FAMU has ALWAYS played everything Clean and crisp. Probably the most MUSICALLY talented Marching Band in all of the HBCU's. Anyone can take music and crank it but it takes discipline for a band this size to play with such accuracy.
Thank You all for the Comments its good see what people think about my arrangements... Thank You for your honesty! -Chandler L. Wilson, FAMU Band President, Student Arranger and Conductor It was somewhat an answer to TSU but I put that in there specially for them!
Yeah, I know all about the different styles of marching. My freshman and sophomore years I had a band director that marched snare at auburn and my junior and senior years, I had a band director that marched tenors for FAMU. So I was lucky enough to have the best of both worlds.
there are alot of "good" bands out there... but bands that are "consistent" year in and year out other than FAMU... in my opinion... is tennessee state, southern, jackson state and bethune-cookman. Im sure there are others, but being "good' and being "consistent" are two different things. Anyone can be "good" for one or two years... but it takes more than being "good" for a few years to be the creme of the crop
Im always Impressed wit FAMU band my moms went there back in the 80's Ima 80's baby I was born in the dirty dirty thas why Im crazy a str8 up florida boi foreal.
never will understand how famu keeps all those band members in tune like that. so many members but have such good control and they dont blast EVERY song they play. tho i have to admit after lookin at it a couple times i wish the trombones in the back werent the only ones movin, lol
SouthWest DeKalb from atlanta,ga Remind me so much of FAMU band the size and everything i go to alot of SWD football games and when they band play i see FAMu in the movement and everything
@hhorns2002 agree with you on that one. I get tired of hearing about who plays loudest. Some people I guess do not know the difference between sound and noise. I have been a fan of the 100 since 89 when I saw them for the first time. I am a long time musician and love the quality, not the quantity of a piece. I can say there is no one in the SWAC I can say would musically or could hold a candle to the way they play REAL MUSIC!!!
WAR EAGLE!!!! Yeah, it would have been amazing if Auburn could have gotten FAMU scheduled to play them. Florida was lucky enough. You should go look up the videos from that game. FAMU tore it up!!!
Thats not the the type arrangement I'm used to hearing. but I understand and respect FAMU's approciate play a song with true quality and precision without sounding a mess. That was aight.
however, i challenge you to type in "FAMU WIND ENSEMBLE" in the search box and you can see and hear what we strive for here in everything we do... including the marching band. We strive for musicality in everything we do and we wont trade in musicality for a "louder" sound.
wow....MEACkang...i thought i was da only one who thought about the sound issue in the dome....nice arrangement by FAMU...absolutely POWERFUL....I agree with u MEACkang most of da otha bands play whole notes and crank and da song just be hype but has no quality...
in this video... there is about 210 members... 64 of which are brass players excluding the tubas. From the past 2008 season, the "100" had about 420 members.
@tubaboy2011 dude...just because they don't doesn't mean they don't have the capacity to...if FAMU ever play to the max each band you mentioned sitting across from them would pack up and go home...that's just not their style, goal, or the way they design their program...with a 400 piece band you simply don't have a bust a blood vessel to make a impact. thanks
They arent loud? Compared to who? These guys have a nice CLEAN sound. Lets give credit where its due. People on here always hatin on a FAMU, BCU, Norfolk etc. at least we are represented "The negativity must cease"
There is more to a band than volume. The 100 has a different sound concept than most bands. The 100 goal is to play with good intonation, blend & balance w/ each instruement supporting each other not about how "loud" one can be. Secondly, unlike most swac bands, the 100 isnt mostly brass. Yes, we have alot of brass, but its evened out with our woodwinds. Bigger brass=bigger sound. But if u go 2 a game (not youtube) and stand in front of the 100, you will see just how POWERFUL the 100 really is.
I know I'm from a smaller band in the SWAC but just one time I wanna see FAMU CRANK like their size. I love the musicianship but the jerk in me wants them to simply open up completely on someone. Love the arrangement.
Yeah I agree, if you have a swac band with meac size then you would have something serious to contend with...meac have nice field shows but swac is deadly in the stands !!!!
it sound like James bond at the end because the marching 100 was making fun of TnSU and if you have been around the HBCU bands then you would know one of TnSU main songs is the James Bond song
I thought the College Band experience taught elements of personal growth and maturity that could be seen the world over. Not the same as the vernacular displayed here right?
...REALLY!!!! desoto is one of the best a 40yr plus legacy.....never lost a compition before marching or music so check before you say stuff like that desoto is the best
