Our first ground up build (Gasser) drag car has been an interesting experience. We’ve spent a lot of time wheeling so many different cars, but we’ve never paid much attention to drag racing. This growing segment in RC really caught our interest and so we set off to build our own car based off the a Traxxas Blasphemi build we found on the Traxxas website. The base of the build is a Traxxas Slash and it’s become a popular platform for many projects. This build has taken us a while and we encountered many setbacks when trying to run it. Mostly weather and conflicting filming schedules. But were were able to get some action in right at the start of winter. Not the most optimal time for a drag run, but we did get to run it. So what were the results of our Gasser style project? Did this car go fast? What did we learn from our experience? Should you build one? It’s all in the video.

it looked super cool until that first crash 8-(....need to cut the back window out also.. so air can flow up and out too escape through the top side of body..so much forced air coming into that body with the front set up, it cant all escape through the back tail..@@STEVOD313

@NikkiNexo777
@NikkiNexo777 5 лет назад
@@necromantier I get that it's a Gasser, but there comes a point because of the parachute effect you may want to sacrifice looks for function. This would quickly lose its Joy if you had to take the Walk of Shame every other pass that you drove it because it flipped on its lid.

Really fitting that you went with the 55 body, as the chassis sits kinda tall so what you have there is a really killer looking Gasser build........its perfect as a Gasser. great build videos leading up to this one. i admit i cringed at the sound of lexan crying out in pain.....lol.

-Lower and stiffen the shocks(add shock limiters in the shock bodies and install stiffer springs) -Trash the body you chose and get one that won’t parachute. -get a longer, lower wheelie bar -spray grape soda on the rear (and the front) tires -get rid of the stock front bumper -put a bit of blue locktite on the stub axle treads -move your electronics farther forward -install a smaller spur and larger pinion -and much, much, much more I won’t list.

Great paint job..as much as I like the vintage look...I tend to shy from those big boxy bodies. They tend to pocket too much air unless you thru vent them. Last body I did for my 22s was a 63 Falcon. It's been vented and works pretty good. My next will be the 69 Firebird..nice and aerodynamicly sleek

Awesome build. I turned a extended chassis rustler into a 1/8 street car. Had parachuting issues. Took lots of work to get it right. 550 can, MMAX PRO, 4S, MIP driveshafts, and X01 front bumper added. It’s a fun car now though. Chase my buddies X01 around. Only bad part is the damage is nasty when you get going at high speeds. 😆

Great project, a credit to you - Seems that so many Slash drag racers have a tendency to 'lift off' at higher speeds yet I fail to see owner's attempting to seal the body of open it up to reduce the upward force. I have no experience with rc drag racers yet I'm convinced that it'd run far better without the body on, or at the very least with the rear end cut out along with the rear window. They're like little parachutes at 50mph

RCDriver: I have a 2WD slash that I have done the same thing with. I took a front bumper and flipped it upside down to give it a front spoiler lowered my shocks and lowered the body and with the slash body it would still lift up like a parachute, so I ended up cutting vents in the body and I still couldn't keep it on the ground. I ended up buying a rustler body and it stays on the ground now but I can't seem to get it to go past half throttle (65mph) without it whipping out. I'm not asking for help, I am telling you all this to let you know you are not the only one out there who has issues. If I were you I would get a trashed body and work out all your bugs before trying to put a beautiful body on it again. There is a lot of good advice on this page, I would try some of that stuff out too. Oh yeah i also locked my diff so I would have a full possy rear end. Good luck.

Me and my buddy were trying to top out a rustler. We had wheelie issues at above 50 mph. So we filled a 2ltr bottle full of pennies and taped it to the front. It would drag the front until you got into the throttle. We got 128mph out of it and a court case in lenawee county michigan.

You need some stiff linear rate springs on the rear. The soft stage of those progressive rate springs are designed to give the original Slash a "scale" roll & pitch.
@camkels6396

That's exactly what I did(after looking at my on-road vehicle's springs and realizing how stiff they are) and now it's very hard to roll the vehicle.

Hi, I followed your traxxas slash drag car build and was great I love you car, I thought it was so good that I built my own following your instructions, I also used the parts from the part numbers you provide, the only problem I have is it doesn't matter what body I put on it the body rubs on the tyres I have the Goodyear eagle the same as you, I would father get the body lower and not look like a gasser, can you suggest some wheels n tyres I could use that fit inside the body.
@zoomzoomtoys131
@zoomzoomtoys131 5 лет назад
You really need to balance your tires, those rear tires had some severe wobble. Other than being unstable at higher speeds, you'll mess up the drive train, axles, bearings etc. Also, use the Castle link to adjust your throttle curve. As other's have already suggested slam the car down along with that parachute body.

Getting too much air underneath the car and getting lift. I make ' Selead Adjustable underplates' for slash drag builds for just this reason. Get a front splitter, some weight up front and maybe even a rear diffuser. That will help a lot.

Add some weight up front and drill some holes in the rear window too and that body might just work. Even with the back cut out there is still some air going up into the roof area and creating lift because of the gasser style way the body is on there. Real gassers back in the day did that too. I've got pics of quite a few where they swiss cheesed the rear to try and get all the air to flow through instead of getting trapped.

Great build. I love the gasser look but it doesn't help when up to speed. If you want to get serious about the sport then drop the body all the way down and put some short front shocks or limit the stock ones. STRC just came out with a bolt on wheelie bar for the 2wd Slash. And finally, top speed only counts at 132 feet. Speed runs and drag racing are two very different animals.
