This reminds me of going to plowing matches with my grandpa. He had a farmall BN and a little wonder 2 bottom plow. I used that setup to take 3rd place in the Jr. Division at the big rock plowing match when I was 12 years old! My uncle still has the tractor and plow and when I see him I always make sure to take it for a spin. Sates my hunger a bit while I wait for the right time to get one of my own.
Keep one thing in mind. When the A came out in 1939 and the Cub came out in 1947, they looked like an M to a farmer who had been walking behind a mule for 40-50 years.😁
When I was on the farm we had 1 Farmall 100 and it pulled a disk and a subsoiler and plowed 30 acres of tobacco. That A will pull in 3 gear with no problem, may have to start in second then shift to 3rd. You have a good little strong tractor. I grew up with Deere’s but worked with other farmers who had a lot of different Farmals and loved driving them back in the 60s and 70s . Something about old tractors which made America what it is today! Blessings from Ohio
@@tyfrank3427 in Missouri A’s were a single plow tractor, C pulled two 12s, H pulled two 14s, and M was three plow tractor. Missouri has lots of clay in soils, so my experience and what I saw where I farmed may not be representative across the country. We had a little Super C with two 12s and it struggled somewhat when you would get in tougher soil situations 😜😜
@@steveimhoff5646 Soil type is everything. My dad grew up about 13 miles as the crow flies away. My grandpa had a 3 bottom plow, a packer wheel, and a pony press drill. He pulled it all with a W-4. Here, 2 14s is plenty for a W-4 on normal going and it wouldn't pull it at all in sod. On crop ground, Dad typically pulled 5-14s with an 806, 4-16s with a 650 and 4-14s with a WD-9. He did pull 5 14s with the 650 but it made it work. On hay ground, it took the 806 to pull 4-14s. We currently pull 6 16s usually with a 1206, or 1066, but this year we used the 4186 and of course, that doesn't know the plow is back there.

Been waiting on this! Here we go ! You should be okay.! Plowed many times with JD 4020 with 5-16’s with front tires off the ground! Same with the Massey Ferguson Super 65 and 165! Yeah just be ready your turn it over it’s your ass! LOL!!! I believe she did alright for a garden tractor doesn’t seem to be laboring at all! He’ll never seen such a thing I’m impressed! Second gear does the trick ! I’ve said it many times throughout the years! You can’t beat a Farmall! Ya just can’t
I had my pop corn and had a smile watching that A pull the 2 bottom plow .. there's nothing like having a old tractor still doing work today just like it did brand new .. I still have fun with my old tractor..
In 1941 my great grandpa bought a farmall a and a little wonder 2-12 plow and he farmed 80 acres with it until he upgraded to a wd45 allis. We still have the little farmall a on the farm it has never left but don’t have the little wonder plow would like to find one someday.
Our first tractor was an A hand crank. It came with a tractor mounted single 18" We would plow two 40 acre fields (forever) in 2nd gear. Dad traded my favorite little tractor when I was in the military; sorry day when I returned home to learn the little A was no longer on the farm.
My parents had a farmall A when I was little, we lived in Alaska, It may have been a cub, all I know is it had that offset engine, and an extra set of wheels that floated along behind the front axel for a set of half tracks, it had a 3 pt hitch and discs. It was pretty cool, Id actually ride on it with my dad, i could ride anything, his dozer, tractor, dump truck, id fall asleep on the dozer. Allis Chalmers HD6 😂 I remember the farmall had these two rings you’d pull to start the engine.
When tractor and plow are set right and working in harmony it doesn't take a great deal of power . Good work. BTW Things look dry up in NW Pa as well as the rest of the state. Until that Northwesterly wind changes to the Southwest likely to remain dry and cold. Good reminder about tractor safety. Several accidents around my area over the years. Guy was killed when he flipped his Super C. Another one had his WD45 snap coupler break flipping it back on himself. Compound leg fracture. A 16 year old rolled his Fordson Super Major down over an embankment crushed to death.

The C was rated for two bottoms with pretty much the same engine, I think it was more a traction thing than anything. Obviously the ground plays a lot in that calculation as well. Awesome looking tractor, '47 was the last year for the regular A!
@@tyfrank3427 The 200 we had worked well with the fast hitch 2-14" plow. I know I plowed up a sod once with my BN and it's BN-187 16" plow and it was EVERYTHING that tractor wanted. Tough ground in these parts...
@@msad40kopishke Sod is a different kettle of fish altogether. You need a lot more tractor or less bottoms for sure. Here, the way we deal with sod is we generally chisel plow it twice before using the moldboard plow. A 200, would be a nice little tractor. There are none around here. In my area, the extent of the 100 series tractors are 300 Utilities, W-400s and 600s.
Burning was an old way to stop clogging of plows that removed a lot of nutrients from the soil. It was often done in my youth and now we often plant a good plow down. Run a disk over it may have save you some problems. Great seeing that old equipment run.

Hello Again From KY. I was kind of wondering what you thought of my theory about the pistons/sleeve modification now that you have been plowing with the tractor. Does your engine have a fan but no water pump. I think that was the C-113 engine. My Dads tractor was a 1953 Super A in which I think that the next year’s engine may have had a water pump. It’s been a long time since I studied the progression of McCormick FarmAll tractors to remember which tractor had what engine. I’m getting in the mood to try to bring my Dads Super A back to life. I bet you are glad you bought that tractor - I would be.
Have you ever heard of the side disk plow for the A? It actually works great for a step up onto the tractor. It's like a 22" disk or so.. It does the same thing as a turning plow but just one pass at a time.
Disk breakers were very popular in the deep south essentially because of most ground being formally hard wood forrest and the beyond numerous stumps and large roots they would roll over those instead of digging in and hanging up regular moldboard plows would be a problem with continuous tripping or hang ing if the trip mechanism was bad. Hitting a stump at 4 or 5 miles an hour and sudden stop was not good
Looks like you need to lower the plows furrow wheel some more. Your plow is not running level from side to side. The hitch should be adjusted to run slightly up hill when hitched. The rear landslide should be leaving a lite mark in the bottom of the furrow with the wheel taking the rest.
The A handles it good. You should surely be able to pull five 14" bottoms or four 18" bottoms with the 756 but you will need 18.4-34 tires. The little A does a good job.
@@FarmallFanatic 5 14s are actually less plow believe it or not. We still have the Oliver 5-14 and 4-14 plows but haven't used them for years. We have pulled the 5-14 with a 650 and it did it in really hard pulling soil. Although, Dad usually pulled the 4-14 with the 650 and the 5-14 with the 806. The 650s aren't much less tractor than the 756. At some point, I'd like to hook on to the 4-14 plow with my Super W-6 and try it.
Nice!! I got a nice 53 Super A. Only thing i dont like is 1st gear is quite fast for my liking. I wish they had more of a granny gear Mine had a bad bendix and flywheel now too. Wore the teeth out and doesnt engage. Im hoping a new bendix gear will be enough to engage it. I really dont wanna break tractoer in half to put new flywheel on. I gotta hand crank or pop clutch to start it
Thanks for mentioning about tractor flips. A lot of people have died from hocking to high or not using a proper drawbar You could do a video on tractor flips and save someone’s life. I see it on you tube where people are hooking to lawnmowers and ATV’s and they don’t recognize the danger The draw bar has to be hooked to the centre of the tractor for heavy pulling or the back axil will flip the tractor
Its hard to say from here, but it looks like setting your coulters a little deeper might help cut the trash better? I bought a L.G. 2-12 this year an put it behind our farmall 140 and it is a great match as far as power goes. The interesting thing was hitching it 4" LEFT of center on the drawbar (wheels set at 48" for row cropping everything we plant)
I knew it could do it! I noticed that the drawbar on the plow needs adjusting if you're going to run the A . It's set up for the H ,and the H is more suited for the #8 so leave it alone. If only you can find a two twelve bottom for the A ,you'd be set. 🧨

Can you provide a video on how to hook that onto a drawbar? What’s required, and how to operate? (You previously provided to me some great guidance on where to find a belly mower. Did you get that beard at the auction ?? Can I ask what you gave for it??? I came to see the A. I never saw one. Before. It really sounds good. Stout. move tongue over to your left a little in the draw bar. The furrow wheel needs to move left about 4 inches. Front plow not taking a full bite.
Good reminder for everyone to be careful. My wife lost a friend of hers a number of years ago. He was pulling a disk behind a tractor and it bounced him off the seat and onto the implement.
I recently bought a Farmall A. I checked the compression cold and they all had 75/80 psi except 1 had only 50 psi. Wondering what kind of psi I should have? Thought this would be the place to find out. Thanks in advance for the help.
A lot of the parts on that plow look exactly like my Dad’s old Massey Harris plow he bought in the early 50’s. Wonder what is the story on that. Did IH make plows for Massey Harris, or did Massey Harris make plows for I H, or did a few independent companies make parts for both ? Anyone know?

Try setting your coulters further outboard. I started at the recommended 1/2 inch but didn't get good results. They ended up close to an inch before I got good trash clearance and good furrow walls.
Add some rear wheel weight and you'd be golden. Had 2 140's (sold 'em) and what surprised me was the high fuel consumption. Suckers liked the go juice.
I had to bring out one of my old standbys today and out it to work since i am down a machine and no idea when it will get back up and running making the old 1086 sing lol
They always looked odd to me how the clutch and brakes were on the same side , I saw a few of them back in the day but mostly saw the H and M and they were always tricycle front ends .I wonder if horsepower comparison with newer tractors VS old is accurate, in as much is a new 60 Hp tractor really 50% more powerful than an old 40 HP tractor.
