One thing that I cannot stand, is people being deceitful and ripping people off. I do not make a lot of money, and every dollar I spend should be spent in the right way with honesty behind it. Uberfish Right?!? "I thought I was making a healthier choice!" If you want to make a "healthier choice" cook at home! Lol! If you don't want to cook at home, than ingesting processed, less healthy foods is going to be that result. There is absolutely nothing wrong with "splurging" once in a while, or having a "lazy day", or even being too busy to stop at home long enough to cook and eat *ONCE IN A WHILE.* Doing this *ONCE IN A WHILE* isn't going to hurt you. It's when you do this kind of thing on a daily basis that you are looking at some negative health results.

Also, people tend to remember the last thing in a list. Surprise surprise, they put the chef's chicken last instead of in the middle. You think any of them remember what A or B tasted like? This "test" had a clear agenda and ignored the whole "most are 100% chicken and the rest use safe additives" stuff. Not to mention the fact that she speaks to everyone like they're children.

I worked at Subway for over a year in high school. My manager allowed us to have one 6" sandwich for free if we worked more than 4 hours in one shift. I ate nearly everything on the menu, and even made my own creations. The one item I refused to touch was the chicken. The "oven roasted chicken" patties/strips came in a big clear bag that we stored in the freezer, put in the microwave to thaw, and then stored in a hotwell, where they stayed until someone bought them or we closed (usually the latter). Then we would have to either refrigerate them until the next day, or throw them out if they were reheated from the previous day. Proper temperature monitoring had to be done throughout the day of course. The only thing I liked about the chicken was that it was the easiest meat to prepare on a sandwich, but if someone asked me what to get, I would never recommend it. Absolutely disgusting that it was allowed to be sold like that, and the health department approved everything. We had a perfect score at the location I worked. I haven't had a Subway sandwich in years because of my experience working there.

I worked at Subway in highschool too and remember loving the chicken strips. If I recall correctly they were in individual plastic baggies and we microwaved each baggie as it was requested. What I loved the most was the meatballs. I'd just throw a bunch into a cup and eat them like that. No idea if these items still exist, I cannot bring myself to go to Subway.

Most likely they use freeze dried eggs turned into a powder form. The military used powdered eggs already in WW2 and was a common complaint in the MASH TV series. It is a method to create a longer shelf life and also to make transport a lot easier. Powder batches are also easier to analyze in the lab and give it a grade. Many school lunches consist of grade C ingredients...

I worked at Subway for a period. Food is typically taken out of the package or prepared about a day before, depends on how busy it gets. When the container that they have on display is running out, they take the container that had previously been prepared, take the old one out, put whatever is still in it over the new one, and put the new one in. If they dumped the new container over the old one, that was a big mistake on the staff's part. Depending on the rest of the staff and your manager, doing stuff like that can also get you in trouble.

@techguy404
@techguy404 6 лет назад
For someone thats worked at Subway.. The chicken isn't even real chicken? I can peel it apart when its thawed or cooked (more likely heated) and it doesn't come apart like real chicken. Everything is artificial. The chicken strips at Subway are literally just like the oven roasted chicken. Just chopped smaller. It's called marketing. That's how they get business. The grill marks are just to make you think it's real and for appeal.

4:19 "Is it frozen or fresh?" It is 100% frozen. I worked at Wendy's. There's not a piece of chicken that goes through those places that isn't frozen, it's not economical to store or transport them without freezing it. Now their beef, that's refrigerated but not actually frozen. All of the chicken is completely frozen though. And I'm not saying that to rag on Wendys, honestly I love their chicken. (Those homestyle chicken are AMAZING if you bake them. Couldn't tell from frying them but they have a subtle lemon flavor.) Just don't like it when people lie. To be fair I don't think the register person thought about it, I mean it's not like the chicken sits there forever. There's really high turnover for product. So it might have been in the freezer a few days or a week at the store itself, which all things considered I have things in my freezer far longer than that and it's just fine XD

If they wanted to actually test this properly they should have had them all in separate rooms (or at very least had them save the chatter for the end so they didn't influence one another and a sheet to put notes on) giving the chicken in random order for _each_ person (put them on identical paper plates with the label on the underside so you know which is which).

As SOON as I started to watch this, I guessed Subway would be the worst. My reason for that is because Subway was caught in the past, selling their multigrain buns, which were in fact, white bread with maple food colouring! So they have a history of this sort of crap. I stopped eating there when I learned that. Put it all together and Subway is one crooked business! I would have liked to hear the results for McDonalds, as my wife and I love their chicken. I am happy about Wendy's as my wife and I eat there. But, we rarely eat out, so honestly, it isn't as big an issue for us. We tend to make our own food at home, and I am glad we do now.
@ardalla535
@ardalla535 6 лет назад
Their multigrain bread WAS multigrain. The maple food additive, as you say, was just added for color. Subway multigrain braid is vastly different than their white bread. It actually has multiple grains in it. Why spread a bunch of lies that are easily disproven by reading Subway's ingredient list?

I worked at subway for over a year, and let me tell you, it is NOT healthy like they say it is. Sure, it might be a bit better than a big mac, but definitely wouldn't recommend eating it on the regular. People often think the flat bread is the healthiest, but trust me, it's not. If you want to go to subway, I recommend sticking to wheat bread and the veggies. The vegetables are the only things there that actually are fresh. All the meat is processed and packed with sodium. I enjoyed the veggie patty as well, although it also has a lot of sodium in it.

It is easier said than done though. When you have kids and a full-time job it's hard to care for the kids in the morning, work all day, go back to caring for the kids and make a big meal, clean up a big meal, take care of the kids some more, then drop and do it again the next day. Cooking often takes away the little time you have to relax, or be with your kids. Whereas I can buy Wendy's and be done with the entire transaction AND food in less than 5 minutes, with no clean up. I'm not saying it's right, I'm really trying to do exactly this, but I get why people try to ignore how bad it is just to not cook. It is 1,000% more effort, time and money to cook your own food. It's hard..

LOL the lawsuit against CBC was not about the 50% chicken but to dispute the other 50% soy. Therefore the filler is still a mystery.
@NeilRoy
@NeilRoy 6 лет назад
No matter what the filler was, it wasn't the chicken you paid for. And Subway was also caught using white bread with food colouring and calling them Multigrain buns in the past, so I wouldn't trust anything they sell.

Phosphate is a molecule, it doesn't occur, it's found in all life. Phosphate is the backbone of DNA, phosphate is the major energy currency (NTPs).

The additives are mostly potential allergens! I see both cornstarch and yeast extract in the list: I'm allergic to corn and yeast and I didn't even realize the chicken was as off limits as the bun. Not to mention the soy, which is one of the 8 most common allergens!

"Fast Food" means don't trust that it's all natural food. Natural food restaurant's that just cook the food as is, without messing with it is the best bet .
@2Fast4Mellow
@2Fast4Mellow 3 года назад
True, but it does come with a hefty price tag. Artisan street food trucks are another option. Most are locals that are creating a handful of dishes with ingredients they usually buy daily at wholesale supermarkets. On the other hand, it is not so bad if you visit a fast food restaurant every now and then (let's say 3 or 4 times a year). I know McDonald's hamburgers are not 100% beef, but my kids love their happy meals and have real fresh food on weekdays. Saturday is our guilty pleasure day (fast food or pizza) and on sunday we pick-up a takeout order from a restaurant.

As someone working in the food industry 25 plus years, I've rarely seen full muscle used- it's not cost effective; textured soy is used as a filler to keep cost down which is an issue for those allergic to soy..in addition, phosphates are used to plump up to add weight..if in doubt always expect to pay substantially more for real chicken
