update lands. That said, the bleak, desaturated lighting is definitely not great and I hope that's something that can be tweaked closer to vanilla as you said..

The problem with modspack for BethGames is, was and maybe always will be: It runs for 25h without problems and than starts crashing over and over again. To a point you just concede.

It's absolute bollocks that it's "not worth playing the base game". I've modded the game on and off over the years and still happily play the base game with barely any bugs or crashes.

If you guys want a “definitive” modlist check out Begin Again. This modlist changes WAYY too much in my opinion while Begin Again focuses on bringing modern gunplay/movement to the game while keeping what made New Vegas.. New Vegas.

Been playing vanilla new vegas and it's honestly better than i remembered. Arguably better than fallout 3 and fallout 4

i hope they remaster this game. story is amazing its easy money if they take the time to perfect it. graphics and gameplay were shaky at launch so its hard to mod it up. remastering NV right before season 2 of the fallout show would be next level marketing. everybody would be even more hyped to watch.

A remake for New Vegas would straight cash for 'THE OVERLORD'.

This is an absolute nightmare to install. Needing three different programs and requiring you to make fake hard drives is just excessive. Not to mention having to individually download all 800 mods once you install Wabberjock or what ever its called. Definitely not recommended. 🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣

You're grossly overexaggerating when you say the vanilla version is unplayable. I played it half a year ago for the first time, fully vanilla, and I had a blast. In the 30 hours I spent in the game I had maybe like 5 crashes(no progress lost) and no bugs whatsoever.

My total mods I add for Fallout NV for now is a quarter of this total mods. So my journey is not over.

Weird, don't get me wrong, I love mods and have been a part of Skyrim's since 2013, but I haven't had major issues with vanilla FNV. The occasional infinite loading screen, but that's about it. I've done two full playthroughs switching between my desktop and my Steam Deck and it was more or less flawless, especially on the Deck with the locked 60. Yeah, higher framerates can cause some weirdness, but still nothing gamebreaking. Edit: Although to be clear I'm still a massive proponent of modding NV too, I've done modded playthroughs as well. I just don't think vanilla is as broken as many make it out to be. F3 is infinitely harder to play without mods in my experience.

I recently played FNV for the first time (had it in my library forever but just hadn't played), I remember in goodsprings when Cobb comes to fight and there are a bunch of NPCS outside, my game ran at like 10fps the entire time haha

I used to run this with the Oxide ENB, dunno if it's still on Nexus but that ENB really transformed the game for me. (complete with HD texture mods of course)

Been playing that game for about almost a month, but as watching this RU-vid video with all these mods now I’m wanting to start over again and play fallout new Vegas with these kick ass mods. Idk how to put mods in the game so it’s going to be my first time doing mods cause I never done mod’s before in my life. How do I do it🤷‍♂️.

cool mods but you are absolutely wrong at the start on it not being worth playing vanilla, as long as you have one or two of the necessary mods, i think the ram cap and maybe smthn else, its still an incredible game and worth playing

EDIT: ok, got to the part of your video that talks about the modded lighting. Yeah, that's really bad compared to vanilla... Sorry, did you get the modded vs vanilla captures backwards? The lighting in the "modded" clips is so flat and boring compared to the vanilla... Not to mention the FOV is so high that you get a fisheye effect (which, of course, is easy to adjust). Also, I don't remember the vanilla game being that bad... I played it back in 2014 or 15 completely unmodded and didn't have a problem, and back then I didn't have a crazy computer or video card.

Game is decade old it needs something of this level to keep it relevant to a lot of people.
