That was a quality buck (not stag), probably 5 yrs old. From my experience you are much better not to try and call, all you get is a satellite buck. Far better to quietly stalk in, but watch out for the does which are usually about 20 or more metres away from the resting buck.
In my opinion it is a mistake to call a fallow buck. All you will attract is satellite bucks. The master bucks purpose in croaking is to call hot does to him. It's not aggression as in Red stags or Sika.
I'm not sure how familiar you are with hunting, but fallow deer are roughly the same size as whitetails. Anything less than .243 and you'll likely just give it a flesh wound.
@@rockinryebread6435 what are you on about? I cull red deer with a .223 and take shots from over 100m, and yes a .22 mag will be fine as long as you have good shot placment and not a long shot.
Yeah sure you could kill one with a .22 mag if you were a crack shot, but everyone makes mistakes and you wouldn't want to get a gut shot with a .22 mag. If you got a gut shot with a .243 it'd do far more damage and die far sooner. Just gives you more room incase you miss. Plus you've got way more range ect. But yeah sure you can kill one with a .22 but I don't think any ethical hunter would recommend you go out and try it
@@russellcoight1718 people shouldnt be hunting if they are gut shooting things. they should be at the range spending time learning how to shoot. every fallow ive shot has been with the 223 and all have dropped mainly from double lung shots.
