@@GeminiladyJackson-xq6hc I agree the whole world was much better in the 1980s for reasons that today's young people will never understand! These entertainers were 10 times better than most of the the talent we have today, by far !!!!!
Yes really. I've been given to understand that Natalie and Jim's wife Henny were best friends together, just like Dawn Wells and Dreama Denver were best friends.
i seen that. that was nice of her.i think his health at this time was really bad but at least he was a good sport to show up. would have been nice to have bob denver too
Watching Mr. Backus beginning his "departure" was heartbreaking. May he and all the others who have passed on rest in peace. True legends. All of them.
I want to warmly thank whoever posted these awesome clips. I had no idea that there were people from my favorite shows competing for their respective charities. It was so sweet to see them all in action, supporting each other. It brings me to tears since it seems like that kind of comraderie is all but gone...
Yessirreebob indeed, and there were similarities between the two shows. The most striking similarity was that both shows were canceled by the network without notice after having been promised a fourth season and at a time when they were both number one in the ratings. Boggles a person's mind.
Actually, the robot's voice was done by Dick Tufeld. Bob May was inside the robot making it move. May was also fantastic in the way he created a "body language" for the robot... popping its head up when surprised, etc.
Thank God we have RU-vid now and you can watch all these TV shows anytime you want anywhere you want you can watch them on your smart phone your iPad your high definition 4K TVs is just so great and all the shows an hour available on Blu-ray so you can join him anytime anywhere
I used to love watching "Lost in Space, and I never knew who was inside the robot. When I was a little, I had a crush on "Guy Williams. He's a good-looking man. Seeing the cast from these old shows brought back great memories of when I was a child. XO
I've always adored Alan Hale Jr. and his dad, Alan Hale Sr. Alan Jr. always had that amazing happy smile and outgoing guy next door personality. Just loved him!
@@GathKingLeppbertI I just saw that movie. I recognized him the moment I saw him. I had heard that prior to GI, he had been in westerns and action movies.
A classless actor would not embrace the fact that his whole career was made from being lucky enough to get that part; certain other(s) in that show didn't like being stereotyped as "that actor who was in Gilligan''s Island"..in other words they take themselves and/or their acting too seriously. Skipper simply embraced it, enjoyed it and was thankful for it. That's class.
@@millionsofrecordsernieb7587 I agree. During the breaks from filming, Tina Louise avoided the other celebrities on "Gilligan's Island." She didn't like to be associated with that show.
@@lynettepalecek3141 to be fair, Tina was super-model hot on the show and could never live up to looking that good. Still pretty shallow as us fans would have loved to see her anyway. The woman who played Mary Ann was blessed with some amazing genes and looked good decade after decade.
@@ravenfn831 Dawn Wells, who played Mary Ann, took excellent care of her health both physically and emotionally. She won the beauty contest as Miss Nevada in 1960 when she was 22 years old. Dawn Wells was a very sociable person for her entire life. When her mother got Alzheimers Disease, Dawn Wells took care of her until her mother died. Sadly Dawn Wells also got Alzheimers Disease. She was diagnosed with it 2 years before she died from Alzheimers Disease. The msm is hiding that fact.
@@jrcasselman He had been suffering from the disease for years before he died. I still remember how the disease affected Glen Campbell and Mohammad Ali.
I remember watching this tournament when I was a kid in 1983. So great to see it again, particularly with Dawn Wells recently passing. This is a time machine. Thanks so much for the post.
And look how warmly she hugged everyone after the match. I've read that she was as sweet in real life as her Maryann character in the show. Alan Hale was also reported to be a super nice guy.
I remember this when it originally aired in the summer of '83. That summer my parents were in Europe, my older brother was in NYC & my younger siblings & I were in the care of our maternal grandparents.
so loved lost in space they played it in the early 1970;s when i was around 8yrs old im 50 now god time flys i miss my childhood friends so much love you guys i still think of you
Wonderful People!! Gotta love how they included Jim Backus . They treated him so well. on this episode!!! He had Parkinson!s at this time. They treated him so sweetly.
That was a great family feud episode. Mary Ann and the professor always come through. Just like on the Island, the professor was the one who was the one who helps everyone. I could tell that Jim Backus was hurting. He was a great actor and had a great career.
I believe RU-vid is quickly becoming the greatest, most powerful TV channel of all time. Remember, one of the biggest things on the planet a few years ago was Gangnam Style, and how did we all get to see it? You Tube....
Marta Kristen played Judy and Judy the Chimp (who was also on Daktari) played Debbie. If you think of it there are three tv shows represented on the stage as Richard Dawson was in Hogan's Heroes. Unfortunately, along with Richard none of the Gilligan's Island cast on this show are living but June, Angela and Marta from Lost in Space are all still with us. 🥰😍🤩
wow. All the wonderful people from those shows that I grew up watching. Loved them all. Sad that so many of them are gone. To the cast of those shows, thanks for the memories.
Yes, and strange that he didn't position hiself as head of the family! Guy never admitted it, But Jonathan stole his thunder! He was the great Zorro! RIP
+djkrushinphx He was, indeed, a great guy - and a much-decorated World War II hero, too (up to and including the Purple Heart, for his heroism as a bomber pilot in the South Pacific). After a "wartime marriage" which lasted only 5 years (1943-1948), he was happily married "till death do us part" twice: the first time for 30 and a half years (July 1949 until his wife Kay's death in January of 1980; two children) and the second time for almost 32 years (May 1982 until his death of kidney failure on 16 January 2014; one stepchild). Check out his IMDB profile. His movie and TV career spanned from 1950 to 1997. While he appeared in a lot of movies (both big-screen and made-for-TV) and TV series (mostly dramatic) over those years, GILLIGAN'S ISLAND was the second and last TV series in which he played a regular series character for a number of years. The first had been the Western drama BLACK SADDLE, in which he played Marshal Gib Scott, and which aired 20 episodes on NBC (on Saturday evenings) as a mid-season replacement show from January through May of 1959, and which aired another 24 episodes on ABC (on Friday evenings), running the length of the 1959-1960 TV season. He co-starred with Peter Breck and Anna-Lisa on that series. (Yes, he did have a recurring role as an Assistant District Attorney on OWEN MARSHALL, COUNSELOR AT LAW on ABC in the early 1970s, but that was only 8 episodes over the span of 2 years. And yes, he did appear for a while on DAYS OF OUR LIVES in 1980 and on SANTA BARBARA in 1991, but not long-long-term.) I've seen a couple of movies from very early in his career in which he had an uncredited bit part (RANCHO NOTORIOUS (1952), in which he plays a Chuck-A-Luck wheel spinner early in the movie, and THE TURNING POINT (1952), in which he plays one of the heavies (I think); the latter film was, and hopefully still is, floating around somewhere on RU-vid and is well worth the watch). I have also seen him in a substantial credited part in the 1954 Western RIDE CLEAR OF DIABLO (which stars Audie Murphy (also a much-decorated World War II hero, serendipitously), Dan Duryea, Susan Cabot, Abbe Lane, Paul Birch, Jack Elam, and Denver Pyle); this movie may also still be floating around RU-vid somewhere, and, if it is, it is WELL worth watching!
Smh classic tv with my dad, I loved it and miss it too. Gilligan's Island, Sanford and Son, The Ropers, The Jeffersons, classic Feud, Three Stooges, GoodTimes, Sigh....💖I miss my pops and shows like this.
I don't know... I thought Angela Cartwright looked pretty damn good. And whether it was genes, or plastic surgery, Natalie (Mrs. Howell) held up pretty well.
When game show hosts wore three piece tuxedos and pocket watch and lapel flower!! Class... Notice also Natalie has her quizzing glasses she used as Lovey Howell! Sweet.
Give it up for Jim Backus. Declining health but still put on a good show. Thanks for posting. Really neat to see all those stars again. Yes, the Professor was king at the final round. Love the enthusiasm.
@@succulentcranberry Natalie Schafer really looks great for 75 - she constantly lowered her age to keep in work. Jim would have been around 71 I think. He seems to be in a constant state of bewilderment, but every time he still pulls out either a good or funny answer.
Dawn Wells is still around, and still looks amazing. While "Ginger or Mary Ann?" may have been a serious question back in the 1960s, today it's no contest!
A modern day show of 5 Dr Who doctors versus the NCIS or Hawaii50 team would be interesting. Or an old Star Trek v new Star Trek, sadly without and Leonard Nimoy and Anton Yelchin.
lost and space and gillian"s island, were my two most favorite shows growing up,i remember lost and space being on every wensday night at 730,how i loved that show
This is still great to watch. Guy Williams was still so handsome after all the years later but sadly Jim Backus seemed a tad disoriented. Very older gentlemen by then but still great to see him on this show.
Jim was rather advanced in Parkinson's by the time this was filmed. And I noticed Skipper had a few moments of confusion in a couple of the games. But all in all they all were wonderful from all the teams. :) And seeing "Robot" Bobby May was indeed a new revelation for me.
This is a true story, and it may be hard to believe, but when Gilligan's Island was cancelled, Alan Hale cried like a baby, and it's because he loved the show and the cast so much, and I know that we all loved that terrific show and cast also.
Alan Hale Jr was a great guy on and offscreen. I was stunned that he still looked great after Gilligan's Island was cancelled. But Mr. Hale took his role as the Skipper to heart. Sherwood Schwartz (the creator and executive producer) said that Mr. Hale would visit children in the hospital dressed as the Skipper.
RetroGuy76 that’s the sweetest story. I actually got choked up reading it. Alan’s wife said that he was so incredibly grateful for the Skipper role and felt like he had been born to do it and be it. Quite the opposite of some of the other cast members who resented being type cast for life, especially Tina Louise.
@@bbqking7410 What a lot of people don't know is that June Lockhart also played the little girl in the Movie A Christmas Carol, I believe 1938 it's my Favorite version, also Bob Cratchit was her Father, Gene Lockhart, Gene also played the judge in Miracle on 34th street, and it also was her real Mom, and June's Daughter Anne Lockhart played Lieutenant Sheba in the original Battlestar Galactica series. one of the lead roles as a Fighter pilot. June was always one of my favorite actors and her father was awesome in his movies.
Guy Williams, at the time, like George Reeves' Superman -- will always be the original Zorro for me. He was also part of the cast of the classic TV western Bonanza in 1964 as Ben Cartwright's nephew. Cast, for a brief time -- the character was written out after 5 episodes because of production politics and B/S. It's a shame because the episodes I saw Guy in were quite good. I never figured out the true politics crap -- he was a name actor, lots of success on his acting resume, handsome and recognizable, probably could've carried the show himself if Lorne Greene wasn't the father. I sometimes wonder if his Argentine good looks would've competed too much with Pernell Roberts (who had hair in 1964) and Michael Landon. Maybe they pressured the producers not to have him join the cast. His 6'3 muscular frame certainly competed with Dan Blocker -- so they could've been Cartwright relatives.
I just came across this set of videos. So glad I did! What a joy to see the actors from some of my favorite TV shows as a child. What wonderful people they appear to have been. Sweet memories to always cherish.
I grew up watching both shows and wouldn't have missed either for the world. What I think is wonderful about this FF episode is how they treated with utter kindness Jim Backus. He was already very ill at this time.
Yeah, and Tina Louise blamed the show for ruining her career by typecasting her. If true, that's a shame. In the three years she spent with the cast, she got a chance to do all kinds of quirky skits and stuff. She was actually a talented lady. It's too bad her career ground to a halt after Gilligan's Island.
@@williamanthony9090 that's what she says, but everyone who gets typecast can do that to themselves to a certain extent, too. their first mistake is not embracing it, and in tina's case you can clearly see the ego involved.
This show went down hill after Richard he was the best TV host, him and Mr Alex on jeopardy both were top notch entertaining guys. Miss both. 🇬🇧 will never be the same again 💔 😔 🇬🇧
Funny, I recall reading once where Billy Mumy, I believe, during an interview, said that Lost in Space was always being compared to Star Trek. He went on to say that it should have been compared to Gilligan's Island especially after the 1st season where it went from being a somewhat serious show to comedic farce. Nice to see Guy Williams; RIP to him and all of the other great actors/actresses from both shows there who are no longer with us.
DALE COOPER There is actually quite a few similarities between LIS and GI Both were CBS mid sixties series. Both had pilot episodes weren't used but which contained footage added to the regular series run. Both premises feature 7 stranded people, 4 men 3 women. Both had one married couple. Both ran 3 seasons (1 B&W/2 color). Both were successful publicly but got rather negative reviews. Both featured "visitors" who offered help but ultimately left them still stranded. Each had one character who always fouled things up. Both series were cancelled even though they were still getting decent ratings. Both series originally ended without resolution. And both did well in syndication and have a large fan-base. There's more but that's what I could come up with at the moment.
A few "quick hits" on this episode: 1. "Name an Alfred Hitchcock movie." Notice that Angela Cartwright names THE BIRDS (1962) - which happens to be the Hitchcock film that her older sister, Veronica Cartwright, was one of the principals in the cast. (Veronica played Cathy Brenner, the much-younger sister of Mitch Brenner (played by Rod Taylor). She was 13 years old at the time, just one year after she had played another great movie role - namely, that of Rosalie Wells in the outstanding 1961 United Artists film version of Lillian Hellman's play THE CHILDREN'S HOUR.) 2. "Name an Alfred Hitchcock movie." I'm pretty sure that Guy Williams had STRANGERS ON A TRAIN (1951) in mind when he answered LADY ON A TRAIN. But there is a very good 1945 Universal movie titled LADY ON A TRAIN, with Deanna Durbin, Dan Duryea, Ralph Bellamy, Edward Everett Horton, Allen Jenkins, David Bruce, George Coulouris, Patricia Morison, Elizabeth Patterson, and William Frawley among the outstanding ensemble cast. It's well worth watching - and it is available on DVD. 3. "Name a magazine that gives people advice on how to improve their love lives." I had to laugh out loud to hear the answer "Hustler" given by June Lockhart, of all people. And I was surprised when it wasn't one of the listed answers to the survey! 4. Russell Johnson is very much in his actor/"Professor" persona in the lightning round - but he's also very good in his choice of answers, as is Dawn Wells, and that persona works! 5. Does anybody know which five cast members from HAWAIIAN EYE were on their FAMILY FEUD team? (They appear on set at the end, when the amount which each team raised for their designated charity was announced.) I know who was on the GILLIGAN'S ISLAND and LOST IN SPACE teams (obviously) and the BATMAN team (I've seen the FF episode which pits the BATMAN team against the GILLIGAN'S ISLAND team, and which aired the day before this episode), but not HAWAIIAN EYE. I recognize Connie Stevens, and I think Troy Donahue and Poncie Ponce as well, but not the other two or three. Douglas Mossman, perhaps? Anthony Eisley? Mel Prestridge? Robert Conrad (though I doubt it)? Grant Williams? Well, let me know if you know......
Guy Williams should have never bowed out of Bonanza, as Pernell Roberts' replacement. He'd have spent the next decade as a lead cast member of a top rated and iconic TV show.
I agree with you but it wasn't his choice to leave. Roberts decided to stay for another year. Williams said that the whole experience was unpleasant for him. The other actors really didn't want him there, especially Landon who felt threatened by Williams good looks.
Family Feud what fun,! :-) but no one will do a better job at hosting is Richard Dawson although many men can close Richard Dawson will always have a place deep in our hearts
Very true. He freely admitted that he was drunk on many episodes and also regularly did cocaine, as well. The latter was probably a way to wake him up a bit from the stupor. He was still fantastic.
Forget Angela can’t right now she was super hot too but she still is super hot and Mar. Ann it’s still super hot and I think she’s like 78 years old now❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@philiphoward1731-Mary Ann-(Dawn Wells), I agree with you, very beautiful. I have a long list, Jennie Garth, Jennifer Love Hewitt, so many!!! Who are some of your other crushes?
Well, when I was growing up I could never forget. Maureen McCormick from the Brady Bunch, Melody Patterson, from F-Troop, Justine Bateman from Family Ties. Christine Lakin from the Show Step By Step
I know that I'm showing my age (and my avid interest in the movies) when I say that I am old enough to remember: June Lockhart as Ruth Martin (the mother) on LASSIE (including some of the first-run episodes, but mostly in reruns), as well as Dr. Janet Craig on the last 2 seasons of PETTICOAT JUNCTION (after LOST IN SPACE was cancelled) - and also some roles from her movie days (the 1938 A CHRISTMAS CAROL, MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS, and T-MEN - all well worth watching); Guy Williams as Zorro in ZORRO (but only in re-runs); Angela Cartwright as Linda Williams in MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY (including some of the first-run episodes, as well as in reruns), as well as Angela in the 1962 film LAD: A DOG; Alan Hale, Jr. back in his movie days, in such films as IT HAPPENED ON FIFTH AVENUE, THE GUNFIGHTER (no screen credit, but still his role is quite memorable), SILVER LODE, A MAN ALONE, and THE KILLER IS LOOSE (all of which are well worth watching); Jim Backus from back in his movie days, in such films as M (the 1951 American remake), HALF ANGEL, DEADLINE - U.S.A, PAT AND MIKE, DON'T BOTHER TO KNOCK, THE SQUARE JUNGLE, MEET ME IN LAS VEGAS, JOHNNY COOL, IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD, and THE WHEELER DEALERS (all of which are well worth your watching), as well as his many "Mr. Magoo" cartoons - but not, oddly enough, either of the sitcoms in which he starred before GILLIGAN'S ISLAND (I MARRIED JOAN (1952-1955) and THE JIM BACKUS SHOW (1960-1961); Natalie Schafer from back in her movie days, in such movies as WONDER MAN, DISHONORED LADY, THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE, THE SNAKE PIT, and TAKE CARE OF MY LITTLE GIRL (all of which are well worth watching); Russell Johnson from back in his movie days, principally as Jed Ringer in RIDE CLEAR OF DIABLO (well worth your watching), but also in an uncredited part in the 1952 film THE TURNING POINT (also well worth your watching). Not being a fan of science-fiction movies, I have not seen THIS ISLAND EARTH or IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE, both of which featured him as one of the co-stars in the cast. And the others here? I can't really say that I've seen any of them in anything from movies or TV before GILLIGAN'S ISLAND or LOST IN SPACE, though I have seen Dawn Wells as Miss Lorilee Lee in the 1983 made-for-TV movie HIGH SCHOOL, U.S.A. (She was one of quite a number of TV sitcom icons from the 1950s and 1960s who played roles ranging from cameo parts to integral parts of the cast in that very funny film. By all means, watch it if you can find it (heck, it might even be up on RU-vid!); you'll have a great time doing so. But I hope that I've pointed some of you in directions that may lead you to some "video treasures" that you might not have known about - or, if you did know about them but haven't thought about them in a while, then maybe prodded your memory and made you think about watching them for a first time (or another time).
You are forgetting a minor point of tv trivia: 2 of the Gilligan's Island cast members were guests on the same 60s CBS show....Wild, Wild, West, though not the same episode. Alan Hale Jr. actually played a US Secret Service agent and I forget what exactly Dawn Wells did on her episode, perhaps "damsel in distress" ? Russell Johnson, in his earliest roles played a heavy of sorts, though I am not able to say where I would have seen him without an assist from Wiki. And yes, Jim Backus played the father of James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause.
Notice Jim Backus uses a controller instead of going up to the two-person podium when it's his turn for face-off. This is because he was suffering from Parkinson's disease. He does a good job on the show though, gave a key answer correctly at one point. He died of complications from pneumonia six years after the show aired.
Good seeing all. Vincent Price had a great voice. He did Michael Jackson's Thriller and tons of scary shows.. My husband would get off work and watch Gilligan's Island reruns every day. And I loved Lost in Space. Loved Batman and Hawaii 5.0....Great TV back then.
ddiiaa52 - it was “Hawaiian Eye” - a show I’ve never seen, but heard about. Vincent Price was often the ‘center square’ on Hollywood Squares w/ Peter Marshall hosting in the 70s & 80s as was Paul Lynde. Peter Marshall Singers had Richard Page, whom I grew up with his family. Richard went on to fame with Mr. Mister & two chart toppers in the ‘80s.❇️
@@eyecomeinpeace2707 I agree.I believe that if people go far enough out into space, they can receive broadcasts of shows like The Green Hornet and I Love a Mystery as clearly as it it was in their heyday. Anything is possible. Anything.

Most of them are gone now and that's just sad. I grew up watching these people. They were almost like family. Had a big crush on Dawn Wells, of course , ...Angela Cartwright, too. I miss them all. THOSE WERE THE DAYS!
At first I wondered why Guy Williams was not the leader of the Lost in Space team. June Lockhart really was a bigger star. Guy had retired to Argentina years before where he was a hugely popular because of his playing Zorro in the TV series. He flew in specially to be on the Feud. Eight years after filming this Guy Williams was found dead in his home after having not been seen for about a week. I believe he died of a heart attack at 64 or 65.
I don't think Guy wanted to be in the lead position and he was already visiting in the states when they asked him to do it. I believe he did it as a favor to June.
It may just be me but Guy Williams was still a great looking guy and the cast on both sides still looked very good all the years later. I did notice I think Jim Backus had aged a lot and seemed a little farther away perhaps age issues but this was fun to watch. Thank you for the upload.
+Kim Clayton Also, what's even more incredible about Jim Backus is that he was suffering from Parkinson's disease, and yet he came to do this and was on of the best players. A pretty incredible man.
+Paul Whipple Thank you for that information about Jim Backus. I wasn't aware he had Parkinsons at the time of this. Even more amazing he did so well. Great character actor and loved his voice. Mr. Magoo. lol. I am showing my age friend.
I always thought Alan Hale Jr. came across as the nicest guy in the world and he does here, too. A guy you'd want to have a couple of beers with or invite to a party.
Alan Hale Jr. was one of the nicest guys one would ever want to meet. He's the kind of guy that'd give you a bear hug, slap you on the back and give you the shirt off his back.
He owned a seafood restaurant in Los Angeles around the time this episode was recorded. It was called "The Lobster Barrel" and he often gave away Skipper's hats to Birthday guests in his restaurant in person.
Fantastic!!......You wouldnt think the castaways were the brightest in real life. Congrats!! Great to see our past, watching them as a kid, then watching them as a grandfather and not knowing this feud existed?! :-)
I still remember the First episode of Gilligan's Island. All of us kids, even those too poor to have a tv at home, found a set to watch it from I had to watch it from a neighbors home. The same with Dark Shadows.
