Mirror, Mirror; Billy's Got A Gun; Die Hard The Hunter; Switch 625. Basically every song from High And Dry and Pyromania.
@SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra
@@roberthughes2402 Pretty much, yeah. ...Don't neglect: On Through The Night, either! Many, many fans, really, never appreciated how GOOD that album, actually, IS! It is them at their rawest (o.k., no: the Def Leppard E.P. is them at their RAWEST ! 👍😂-LOL !-HOWEVER!!!!😛😜...) and still playing "classic NWoBHM." ...Great songs! "Overture", "Answer To The Master"??? -Come ON!!!! If you are looking for something raw. but with a slightly more melodic edge: "It Could Be You" is a ripper! Anyhow: I can't know, right now, how you feel about that album (or whether you, even, know it!-although, I expect that you DO!), but it does NOT get the respect it deserves. High 'n' Dry is (probably) "that x8," but On Through The Night is a great, great debut album with songs that I would want to hear them play in their set-lists, NOW! 🤘🤘🔥

Pyromania is one of the greatest rock records ever recorded. It went platinum 10 times (10 million records sold), making it a Diamond record, which are rare. They hit right as MTV was gaining popularity, so all their videos got heavy play on the channel, which certainly helped sell records. There's not a dud on the whole album - *THIS SONG WASN'T EVEN A SINGLE*, and it absolutely rips. I still listen to this whole album start to finish regularly.
@ckobo84

And that was primarily with just a young male fanbase. They targeted Hysteria more towards the female fan base and I think it did even slightly better.

@Timmayytoo
@Timmayytoo Год назад
@@ckobo84 Pyromania was recorded with their original guitarist, who was then replaced by Phil because his drinking had gotten out of hand, so Hysteria was the first album recorded with Phil, who was not really a metal guy at all, which helped make their sound more melodic and helped them appeal to more women. And yes, Hysteria sold more copies than Pyromania - twice as many, in fact. But for me, Pyromania remains their best record.

Same! I have the order of the songs on this album memorized in my head by accident. At the end of the song on this reaction, in my head I heard the first chord from the next song, Photograph, and I know my subconscious was wondering why it wasn't playing 🧐🤨😂

@@Timmayytoo Yes, and that is one reason why Def Leappard was at their peak with Pyromania. That and the drummer losing his arm made the drumming and songs much simpler. Kudos to the group though for staying with the drummer. And he made it work.

No, actually: You can. After Steve Clark died they, really, went suck. (Although they have, partially, "redeemed" themselves, sporadically, later-on from that.) All Def Leppard is NOT great Def Leppard. -Not by far!🤘🤘

@@SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra Each to their own, but yes the earlier Def Leppard was much better, but of their popular songs I never heard one I hated. Most of them I thought were great.
@SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra
@@johnsexton2200 No, you're correct. I liked everything through Hysteria (and,even some of the much later stuff). in fact. I think that when I think of the "popular songs," I, just, compare them, mentally, to the REALLY great songs and I start to think, like: "...yeah, but: NO! Compared to..." "x" ? "????!" -It's a bit emotion-bound and not accurate ... One of their GREATEST songs, ever (It, truly, qualifies as: one of the top 3 rock singles EVER released): "Photograph" is, also, an "overplayed," "everybody knows it" track. I will NEVER say that that song ISN'T, in fact: SPECTACULAR!. ...but I think that I wasn't thinking, entirely, clearly (when I wrote, earlier), maybe. ...I DO have a period of theirs which I, basically, don't like anything from, but: the majority of their music: is better than, just, "good." It's very good. ...and those first 4 albums????: GREAT!! TRULY, TRULY GREAT.or, even: SPECTACULAR! 🤘🤘 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

OMG. Taking me back to my childhood here! I first really got into Def Leppard when I was about 12 or 13 years old (1987-ish) and I was obsessed! I remember my parents took my brother and me to the mall to get something for my brother. Since I didn’t “need” anything, Mom said I could go to Musicland and get one cassette tape. So I got Def Leppard-Hysteria and that was it for me! Next thing I know, I have all of their albums on cassette tape and I carried the tapes, my Walkman, and extra batteries with me EVERYWHERE in my jean jacket. I found that I could carry more tapes in my pockets if I didn’t take the cases with me, which lead to the writing wearing off of them, so I had to write out new labels! There was also a book about Def Leppard called “Animal Instinct” which, of course, I had and I read it so many times that the pages came apart from the book binding! If it was Def Leppard related, I had it! The Kwik Trip gas stations used to sell pins for various bands and I have about 20 of them for Def Leppard, which are all pinned to my Def Leppard cap. (This cap is currently in my line of sight.) Did I say I was obsessed? I’m so far into my 40s now that I’m pushing 50 and former schoolmates will still occasionally mention how crazy I was about them! Also, I always thought it was so cool that Rick Allen and my dad shared a birthday!

The album that got me into rock music as an 8 year old in 1983. The 3 big videos from it were Photograph, Rock of Ages and Foolin' but the album was so huge that this song and Too Late For Love were played on the radio and still are. Billy's Got A Gun, Die Hard the Hunter, Stagefright, Comin' Under Fire and Action Not Words round the album out. This was their 3rd album and Rick Allen was a ripe old age of 20. When they signed their first record contract, Allen's brother had to sign because Rick was only 15 and was too young. The newer part of their collection has some great stuff too. They just didn't get the radio play so people don't know the songs as well and sometimes don't give them the chance to see how good they are.

They were certainly my favorite group of the 80's. Its hard to imagine how GIGANTIC this group was if you werent alive back then. When they were going through their peak we had no internet and we basically had no home computers either. We had the radio, and if we were lucky we had cable TV (where we could get MTV).

When I was eight years old, and still discovering what music I really liked, my big sister (who was and is one of my heroes), invited me into her room and sat me on the bed. "Don't do anything, don't touch anything, just listen to this," she told me, and put on 'Pyromania,' which we listened to from beginning to end. I'd never heard anything like it, and fell in love instantly. Still one of the best albums out there.

Originally this tune was existing earlier than the rest of the Pyromania. They made new lyrics and Phil Collen played a new solo etc. I think that is the reason it reminds more High´n Dry -era song. Raw and powerful stuff.

I've been a fan of Del Leppard since 1983 when I was in 8th grade. I've seen them in concert 15x. The first time was in 1987 in Dallas with Tesla as the opening band. I absolutely love this band. They are definitely a band of brothers. When Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident, they didn't even consider replacing him. They gave him time to decide if he wanted to continue with the band. They have overcome the death of their original guitarist Steve Clark and even recorded an album as a 4 piece until Vivian Campbell was added to the lineup in 1993. Much respect for these guys and they got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018! Check out song "Let It Go" from their previous album "High and Dry" as well as a fun number called "Me and My Wine."

Best part of the 70s were "Garage Bands" and the 80's was MTV... EXCEPT seeing these bands live! 1983... what a year. I remember when 7-Eleven was doing one of their once-famous collector cups promotions for their Slurpees, and the plastic cups featured the big chart-topping bands of the time. Usually these collections had anywhere between 4 to 8 pieces, but I definitely remember they included this album, Def Leppard - Pyromania. Others included Quiet Riot - Metal Health, Billy Idol - Rebel Yell, and ZZ Top - Eliminator. If there were others, I have no clue - either I never saw them or they've escaped my mind entirely (maybe Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual was one?). Those were the 4 cups I managed to obtain, but sadly, the cheap ink they used eventually chipped off, either in dishwasher and/or washing by hand, or even just by touching it and transferring it to your hands (much like glitter does). If they did not fade or lose the image, the plastic cups cracked. I bet they'd be worth a lot of money today if any survived and remained in pristine condition.

Def Leppard is on tour in 2023, on Aug 16h they will be at Skelly Field @ H.A. Chapman Stadium, Tulsa, OK! A duo you should check out is Larkin Poe featuring Rebecca & Megan Lovell. They play roots Rock-n-Roll with southern flair. They will check a bunch of boxes as to why they are group to get into. Give their song "Blood Harmony" at listen. 🎸😎

I saw them in 1983 in Seattle on the Pyromania tour. Hands down the best concert I ever saw. Saw them with my first girlfriend. It was pure 80s magic.

A big part of the change in sound of Def Leppard came during the Hysteria years. But it wasn’t the songwriting that changed that much then. It was production. Production quality went way up. When that happened, it changed their sound to something more polished. Even though it sounded less rock, that softer sound had a more commercial appeal. The band exploded after that. They did some weird stuff later in their career. But they’ve done some good stuff in their later years too. They definitely experimented a lot more later. Overall a legendary career.😊

CLASSIC Def Leppard off of the Pyromania album. Rocking, kick ass tune! The Pyromania album was nuts from start to finish, produced by Johnathan "Mutt"Lange who was crucial to developing their sound and had produced hit albums by AC/DC. - "Back In Black" & "Highway to Hell". Mutt had a knack for bringing out the most of the band members and finding their sound. He went on to produce the Hysteria album as well, which is one of the best rock albums (in terms of sales) of all time.

I graduated it 1986, so I was in my teens for all of the 80s and some of the 70s. Great music was everywhere back then. I listened to Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Dio, Scorpians, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc, etc. Then came Bon Jovi and the music seemed to be less about good music and more about the spotlight. Music went from Rock You like a Hurricane to "I wear a six string on my back". Then Guns N Roses came out and Axle Rose tormented Kurt Cobain like a schoolyard bully. That did not go over well. Then after that I had a hard time finding as many great bands. There were still bands like Queensryche, Pantera and Rob Zombie but great music just did not seem to be pervasive as in the early 80s.

Def Leppard is amazing. I remember finding their LP “All through the Night” at a record store. Back then you prided yourself in finding foreign music that rocked before anyone else. I think they were 17 years old at the time they released that album. Rock in those days was different, concerts were different. Jay I would have taken you under my wing here in AZ. Me & my N8V bros would have took you to some amazing concerts out here in the desert.

Here's what makes 80s music, 80s fashion, 80s everything so cool. It was our attitude towards the possible instant doom of getting nuked, asnd everything wiped out.Five minutes to say goodbye changes things. But we didn't do what every other generation did in response. 78-93 really. In part of the 50s, they faced nukes, and people of that time period, said F&$K it, we'll be stronger than them. In the 60s, people of that age said, F@#K it, let's protest it. In the 70s, people of that age said, F@$K it, lets give in. In the 80s, we said, F!$K it, LETS PARTY! And we did, like there was no tomorrow, because there might not be, so why worry, have a party, enjoy your last day. We didn't hunker in the bunker, we shouted it from the rooftops.

To Amber's comment about how this kind of rock disappeared - It didn't, it's just not promoted by major record companies like it was back then. While not exactly the same, there are still bands around that can rock hard. One example, (that you seem to regularly skip over) is 'The Pretty Reckless' with Take Me Down also Halestorm (who you have checked out a couple times) with songs like Here's To use These are both female fronted bands that stand out and are currently active. If you want to check out newer rock songs, they are out there to be found.

Def Leppard was one of the rock bands that came into popularity during my very early teens. My mom is the one who got me into listening to them. We had a copy of Pyromania on vinyl and audio cassette. We played them so MUCH! They are also one of my very favorite rock bands from that bygone era. Off topic: This is day 9 of my birthday month. I am going to optimistically and politely ask if you could react to the album version of Peter Gabriel's "Rhythm of the Heat", and possibly his other songs off his "Security" album, like San Jacinto, The Family and the Fishing Net, and Shock the Monkey. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

It's kinda strange that in 1983 when Def Leppard released the 'Pyromania' album, it was selling 2nd behind Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' in the USA... but in the UK and Europe, the album was just not selling those numbers (and they are a British band!) Joe Elliott (vocals) said that they sold out Tiger Stadium in Detroit faster than Led Zeppelin in 1984... But they were playing small venues in Europe. Sadly, it took Rick Allen's accident to bring Def Leppard some interest, and when the band played UK's Monsters of Rock Festival in Donington in 1986 w/ a 1-armed Rick Allen making a comeback, the crowds embraced them. Def Leppard's 1987 album 'Hysteria' became a #1 album in the UK (finally!) and would sell over 10 million copies in the US by 1988.
