I love the format of explaining this, oils are magical. Oils have much more to give than simply an "oil wash" - oils allow the easiest blends. Im on track by the end of January to finish my 9k all NMM necron force.

First video of yours I've watched, and you've earned yourself a new subscriber. Great stuff. If you wanted to spend even longer on it, then perhaps glazing a few other colours into the panel lines could look good? Like a yellow when you go into the darker bits?

Side note, I love the Falcon/Wave Serpent chassis. Reason why I play Eldar. I play Yme Loc so the grey and orange is... Hard. Especially with highlighting these curves. Imperial players have it easy with their tanks. I wanna tint the cockpits though, glad you hinted at the Tamiya paint. Was looking for Humbrol and can't really get it Edge highlights on these panels really sucks due to shallow edges. Don't get me started on sub assemblies. Most Eldar vehicles need to be painted in sub assemblies which makes gluing difficult.

Is panel lining possible with metallics? Because I've been thinking about having a Black and Gold scheme, and having the gold be the lining feels like it would be really cool. Would there be any additional problem I'd have to deal with to do so?
@GRGMiniatures
@GRGMiniatures 2 года назад
You can get metallic oil paints that I’m sure would work just like this (tho I haven’t used them myself). The only thing I’d watch out for is the mica particles. They’re probably a lot harder to clean away completely, so you’d have to be a little more careful when adding the paint.

Perhaps obvious on reflection, why didnt you paint the weapons using your oil titanium white? Oils have very high opacity...
@GRGMiniatures
@GRGMiniatures 2 года назад
My experience is that when I thin oils to a consistency that doesn’t leave obvious texture, they aren’t significantly more opaque than acrylics of a similar consistency. That’s why most ‘all oil’ painting techniques still rely on a rough acrylic under-painting. That said, everyone’s milage varies, and it’s definitely something I’ll try next time I forget to leave my weapons seperate!
@detectivepup3083

Kinda intimidated by the new technique - never used oils before, just acrylics - but I feel like it'd be great for tau vehicles, so I might give it a go!

hello i would like to try your tutorial, i just have the problem that my oil paint just doesn't "liquefy". i also have winsor oil paint and i can soak it in thinner it stays together and just gets very soft and not as runny as in your video. what am i doing wrong?
@GRGMiniatures
@GRGMiniatures 6 месяцев назад
Hi there! What thinner are you using? It should be 'white spirit' or 'mineral spirit' (it can go by a few different names depending on your country -- if in doubt, go to an art store and look for oil paint thinner!). You will need to thoroughly mix the paint in to this, not just wait for it to disperse.
