Mom knows:This was normal music for us whenever we turned on the radio in the 70s, and not some special FM station, but the normal top 40 radio station. So much was so good in the 70s that this became a forgotten gem. It also made us so very spoiled.
For me, in my opinion Robin Gibb has a unique voice my favourites of all Gibb brothers in my Top3 of best male voices with Paul McCartney & Freddy Mercury
It's one of the rare songs in which you can hear the range and depth of each Gibb's voice; Maurice stuns with great harmony and Robin, long considered the best singer in the group, also shines with a surprising depth not normally seen in the fragile timber of his voice 👍🏻🤩🏴
This is their stunning masterpiece from the 1975 main course album, with Barry Robins and Maurice perfect high pitched falsetto harmonies and amazing blended in 16 audio tracks😱perfectly mixed by Karl Richardson & Legendary Arif Mardin. As Barry told their instrumentally most complex and a beast of harmony song, but it is for sure one of their best jewels and praised in two interviews as the best RnB ballad they ever heard from Paul McCartney & the Goat Michael Jacksons producer Quincy Jones 🍾
@@barbarawebb7185 i guess it was 1979 print magazine, where John lennon six monthe before his dead in NYC told on the same interview "There is nothing wrong with the Bee Gees ..."
They are so underrated I think in years to come they will get the credit they deserve thanks to people like you. I appreciate all great artists Beatles etc but the Bee Gees are the best, a gift to the world
Quincy Jones is considered one of the greatest music producers ever, if not the greatest, and there's not even an argument about who the greatest producer of R&B/Soul/Funk was, that was Quincy Jones by a country mile. Why am I telling you this? Because this is Quincy Jones favorite R&B record he ever heard, that was his assessment of this song, and he didn't produce it, the Bee Gees produced their own music for the most part. But this is Quincy Jones all-time favorite R&B record.
I agree about this song wholeheartedly, and if a Great like Mr. Jones agrees too, we must be onto something! Hearing this song for the first time was amazing, and the layers of harmonies are unmatched.
@@generationgapreacts A few more of their best were "Inside and Out", "Love so right" and "Run to me" That last one, "Run to Me", was old Bee Gees, early 70's before they transitioned to more of an R&B sound.
But falsetto singin' is only under 10 % of their songs included. So I'd like you to react to 'Words' (Barry), 'I Started A Joke' (Robin) and 'Trafalgar' (Maurice), just to listen to their chest-voices. And then it would be great, seeing and hearing them on a live-performance, unplugged on MTV Most Wanted in 1993, where they sang a heavenly song, called 'Blue Island'. It's just priceless!
I would stand all night in the rain for HIM. I love this!! The brothers know how to include a beautiful bridge and get seamlessly back to the A part of the song. They are also master's of key changes. Thanks for this piece of magic. I am crazy about it but my favorite from this album is "Nights on Broadway." You won't be disappointed. It is heaven to me , and a beautiful way to hear all the brothers' gifts.
I saw the Bee Gees in concert in the fall of 1971 when I was a young 18 years old. This was way before the disco and falsetto years. They were even better than I'd hoped. You should explore their early hit songs. Too many to name but... Massachusetts and How Can You Mend a Broken Heart are possible suggestions among a myriad of others.
You are so lucky Don! I can't imagine how amazing that concert was. We just did How Can You Mend a Broken Heart and we will put Massachusetts on our list of Bee Gees videos. Thank you for watching :)
@@generationgapreacts Lucky indeed... due to a freak bit of amazingly good fortune, I sat in the 4th row, center stage. They had a small (8 piece) orchestra backing them. Between songs, they provided a lot of amusing and comical banter. Over 50 years later, I still remember that night well.
Around 5:25 The harmonies the different ranges from all of the brothers is the climax of this song. I listen to this in my car and I know exactly when that part is coming, I could listen to it 1000 times and still get goosebumps😂
The first piece where your daughter was stunned by the lower part, was Robin. Mom thank you for sharing about how different but how their voices beautifully blended. Even they remarked in an interview that when one sang it was good, two together was great but all three have insane harmony. I’d recommend the daughter listen to the music they produced before they were heavy into falsetto. Massachusetts To Love Somebody just to name a few. Nice genuine reactions, there are many who just go through the motions. God Bless you both !!
Mo said that this song is mostly sung by Robin & Barry singing together. He said they have 5 or six voices to choose from , each individual, Barry and Robin together or Barry and Mo together, then all together on the harmonies. Many songs it is Barry & Robin singing to get her then Mo comes in on the harmonies. Just magical.
Wow, I had never even heard this song before. What is most notable to me is that they do perform some of their harmonies but they drop in and out of those harmonies and take turns singing the lead. They also go in and out of falsetto. I'm no singer but I'm guessing tha is difficult to do. They pulled it off brilliantly. Thanks for reacting to this. Take care.
Their R&B Baroque-- my description-- so amazing-- such a showcase for their talent and vocal range! Thanks for reaction. BTW there is an hour loop of this song on YT. I play it sometimes at night as a lullaby. Also same person did an hour loop for Too Much Heaven also a vibe to chill out to by the Bee Gees.
Great description! We’ll have to add Too Much Heaven to our list of Bee Gees song to react to ☺️ the loop videos are a great idea when needing a relaxing song in the evening. We will have to check it out
Thank You for reacting to my request. I am so glad you both loved that song. This is one of my favorite bee gees songs. They rarely performed that Song live. The Song was originally going to be called Be Tender With My Love. While they were still writing the Song Fanny who was the House Keeper where they were at walked in. When they saw her name, they decided it would improve the Song.
As I get older I find myself appreciating their earlier songs more than their later and possibly more popular songs. "Massachusetts", "I've Gotta Get A Message To You" and "Words" are also worth checking out..
This is STILL my favorite Bee Gees song, released in 1975 from their fantastic R&B-influenced "Main Course" album. I will never understand why this didn't hit the top stop on the Billboard Hot 100, but... whatever. Yes, another 45 (7" single) that I pretty much wore out on the turntable. Anyway, I do appreciate the two of you reacting to this song... it is such a great song. I do recommend one other reaction to a song from the same album... "Nights On Broadway." A live performance of the song is shown on "The Midnight Special"... the video is available here on RU-vid. If you decide to watch it, be sure to NOT pick the one that says HD quality or remastered audio, or whatever, because that is the one where someone just put the studio version of the song audio on top of the live video. Instead, you want to hear the REAL live vocals... as the brothers really do a fantastic live performance on this. Just pick the one that says Nights on Broadway on the Midnight Special. If the video opens with The Midnight Special logo, and has an introduction by Natalie Cole, then you've got the right one. Again, it is a fantastic performance... you will love it.
This is the one , “Fanny” is my all time favorite great reaction ladies 😊. Will you react to early Bee Gees pre disco, “ walking back to Waterloo “ soon please I can’t wait to see your reactions 😉😃
I grew up listening to the Bee Gees back in the 70s and I can honestly say they were my favorite band along with the Eagles. The talent level this trio displayed will never happen again. The music and song writing along with the delivery with each performance is incredible. I'm more blown away now than I was back then. They really deserve more respect then they've been given over the years and I'm glad you two are displaying that in this video Thanks!!!!!
@@generationgapreacts How CAN You Mend a Broken Heart was their make-up song after an 18 month break-up of the band in 1969-70 because of ego, teenage angst and jealousy-- what the brothers referred to as the pitfalls of first fame. They were so young! . They "kissed and made up" and re-formed never to break up again because they really loved one another and missed working together. They wrote this song along with Lonely Days- another make-up song reflecting their feelings when they were estranged. BOTH were #1 hits for them!! Way to re-establish the band!! There is an Emmy-winning documentary released by HBO in Jan 2021 titled "The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart- available on YT and Prime- It is an excellent, entertaining doc about their Rise, Fall, Rise, Fall, Rise 45-year career as a pop-rock-RnB group.
First time visitor to your channel, ladies. I clicked because this is my favorite Bee Gees song. You might like to know that it was also their mother's favorite song that they made.
They are so talented I've loved songs I didn't even know were them singing. Every song is so unique all of them can be your favorite. So many groups you can always tell it's them like Journey, Heart, Fleetwood Mac but these guys always had a surprise in store.. Massachusetts, I Started A Joke, Run To Me and others I loved for years and the radio D J didn't always say the artists name and if they weren't on a special TV appearance or at a concert or buying albums you just didn't know. We are so blessed to have them at our fingertips. Don't leave out Andy Gibb.
The first song where they used the Falsetto was Nights On Broadway from the same album as Fanny. But it is on Fanny they really play around with in the end.
Around the world, every 20 seconds a Bee Gee's song, or a song they wrote for another artist, is playing. Somewhere in the entire world, every 20 seconds. Let that sink in then you'll grasp the sheer talent and magnificence that is the Brother's Gibb.
They decided to add a girls name and about that time Maurice saw the housekeeper named Fanny and that worked. You nailed it talking about how they switch it up. I've always loved them and for years there were songs I loved and was blown away when I found out it was the Bee Gees.
you really need to check out Andy Gibb , he was the youngest brother who died at 30 years old . he was so much like Barry to me . Shadow Dancing was my favorite of his .
