It’s an hour-long unpleasant cartoon that’s nearly impossible to follow, and the huge gap between seasons didn’t help. I still haven’t tried season 2 and I enjoyed the first.
@Gorlak53 honestly. I don't know. But the fact it has 2 seasons and a.. movie type thing they're calling an episode, got picked up for 2 additional seasons in the middle of season 1 makes it surprising to me that it is behind something like Mr and Mrs Smith.
Her inability to hide her biases just ruined it for me. She spent the entire Barbenheimer run bashing Nolan, and during awards season straight up called him an asshole for not giving Barbie enough lip service. I unsubcribed after that. She's a fan girl above anything else.
Anyone who does "Trailer Breakdowns" I just don't bother with. What is there to breakdown?! It's a TRAILER. Half of it might not even be in the movie. It's like those channels which "explain" endings. It's ART guys. You are supposed to work it out for yourself and interpret! There is no objective truth as to what it means!
Just a small correction, Parasyte is spelled with a ‘y’ because it’s a South Korean series based in the same universe of the beloved anime/manga series Parasyte: the maxim. I know you can’t research everything so if anyone is interested in the info here you go. Also characters from the anime make a cameo in the show it’s pretty neat.
equally small correction, the original manga was just called Parasyte, the anime by Madhouse was called Parasyte: the Maxim, not maxsim. Here's a fun fact--Hayao Miyazaki wanted to adapt Parasyte at one point,
I wouldn’t call it a small correction and more of a maybe Dan should have taken 2 seconds to look up Parasyte and he would have seen the reason it’s spelled that way
@@vegas_party_animal7737 here comes the guy.. like I said in my comment he can't research everything, he already needs to do so much to make graphics and what not then review so many movies and shows it's possible he forgot or didn't research one thing. He is also human you know.
If you ready for an emotional but satisfying roller coaster, give “Queen of Tears” a try - it is the show that has pulled me into and exposed me to the quality of not just Korean dramas but Asian dramas as a whole. The acting is insanely good. But be warned - it is sometimes gut wrenching.
Love the nerd numbers! I also find myself taking a couple notes because I sometimes miss when things I want to see are added to Netflix. Keep 'em coming.
Happy to get confirmation Shogun did indeed do well! It's such an amazing series in every conceivable way. Bluey is Art. Don't mention it in the same sentence as Cocomelon.
Thanks for the vid! When it comes to the show charts. Would it be interesting to see a graph to see the movement of the shows (instead of a serie of weekly charts) and maybe one chart for the month? It could be more diverse visually and we could see the picture from different angles.
Hey Dan, just a suggestion to consider doing streaming charts more often so there’s a smaller time period to go over in each video. I love your charts analysis but when there are this many weeks the charts really start to blend together, especially the Nielsen ones since there are 2 different charts for each week. It’s hard to focus after like 20-25 mins 😅
Bluey released a 28 minute special, The Sign, on April 14 (the second of three long delayed episodes released in April that closed out the staggered release of Season 3, which began all the way back in November 2021), so I would attribute the sudden jump to #2 to that, and I suspect that Bluey gave Fallout some stiffer competition the following week (unless Fallout viewership fell off a cliff, and I'm pretty sure it didn't, I would be surprised if Bluey takes the #1 spot, but I would guestimate it had close to 30m hours watched for the following week, considering the size of the spike for just one day). Even as an adult Bluey fan, I was surprised how much the episode was talked about online, with Ryan Reynolds (or at least his production company--I don't know how much direct involvement he had) even making a parody live-action commercial for real estate website Zillow, narrated by one of Bluey's voice actors (Dan Brumm, the voice of Uncle Stripe and brother of Joe Brumm, the creator of the show). The third episode, called Surprise, was released on April 21, and despite being leaked over a year ago in India, it had a massive surprise ending (for those who stayed away from spoilers) that also created some buzz and debate for the show and its future (in more ways than one).
Next time you do this, I'll be curious if Bluey "blows up" in the week of April 14th, because that was when their special "The Sign" -- a longer 30 min episode vs the normal 7 min shows -- dropped and it took over at least a sector of the internet for weeks
😅 0:13 Funny you mention Mother's Day. Minutes ago, I wrote about an experience with my mother. In her native tongue, she seemed to say something related to tripping/dropping dead. I'm not sure if it was because I was leaning on one leg or because of my facial expression after waking up.
The wasteland village Filly built in Austin, Texas, for the SXSW Festival in March to promote the show was a nice touch. I got a Nuka Cola, a Vault 33 pin and had fun with all the actors and sets.
Feel like this might be a little too long between updates. Appreciate that Nielsen runs slow and also that stuff happens. Not riled up or anything, but also this one was a lot and with so many weeks things can blur together.
Not surprised. While Fallout not perfect its the best video game adaptation. While Last of Us is the better written show, it keeps it game aspects completely out (especially the lack of various infected, as if its ashamed of it) Fallout feels like im watching the game. Season 2 soon please!
What I really liked about the Fallout show, compared to most other adaptations is that it's a new story. It adds a new tale to the world instead of retelling an existing one. On top of that, it also succeeds in making it feel like your archetypal Fallout narrative. Like you said, it's flawed but I would definitely love more adaptations that expand on the universe they're set in. Like how cool would it have been if Netflix had made a series about one of the other avatars instead of Aang? Or if they made a Last of Us spin off about completely new characters in that world? There's a lot of creativity and new stories to be had even in existing IP's and they should really capitalize on it.
The last of us is only better written because the source material is barely a game. Game adaptaions suck because there is usually no real narative to pull from.
I feel like we’ve all been taught that serious drama is somehow “better” than other genres in terms of quality, but I think Fallout perfectly executes its lower brow genre content in a way that imo exceeds what was accomplished with The Last Us’ adaptation.
@@adamwhite4858 There is some dark and dramatic moments in Fallout but the difference is that its balanced with great humor and irony. It does not take itself too seriously like other shows.
What makes Fallout so good is the fact that its the total package. From the lore to the special effects, Fallout delivers but What makes it really special is the acting, which is my opinion is Emmy worthy. Both Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins deliver excellent performances that are funny, dark and heartbreaking (Episode 8 alone should be given to Emmy voters for consideration for Purnell and Goggins superb acting).
It's common knowledge that the masses have cheap taste lol. I mean you know how many friends I have that have strong opinions on Hollywood but watch all there shows on firestick or websites.
I don’t know if there’s many Disney+ numbers but there’s a (minor) obsession with Doctor Who viewership numbers on the BBC (overnights then iPlayer numbers added later). But I’ll be interested if they release the global Disney+ viewership numbers.
Thank you for the info dump Dan! Wow, I knew that "Fallout" was popular but I didn't realize it was THAT popular. Interested to see how it does over the next few weeks. Looking forward to the Box Office numbers tomorrow.
Wish there was a more visual way to see tje relative sucess of a show/movie in these Streaming recaps. Like how much of a difference was Fallout's premiere vs other top shows on Amazon? On Netflix?
Dan please do a special video on Bluey, this show is literally taking over the USA but nobody is even talking about it. You could just talk about the numbers if you like and not watch it. I just think its going critical mass!
Dan if you liked physical 100 I suggest you check out Siren. A very cool survivor-ish style game show where teams of different professions (police, firefighters, military, etc) play an intense version of capture the flag.
Love the nerdy data, one question on normalizing on the watch time per episode. Is that normalized for episode length? I thought at one time you were dividing by the amount of run time of the episodes, but in this data it seems like the divisor is the number of episodes instead. Isn't that going to privilege longer episode length shows too much? I thought the idea was that if two shows both have 1 million viewers you want them to be equal and don't want the one with 20 episodes to seem twice as good as the one with 10 episodes, but if the divisor is number of episodes instead of length of run time, now if one show has approx 30 minute episodes while the other has approx 1 hour episodes if both get 1 million viewers the watch time per episode will privilege the longer show. Seems like the denominator for measuring should be the sum of the episode length of all the episodes so neither the show with the longer episodes nor the show with more episodes would do better just because of structure in the normalized metrics. Also, if there is a chance for some version of this to go even deeper on some of the other categories that would be great. Like I'd be interested to know how the various original animated series stack up (Arcane, Blue Eyed Samurai, Invincible, Castlevania, Inside Job, Love Death + Robots, Bojack, She-Ra, XMen 97, Star Wars Bad Batch, etc.). Maybe once or twice a year to round up that aspect as well?
It's by number of episodes and it's a general metric. I'd love to get into the weeds on every single thing, but it's just not possible given the somewhat limited range of people who are even interested in this data. The time spent wouldn't be worth it. Every metric has its own blind spots and disadvantages, which is why I present several. The hope is that looking at everything in totality begins to make the picture clearer.
The last of us was good, but completely lacked the video game aspects of the show It only showed infected people 3-4 times throughout the series, and to be honest the story is not that cohesive meaning it’s more like one-off episodes Fall out wasn’t perfect but it was very video game accurate and had 3-4 storylines with main characters running at the same time interconnected
As disappointed with the writing choices from Fallout tv show, I'm excited for season 2 simply for Walter Goggins and I guess Lucy. I will be more sad they hate Fallout 1,2, & New Vegas
Can't wait until the day that Cocomelon is completely forgotten and gone. As a parent I hate that show because it is completely incapacitating kids watching.
I watched the cold open of 3 Body Problem, then saw D&D's names in the opening credits and immediately turned it off, never to return. I hope the rest of the North remembers...
It’s actually good, if they don’t go off the rails in the coming seasons and just adapt the damn book then we are fine. I kinda didn’t like that they just explained the twist of the first book directly to the viewer but understandable since many viewers wouldn’t get it otherwise.
@jeremyamac Yeah, I just don't want to see these guys rewarded for what they chose to do to GoT, rather than hand it off to a showrunner who still gave a damn.
Would you ever add Variety's top 10 charts to future viewing charts? First heard about them from Grace Randolph, but she ditched them since Variety only covers original streaming content, but would be good for current shows and movies instead of waiting for Neilsen.
I’m glad Fallout was successful, I had a lotta fun and enjoyed it! But it just reminds how bad Paramount did Halo 😕 a Halo series done right would’ve had the same or probably more success than Fallout
Quality obviously isn't needed for views, sad to see that Rubbish avatar up there in the chats. Show had some good moments and changes but some bad. overall ChatGPT definitely wrote the script, especially for that god awful take on Azula.
People mindlessly browse and watch whatever crap Netflix feeds them. Barely anyone is actually interested in seeking out challenging, creative, intelligent films or shows.
Viewership for the first season indicates lots of people were interested in it and talking about it. See also Rings of Power and Wheel of Time. The falloff for future seasons will be STEEP
@@DanMurrellMovies Just break out the 🔮 and do the box office charts on Thursday for the subsequent weekend. You'll beat everyone to the punch. Think of the views!
Moana’s popularity is insane. On average 3 million people (presumably families) just throw it on and watch it, once a week on average, like every week of the year. I assume they just need a random movie to throw on to keep the kids happy but I wonder how that came to be specifically Moana for so many people. There’s a lot of good animated kids movies out there, and most of them are on streaming.
I mean encantos been on the list a lot too, I was surprised at how popular Moana has been on streaming too, but I think that's just a product of timing and age groups. And that it is a good movie with good music. There was a period where I as a small child apparently watched lion king 3 times a day, and that was back before DVDs. If U get the kids with the right movie at the right age, they'll re-watch it a million times. I think the fact that the male and female main characters in Moana have about equal importance to the story and no romantic relationship also helps make it more appealing to more kids, sometimes kids refuse to like something because it's "for boys" or " has kissy face" or whatever
Could you possibly do a breakdown of overall viewership of the Rebel Moon movies? It seems like some were trying to push the it’s a big hit narrative but I don’t know that the actual numbers support that
My gf recommended it to me the week it came out. That's how I knew it was going to be a big hit for Netflix My working theory is that women are the tastemakers for Netflix hits while guys/dads are the tastemakers for Amazon Prime Video
i think its funny that some people keep screeching about week-to-week releases are better, even as other streaming services outside of netflix are adopting binge models on their top shows. i guess they have internal data showing that binge models are superior
Funnily enough it seems Xbox and Todd Howard (Head of Bethesda) didnt believe in the Fallout show too much otherwise we woulda had something release along side the show. Its just another indication how down in the gutter Xbox is as a whole.
I'm curious if Gen V applies as their own show or contributes to the boys numbers. I consider it an extension of the show, but technically it's a spin off. If it is considered an original show, then I'm surprised it's not in the top 10 since the Boys is so high on the list. You'd think the companion show would crack low top 10.
Watching Streaming charts is generally how I manage to find out about several shows and movies I don't think I would have heard about otherwise since Netflix releases a zillion shows and doesn't really advertise for any of them unless they are the most costly shows/movies they produce
Lol at that Reaches Back poster. It's just a labelling meme. Shocked at how huge Damsel was as well, I didn't hear a single person talk about that movie online or in real life.
