They did what they should've done based off the call. The girls sounded frantic and at his time isis was a big issue. I commend them for actually calling it off after they figured out it was a lie and nothing prejudice to still lock him up bc that's what you expect if other cops normally. I don't agree with them breaking his stuff but they did what they had to do they weren't overly violent like most officers, and they did the right thing by letting him go. Some of the officers were being rude but the main officer seemed to be doing it all professionally just like the narrator said.

They might still have been able to detain him until someone from the State Department or something arrived. But unless those cops personally witnessed him actively trying to murder people or something, shouldn't that have been where their authority ended? I've pointed this out on other forums as well. And to this day your comment is the closest I've seen to an answer. It almost seems like people are bent on pretending that element of the situation doesn't exist. The immature girl that made the 911 call definitely should have been charged, she lied through her teeth and showed no remorse for what she did after the fact when she realized she was incorrect. And the fact that her family doesn’t hold her accountable and chose to play along with her is just as despicable and disgusting! I hope she no longer has a job there and I hope she remembers this every single day for the rest of her life. She honestly almost killed a man, he just had open heart surgery and possibly a stroke from the stress caused by this incident. It’s sickening to know that she got away with it. Obviously, the misuse of 911 is illegal and is an arrestable offense and I’ve seen numerous videos of people being arrested for it for stupid reasons, but this chick did it, lied about everything she saw and still got off scot free. I hope the man is doing well and is in good health. I know the police station offered their apologies but this immature, entitled little girl and her family both need to sincerely apologize to this man and his family for wronging him and accusing him for nothing.

I don't know. She was just scared and so was the other woman with her. They put 2 and 2 together and came up with nine. They took a fear and added a concern to it, no doubt colored by the images of planes flying into buildings and the black and white images of POL-eece baton charging young protesters out on the white-house lawn. Rather than call the cops direct, she called her sister because she knew her sister was a blabber mouth and would turn up the volume on this thing to 11. Why would anybody want to convict anyone like that. My only regret is that the hotel receptionist wasn't wearing a t-shirt ambalzoned with the legend "I'm With This Idiot."

The sister didn't know. You can hear her stop talking to read the text from the receptionist. The receptionist made it all up, and the sister was calling because of genuine fear. It's 10000% on the receptionist. How could the sister know any better? If my sibling texts me someone is pledging allegiance to isis I'll take them at their word and call it in. The receptionist should without a doubt have been charged, no question. She lied and she knows it. When a subjective BS sounding call like this comes in, dispatch needs to ask “what exactly did he say?” “Uhh duhh well I don’t know but muh sister’s like really scared cause pajamas and cellphones, and she texted me...so 911 OMG terrorist right?” Could have cleared up the obvious shit show before cops were sent out.

@@stevenobrien557 Why do you think the sister didn't lie on the call when the attendant clearly says that she never told her sister that this man was pledging his allegiance to ISIS? Or are you saying that the sister who called in the report acted in good faith and the attendant is the one who lied to her family? Either way, how does that affect the police officer's embarrassment when he realizes that he and his peers have been misled? Edit: Steven is correct that the sister didn't lie; the attendant lied to her sister and the sister just passed in the message. Still, the officer was clearly embarrassed and not looking forward to dealing with the fallout of the lie no matter who the initial liar was.

Not to mention lots of tourists get disposables in the US or other western countries because getting a separate SIM or upgrading your coverage to include international coverage can be more expensive, and their everyday smartphone would be used for everything but calls and texts like using google in the hotel lobby on their wifi

They caused him to have a stroke, and a cursory glimpse of the situation could have informed anyone with basic deductive or critical thinking skills that this was a foreign traveler trying to find lodging and probably dealt with suspicion the entire time he was in this country full of lunatics.
