What more can I add that has already been said? Fantastic job on this engine, a great specimen! I have the ET1 and now the ETX, both unmodified and both run very well. Amazing engine models from China. I have built similar model engines, a lot of work, but none of mine are as nice as what is available now from China! Thanks for posting your video.
Thank you for the video. I really like the way you slowed it down by centering one spring on the governor. Also like the paint job and especially the exhaust. Nice job!
I have two of them. I twiddled with the first one and got it to run just like yours. But the second one barely runs. I tried everything. Finally just put it on the shelf as a display. I also machined the piston to take viton O rings that you can purchase at hardware stores versus the ones you have to wait forever to arrive from China.
I found another problem with this engine. only last week the flywheels came loose on the shaft so as the engine fires it spins slightly on the flywheel. The flywheel then hasn't got enough momentum to take it through to the next fireing cycle. I ended up putting flats on the main shaft and then tightened the flywheel screws onto the flat and that worked absolutely fantastic. maybe you should try this on your engine that doesn't work too well. let me know how you go on
Biggest problem is head sometimes not true and won’t seal against the cylinder liner. The other problem is the valves aren’t seated. Lap the valves with polishing compound and viola! They run perfectly.
That's the nicest set of modifications I have seen on one of these. First class job. I just got mine delivered yesterday. Fired up on the second spin. Now I need to make it more like yours. As delivered, the recoil from the firing strokes makes it jump all over the bench. I'm running mine on ordinary petrol with a dash of oil in to spare the bore from wear. What paint did you use? Lovely colour.
I used Lister green synthetic enamel. Spray tins are available all over the internet. Thank you for your kind words. You will find that even mounted on a wooden board like mine they will still bounce about. Find yourself an old flannel fold it in half and put it under your base board. This will stop your engine from jumping all over the place. I tried rubber feet fibre feet springs and none of them worked. The smokestack was made from a piece of brass pipe with another piece of brass rod drilled straight through the middle slotted down the brass pipe and silver soldered in place.
@@timothypeace6651 Thanks for the information. I wonder if you removed the timing gears before painting. I don't want to mess up critical settings to end up with a non-runner. On the other hand, I don't want a daubed up mess either.
Wow, you have the best running hit and miss engine on RU-vid. All the others run way too fast. Where in the world did you find the metal milk container in the background? I'm guessing it is your fuel container. I'd like to know the exact model number of this engine. Oil mixture ratio in gas? Coleman lantern fuel or pump gas? Thanks
The engine is a cheap hit-and-miss engine from China I think the exact model number is ET1. The milk container in the background is a railing oil bottle. The not cheap about £40 upwards but well worth the money. They are designed to work at any angle even upside down as there is two pumps inside. Dalene no oil residue on your workbench as they are designed to to catch oil drips down the spout and put them back into the bottle very clever idea. The fuel is normal petrol from the petrol station with a bit of 2-stroke oil no exact measurement just guess. And thank you for your kind words
I’d love to build one of these and add a small 5 cold 2 amp generator to it and go into some place like Starbucks whip it out and fire it up to charge my phone or laptop.
I have now added a little generator it was a motor out of a CD player it was for the tray to eject. I have put a set of lights on my generator a row of LEDs. It looks quite nice all lit up.
Great tips hidden in here eg your brass grease cup tip. Tim. Chinese engines have come a long way in 3 years since this was made; back then you could get loose fitting, bent cranks and dead ignitions. It's been a steady vast improvement and in models, check out several here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LRWh3zAbUXg.html. Enjoy!!
Thanks for asking. It's called a hit and miss engine because it only fires when the engine slows down. On one of the fly wheels is some Bob weights these fling out when the engine speeds up. This moves a lever which holds the exhaust valve open. That stops intake and compression so the engine won't fire. I hope this helps.
