Very common question these days. By the way, I did not mention this in the video, but I have no connection with the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network, other than being a satisfied member. Don't know that they even knew me; I just sent in my check for a three-year membership like everybody else. In this crazy world of "infomercials" and "stealth infomercials," I just wanted to point that out. :-) Transparency is always paramount with us. ------------------------ Remember to check out our video clips on the Hickok45Clips channel: / @hickok45clips

In the 29 years I've been driving, I haven't had a need for car (or home for that matter) insurance claims. (Granted insurance is required in Mass.) That's a lot of money over 29 years to spend without a benefit of some sort, it's just peace of mind. Spending $13-30 a month ($147-$347 yearly paid in full for USCCA) while not "cheap", it's not that much difference than other insurance.

If you're not a former cop or related to a cop it doesn't matter how much you like guns or how conservative you are, if you use it in self defense they will try to put you away every single time. Don't fight them, but don't trust them or talk to them. They DO NOT care about your life or your rights and will not go out of their way to protect either.

people defend their lives every single day with firearms and are not charged with a crime. Most of the time local law enforcement refers to them as a law abiding citizen who saved the day. What are you talking about? Yes when someone "defends" their or others lives in a manner that leaves it up for debate if they actually defended their lives or not, then yes there will be questions and investigations and of course there are always crooked cops and DAs etc etc..

@@SkinnySkinch : You are forgetting a few things. Many people end up NOT keeping their mouths shut and LEOs are being replaced with orders followers (SA, SS, Stasi, NKVD/KGB). 2) Many cannot afford bond/bail and 3) lack the money for an attorney let alone a top notch 2A lawyer. I just know USCCA covers all of that plus even if no charges are pressed the wildebeast that spawned her little baby carjacking you or a home invasion can still, and do file a civil suit. They cover that too for under $50 a month. I've never heard of the group Hikok is referring to but I am surprised he did not have any coverage.

I know people who refuse to carry a weapon because they're afraid what will happen to them in the courts and society if they use it, even properly and lawfully. Many would rather get beaten and robbed than deal with the aftermath of legally pulling a gun or even using martial arts. Our right of self defense is being eroded by society, even if we still have the right to carry a weapon.

The most important thing to remember. Keep your mouth shut. Articulate! I want a lawyer. I cannot talk until I talk to a lawyer. You must say I am invoking my right to remain silent. If you just say nothing not talking can be used against you. Do not talk to cops. Do not say anything on a phone that you wouldn't say to a cop. If you call someone tell them where you are and that you need a lawyer. Nothing else. A police station is wired for sound. A police telephone is recorded. A Cop can lie to you. They will not let you go if you talk. You can't just explain.

Here is a section from the USCCA policy that illustrates a problem. 1. Primary Insurance This insurance is primary except when paragraph 2. below applies. If this insurance is primary, our obligations are not affected unless any of the other insurance is also primary. Then, we will share with all that other insurance by the method described in paragraph 2.c. below. 2. Excess Insurance a. This insurance is excess over any other valid and collectible insurance purchased by the “insured”, whether primary, excess, contingent or on any other basis, that applies to an “occurrence” or “covered legal liability” to which this insurance also applies; b. When this insurance is excess, we will have no duty under this Coverage to defend the “insured” against any "claim" or suit if any other insurer has a duty to defend the “insured” against that "claim" or suit. If no other insurer defends, we will undertake to do so, but we will be entitled to the “insured's” rights against all those other insurers. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? "Primary insurance" pays first, and has the duty to defend, if something happens. "Excess insurance" only pays after the primary insurance pays out their entire policy limits. For example, if you have a homeowners policy with $100,000 limits, that will usually be "primary." If you have a claim of $105,000, your homeowners will pay $100,000 and the "excess" insurance would pay $5,000. If the claim is less than $100,000, the "excess" insurance doesn't even show up. In Paragraph 1, they say that they are the primary insurance, except as stated in Paragraph 2. That is, they promise to pay first. EXCEPT AS STATED IN PARAGRAPH 2. Paragraph 2a says that they are "excess" if you have any other insurance , at all. It specifically states that they are last in line behind every other coverage that might be applied. Paragraph 2b says they have no duty to do anything until your homeowners insurance has already exhausted all of their coverage. That is, if they are ever called to pay anything, they will be last in line. They have no duty to do ANYTHING until every insurance before them is exhausted. All you are really paying for is an increase in policy limits on your current homeowners, renters, or car insurance coverage - with more exclusions and limitations. All such policies will probably have very similar wording. Don't believe me. Take the policy and look for "Primary Insurance". It will be in every policy. The paragraphs may even be the same exact wording. And then, you would go into the other issues and exclusions. See the video by Marc Victor. His comments would apply to most, if not all, such policies with different wording. He doesn't even get into the stuff about who is actually going to pay. Don't believe me. Please. Go ask your own agent to review this coverage and tell you who would pay what if something bad happened.

Yeah, for anybody who has viewed these DVDs of attorneys and firearms experts who have witnessed hundreds, maybe thousands, of civilian shooting court cases, some of the comments posted here become pretty laughable. One certainly does not HAVE to join one of these networks or insurance programs ( I did not until recently), but everybody who carries should study the issue a great deal more and be sure to have an attorney lined up to call right away if there's an event. I had already read and heard enough horror stories regarding this, where an innocent person just defending himself got railroaded by the system or a politically motivated anti-gun prosecutor, that I decided to start looking into the programs out there and to make sure I have a good attorney I can call to show up at 3:00 AM if needed. That's the important thing. It's not bad either knowing you have someone like Massad Ayoob available if needed and justified, but the main thing is having an attorney there quickly. Just because somebody is "in the right" doesn't mean there's no jeopardy. Most people don't even realize that regardless how righteous the shooting appears to be, you will very likely be arrested until things are sorted out. You'll want a good lawyer advocate there to make sure things are not "sorted out" against you. If you're just a hot head quick to brandish and use a firearm, you're in big trouble anyway, of course.

You should read their fine print. Almost all of those insurance companies, have the same fine print, and it usually goes something like "If you are charged with a crime, we will not represent you".... Isn't that the whole point of the insurance? There is an attorney called "attorneys for freedom" Who goes through the fine print on each one of these places and reads over all their pitfalls and how they can deny you coverage if they so choose. This is why the majority of us who have actually read all the fine print, choose armed citizen legal defense network. They don't have all that fine print.

If you take that plea deal, you admit guilt, and USCCA will want you to pay back everything they paid up to that point.

Geez, what a lousy organization; they won't provide defense for me if I choose to murder somebody or if I'm a "loose cannon" and shoot somebody in a road range incident because they cut me off. :-) I certainly would HOPE they don't use my membership dues to help defend some joker who is just acting aggressively. We carry a firearm for "self defense." If you're planning to shoot somebody in a situation where it might not be defensible as "self defense," maybe you should really not be carrying a firearm.
@Kevin_Eder
@Kevin_Eder 7 лет назад
I can see where John is coming from. "There must be sufficient evidence to make a reasonable argument that the use of force incident was self defense." What's considered sufficient evidence? What's a reasonable argument? This isn't about someone going about murdering people, it seems you essentially have to prove it was self defense in order for the insurance claim to be valid. If you have the ability to prove it was self defense to satisfy the insurance policy, using sufficient evidence to present a reasonable argument, then it's more likely that any case brought against you to be dismissed or unable to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The wording makes it seem like the insurance won't be valid in difficult to prove cases, which removes most of the value. It still may help with costs in the open and shut type cases but it's likely you will never get any real value from this insurance. This type of insurance appears to be in the same vein as extended warranties and other such policies you get offered when you buy a TV or appliance. In the end you'll probably never use it and in the rare case that you do there will be so many restrictions as to be nearly impossible to utilize it.

That set my scam alert off. It became pretty clear these guys must get some cut of every policy they sell. We pay a lot of money in our lives for "peace of mind". Whether its homeowners insurance (which mortgage companies require you to buy) or warranties. It's still not clear to me what protections this provides you. If you get into a gunfight and kill or wound a bad guy, an innocent bystander or do significant property damage it seems these companies have a thousand outs to keep from paying.

The only thing I don't like about them is that they won't pay for bail. The way I look at it, I have enough money for bail and I'll get that money back so long as I follow the rules and show up in court. At first I was considering ACLDN, but I didn't like that they aren't an actual insurance company and they don't define how much over the initial $25,000 they're willing to pay for your defense. I also considered CCW Safe, but they won't cover you if you end up having to defend yourself against somebody you allowed into your home or a family member. None of the companies were perfect, so I just went with the one that met most of my needs and was cost effective.

The wealth of knowledge housed between Hickok45 and Massad Ayoob could not be overstated, and I am grateful for the information shared with us. I have been considering some sort of insurance or membership for legal services. I want to like the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network, but I haven't been able to get a warm and fuzzy from them yet. My main concern is from what seems to be vagueness around the membership benefits. They mention "a deposit" paid to an attorney, but how much? Are there caps to what they will payout in the deposit or in total from their fund for a single case, charge, or incident? I understand it isn't insurance, but traditional insurance companies lay it out simply in their policies. With the Network, I don't know if it's a matter of keeping it open for flexibility and a "trust me bro" situation or what the reason is. I personally never trust a "we'll make it right - trust me bro" policy. Maybe they do have strict policies and caps that just aren't shared on their public pages of their sites. If someone could shed some light on this or let me know how I could get these specific details and policies, I would appreciate it. I just don't understand why it isn't explicit and conspicuous on their site.

Basic questions to ask: 1) Are they using the word "insurance" or leading people to believe that it is "insurance"? If so, they need an insurance license. Claiming they are a membership organization and it is a free benefit like their newsletter doesn't cut it. 2) If they have a license, what state is it? They probably don't have any license of any sort. That ought to be a big clue. If it is only Texas, run away. Texas is the worst for regulation. If it is NY, you are on good ground. But NONE of these things are allowed to be sold in NY. That ought to tell you something right there. 3) Are they licensed in your state? If they aren't, then your only remedy for a denied claim is to write them an angry letter. They can tell you to stick it and you have no recourse. 4) Did they claim that they will pay your criminal defense or bail you out of jail? If they did, they are lying. That's illegal under all insurance law. It is a "moral hazard" Insuring someone's criminal defense would make people more likely to commit crime. Therefore, it is illegal everywhere. NOBODY is going to send you a check for thirty grand for a retainer for an attorney when you call them from jail. NOBODY. 5) Do they claim to offer civil liability coverage? If so, then they need an insurance license. Where is it? If so, that's the same coverage you get on your homeowners or renters insurance. You will pay more for it, with no guaranteed payments on claims, and lots of other restrictions than you would through any major national insurance carrier. Furthermore, your homeowners or renters would be the "primary" insurance so -- even assuming that this was real "insurance", they still would not be obligated to pay anything until your homeowners carrier had paid their maximum policy limit. Bottom line, chances that this will result in any actual money in your pocket in times of crisis are close to ZERO. 6) Did they claim that there is no limit on their payouts? If so, see me about a really great deal on some magic beans right now. If there is no limit on payouts, the only explanation could be is that there are no payouts. Call your homeowners or renters agent and ask them about a million dollar general liability umbrella policy. That will get your FAR MORE coverage from a REPUTABLE, LICENSED COMPANY THAT PAYS THEIR CLAIMS.

This is an insurance company's dream. Insurance companies profit models basically consist of far, far fewer people needing to use the insurance than there are people who actually purchase it. With how obnoxiously uncommon it is for a person paying this kind of insurance to A: need to defend themselves, B: need to use a gun to defend themselves, C: Fire that gun to defend themselves, and D: Get sent to jail for having to fire a gun in self defense, what they receive from people buying this insurance has to be almost pure profit. I don't see any point, as a consumer, to purchase insurance like this. It's wasted money. If you're seriously concerned with this then just get a retainer on a good lawyer.

If the one Hickok 45 has is all you can afford, and it may be enough, get it. ............I can't believe now that I went all those years before 2011 without coverage. Now I'd as soon drive my car without car coverage as carry my gun without coverage. Can cost HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of DOLLARS even if you are innocent with an air tight alibi if the prosecutor just thanks you look good as a target, he's political and wants to prosecute gun folks, etc. For about the cost of a gun a year, about $500 or less, you can and will get an incredible amount of defense coverage. A friend of mine is a lawyer in a major metro area known for being a combat zone and with woke city government, although red state government. He says, don't blow your money on that stuff. Instead, spend your money on training so you can handle your weapon expertly and training on scenarios to make sure you understand the law. He also says don't be an a-hole and be smart about where you go and avoid scuffles at all costs. If you do those things the law will inevitably be on your side and you can hire an attorney to seal the deal -- that's if in the odd event the prosecutor decides to charge you after you do all of the above and still end up in a self defense incident. In addition to being a private attorney he's also been a public defender and cop in the past. He carries without concealed carry insurance. I've read that the insurance can be very heavily laden with caveats of what it will and won't cover. Maybe I'm wrong but I think I'll spend that money on range time.
