Probably why the sherriff wants to tell the courthouse employees to not do that. You really shouldnt cry wolf at a courthouse using a panic button, those are used and generally assumed that something so bad has gone on that a traditional call to law enforcement wasnt an option.

@@ryvvyr7767 You forgot the risk of the situation escalating if a less trained cop interacted with the auditor. O, he was shot, well, he was "combative" and did not listen to orders. We all have seen those stories, how fast things can get out of hand, especially as this was a emergency button being pressed for a courthouse. Costs charged? More like job loss if you do not understand what a panic button is for, and what the consequences can be.

@jfb7201
@jfb7201 4 дня назад
And that's what we need everyone to remember is that we vote for the govt we get at the local level. Voting for a good sheriff or a good mayor who hires a good chief of police can what kind of law enforcement you get in your area. Our state legislators did a lot of these things but until they do our best bet for good law enforcement is the local voting booth and who we vote for can decide what kind of law enforcement officers we get. We have an issue with what happens when officers mess up but the best defense against that is to have law enforcement officers who don't mess up in the first place and that's decided by who leads them.

QI protects REASONABLE error and any reasonable person would not have hit that panic button over a guy filming and not breaking any laws. I told the officers to call the city attorney because what they were about to do was unlawful and that their qualified immunity would not hold up because they have the opportunity to verify. They didn't call and arrested me and the charges were dropped and their QI was revoked. Mistakes made because of bad training or bad policy etc... QI will protect them. Mistakes made because of ego and feelings and simply being a control freak and of course out right stupidity like in this video QI will not protect. @scottierasberry4449 12 дней назад
“The vitality of civil and political institutions in our society depends on free discussion… it is only through free debate and free exchange of ideas that government remains responsive to the will of the people and peaceful change is effected. The right to speak freely and to promote diversity of ideas and programs is therefore one of the chief distinctions that sets us apart from totalitarian regimes. Accordingly a function of free speech under our system of government is to invite dispute. It may indeed best serve its high purpose when it induces a condition of unrest, creates dissatisfaction with conditions as they are, or even stirs people to anger. Speech is often provocative and challenging. It may strike at prejudices and preconceptions and have profound unsettling effects as it presses for acceptance of an idea… That is why freedom of speech, though not absolute… is nevertheless protected against censorship or punishment, unless shown likely to produce a clear and present danger of a serious substantive evil that rises FAR ABOVE public inconvenience, annoyance, or unrest.” ❤

Adrenaline rush as you don’t know what’s waiting for you. It takes YEARS to manage that kind of adrenaline professionally. Improper handling of that is the reason why so many officers make crucial mistakes in the heat of an adrenaline rush. You aren’t thinking clearly and your body is hyped up in fight/flight mode. The chief and the sheriff arrived calmly and ordered their subordinates to stand down. They even ordered them to back off outside, allowing for their officers to calm down. I commend them both for immediately diffusing their own adrenaline and allowing the individual to explain the situation. It shows why they’re leaders of their respective departments. They even educated everyone involved. I am in shock.

Imagine your sister or niece minding their own business at work when some guy comes in with a camera, bothers them with questions that have nothing to do with their work, and then becomes weirdly accusative of them closing the office door. The dude was being a weirdo. It's not unreasonable that a woman, stuck in an office with nowhere to go, might feel threatened in that situation. Not like, immediate danger fight or flight necessarily, but definitely anxious about what that dude might do next. Is he going to come back? Is he going to get loud or hurt me? Would you tell those girls, "Hey, ignore your gut feelings about threats and leave yourself vulnerable to weirdos because what they're doing in that moment is technically legal." I wouldn't. So yeah, in the situation in the video it was a bit overkill, but not outlandishly so.

@@NewToCool74 can't say that and then not give any info lol why do you think that? As a member of the public you arnt required to argue just cause someone wants you to if he needs help sure help him but you arnt required to simply be their debate buddy

Cops pointing guns at people is ( somehow) not a threat, but a citizen asking questions is being " combative".

Asking the same question multiple times despite already getting an answer actually is combative.

That's somewhat a small portion of what an auditor is supposed to do. That is using speech to try and get employees of the government to use emotion instead of rationality. Which at the end of the day is a great thing. They put on full display those who cannot operate on a professional level and let emotions cloud their judgement. Basically without auditors cops, and gov officials would retain the bad apples.
